Methylene blue adsorption from aqueous solution by dehydrated peanut hull   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Dyes are colour organic compounds which can colorize the other substances. These substances usually presents in the effluent water of many industries, such as textiles, leather, paper, printing and cosmetics. To observe the potential feasibility of removing colour, peanut hull as an agricultural by-product was dehydrated with sulphuric acid (DPH) and used for adsorption of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. The effects of various parameters such as initial methylene blue concentrations, temperatures and particle sizes were examined and optimal experimental conditions were determined. Adsorption data were well described by the Langmuir model, although they could be modelled by the Freundlich model as well. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The mass transfer model as intraparticle diffusion was applied to the experimental data to examine the mechanisms of rate controlling step. It was found that at the higher initial MB concentration, intraparticle diffusion is becoming significant controlling step. The thermodynamic constants of the adsorption process were also evaluated by using the Langmuir constants related to the equilibrium of adsorption at different temperatures. The results in this study indicated that dehydrated peanut hull was a good adsorbent for removing methylene blue.  相似文献

Purpose: This study evaluated and compared the effect of different ceramic primers on the shear bond strength of RMGIC to zirconia with and without air-particle abrasion. Material and Methods: 120 zirconia square specimens (5 mm × 5 mm × 2 mm) were fabricated. Half of the specimens were air-particle abraded (A) and the other half were left untreated (NA). Both groups were further divided into six subgroups (n = 10). Composite cylinders (2.9 mm × 3.0 mm) were fabricated and bonded to the zirconia samples with RMGIC (RelyX Plus) after different priming methods: no ceramic primer (group NS); Z-Prime (group ZP); Clearfil ceramic primer (group CP); cleaned with Ivoclean then Monobond plus (IV/MS); Monobond plus (group MS); and Rely X ceramic primer (group RX). Specimens were rinsed, stored in distilled water, and thermocycled (TC) for 10,000 cycles between 5 and 60 °C with a dwell time of 15s. Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and the Tukey–Kramer method test (a = .05). Results: air-particle abrasion significantly affected bond strength of RMGIC to zirconia regardless of the primer used (p < 0.001 for all primers and the control). After TC, A-ZP (11.1 ± 0.6 MPa), A-CP (11.9 ± 0.6 MPa), and A-MS (11.9 ± 0.5 MPa) revealed the highest shear bond strength values, while NA-NS (2.9 ± 0.3 MPa) and NA-RX (4.7 ± 0.5 MPa) had the lowest. Failure modes were primarily adhesive. Conclusion: air-particle abrasion with aluminum oxide and application of MDP-based ceramic primers provide the highest bond strength of RMGIC to zirconia.  相似文献

Angiogenesis is a critical cellular process toward establishing a functional circulatory system capable of delivering oxygen and nutrients to the tissue in demand. In vitro angiogenesis assays represent an important tool for elucidating the biology of blood vessel formation and for drug discovery applications. Herein, we developed a novel, high content 2D angiogenesis assay that captures endothelial morphogenesis’s cellular processes, including lumen formation. In this assay, endothelial cells form luminized vascular-like structures in 48 h. The assay was validated for its specificity and performance. Using the optimized assay, we conducted a phenotypic screen of a library containing 150 FDA-approved cardiovascular drugs to identify modulators of lumen formation. The screening resulted in several L-type calcium channel blockers being able to expand the lumen space compared to controls. Among these blockers, Lacidipine was selected for follow-up studies. We found that the endothelial cells treated with Lacidipine showed enhanced activity of caspase-3 in the luminal space. Pharmacological inhibition of caspase activity abolished the Lacidipine-enhancing effect on lumen formation, suggesting the involvement of apoptosis. Using a Ca2+ biosensor, we found that Lacipidine reduces the intracellular Ca2+ oscillations amplitude in the endothelial cells at the early stage, whereas Lacidipine blocks these Ca2+ oscillations completely at the late stage. The inhibition of MLCK exhibits a phenotype of lumen expansion similar to that of Lacidipine. In conclusion, this study describes a novel high-throughput phenotypic assay to study angiogenesis. Our findings suggest that calcium signalling plays an essential role during lumen morphogenesis. L-type Ca2+ channel blockers could be used for more efficient angiogenesis-mediated therapies.  相似文献

We report the detailed characteristics of long-wavelength infrared InP-In/sub 0.53/Ga/sub 0.47/As quantum-well infrared photodetectors (QWIPs) and 640/spl times/512 focal plane array (FPA) grown by molecular beam epitaxy. For reliable assessment of the detector performance, characterization was performed on test detectors of the same size and structure with the FPA pixels. Al/sub 0.27/Ga/sub 0.73/As-GaAs QWIPs with similar spectral response (/spl lambda//sub p/=/spl sim/7.8 /spl mu/m) were also fabricated and characterized for comparison. InP-InGaAs QWIPs (20-period) yielded quantum efficiency-gain product as high as 0.46 under -3-V bias with a 77-K peak detectivity above 1/spl times/10/sup 10/ cm/spl middot/Hz/sup 1/2//W. At 70 K, the detector performance is background limited with f/2 aperture up to /spl sim/ 3-V bias where the peak responsivity (2.9 A/W) is an order of magnitude higher than that of the AlGaAs-GaAs QWIP. The results show that impact ionization in similar InP-InGaAs QWIPs does not start until the average electric-field reaches /spl sim/25 kV/cm, and the detectivity remains high under moderately large bias, which yields high responsivity due to large photoconductive gain. The InP-InGaAs QWIP FPA offers reasonably low noise equivalent temperature difference (NETD) even with very short integration times (/spl tau/).70 K NETD values of the FPA with f/1.5 optics are 36 and 64 mK under bias voltages of -0.5 V (/spl tau/=11 ms) and -2 V (/spl tau/=650 /spl mu/s), respectively. The results clearly show the potential of InP-InGaAs QWIPs for thermal imaging applications requiring high responsivity and short integration times.  相似文献

Gold or platinum films deposited on a Nafion membrane were used to measure surface conductance of the membrane. Acidic gases such as HCI or SO2, introduced as mixtures with an inert gas, were found to affect the conductance of the membrane surface facing this mixture while the other side of the membrane was constantly supplied with a moist inert gas. The relative conductance (G/Go) is most affected within the 0-0.5 and 3-4.5 vol % ranges both for HCI and SO2. The effect is higher for the Pt-deposited than it is for the gold-deposited membrane: for an HCI concentration of 1.5 vol %, G/Go is 5 for Pt deposited on Nafion while it is only 1.3 for gold deposited on Nafion. This is attributed to different geometries and porosity of the Pt and Au electrodes. No conductance response was observed for CO2 which yields with water a much weaker acid than those formed by HCI and SO2.  相似文献

Breast enlargement with bloody discharge is very rare in childhood. We report a two year-old boy with breast enlargement and bloody discharge. Because of persistent bloody discharge, subcutaneous mastectomy was performed. The specimen showed histologic changes identical to those seen in adult mammary duct ectasia. We suggested that the infant's own endocrine system is responsible for breast enlargement and mammary duct ectasia, possibly occurring as a result of a mechanism similar to that in adults.  相似文献

The changes occuring in smooth muscle cells during the development of atherosclerosis in rabbits fed 2% cholesterol and the effect of vitamin E treatment were investigated. Ex-vivo smooth muscle cells obtained from the aorta of cholesterol-fed rabbits exhibited a 2-fold increase of protein kinase C expression and activity. The cholesterol induced changes in protein kinase C were equally present in the membrane bound and cytosolic fraction of the enzyme. The amount of a control protein alpha-actin was not affected in smooth muscle cell by the high cholesterol diet treatment, indicating that protein kinase C increase was specific. The increase of protein kinase C expression and activity was not significantly affected by vitamin E treatment although a constant trend was noted. The data are discussed in the light of previous smooth muscle cell in vitro experiments.  相似文献

A series of (+/-) 3-[(3-substituted-5-methyl-4-thiazolidinon-2- ylidene)hydrazono]-1H-2-indolinones (2a-h) and 3-[(2-thioxo-3-substituted-4,5-imidazolidinedion-1-yl)imino] -1H-2-indolinones (3a-g) were synthesized by the cyclization of 3-(4-substituted-thiosemicarbazono)-1H-2-indolinones (1a-h) with ethyl 2-bromopropionate in anydrous ethanolic medium and oxalyl chloride in anhydrous diethyl ether, respectively. The structures of 2 and 3 were confirmed by analytical and spectral data (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and EIMS). The configuration of 3 was assigned on the basis of 1H NMR and 13C NMR data. 2c, 2d, 2g, 2h, and 3a-g were evaluated for anticonvulsant activity against maximal electroshock (MES) and subcutaneous pentylenetetrazol (ScMet) induced seizures. Among the compounds tested, only 2d exhibited some activity in anticonvulsant identification (Phase I) trials in mice. 2a, 2b, 2d, 2g, 2h, and 3a-g were additionally tested for potentiating effects on pentobarbital induced hypnosis in mice. All of the test compounds increased the sleeping time of pentobarbital significantly (p < 0.05) and the most potent compound was found to be 3a.  相似文献

In the context of a longitudinal study of cognitive and personality development, I examined various correlates of spatial visualization ability, as measured by Vandenberg's Mental Rotations Test, in order to elaborate the meaning of the known sex difference on this factor. Spatial visualization ability in females was correlated with verbal IQ and various aspects of personality. These relations were absent in males. Within each sex, measures of cognitive abilities obtained in childhood predicted spatial visualization ability at age 18. Hypotheses designed to explain the sex difference in spatial visualization must be sensitive to the different implications of this factor in males and females.
