Isothermal conduction calorimetry has been used to monitor the early hydration of Portland–blastfurnace slag (BFS)-blended cements. Portland:BFS composite cements with ordinary Portland cement replacements from 0 to 90 wt% were studied at curing temperatures from 12° to 90°C. Peak II, principally associated with alite (Ca3SiO5) hydration, was accelerated with increasing temperature for all blends. Peak S, associated with BFS hydration, was particularly noticeable at 40° and 60°C. At higher curing temperatures, peak S merged with peak II, indicating thermal activation of BFS. Novel plots of total heat output against percentage replacement show that BFS contributes to the heat of hydration, even at temperatures below its thermal activation.  相似文献

Advances made in genetic testing and tools applied to pharmacogenetics are increasingly being used to inform clinicians in fields such as oncology, hematology, diabetes (endocrinology), cardiology and expanding into psychiatry by examining the influences of genetics on drug efficacy and metabolism. We present a clinical case example of an adolescent male with anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder who did not tolerate numerous medications and dosages over several years in attempts to manage his symptoms. Pharmacogenetics testing was performed and DNA results on this individual elucidated the potential pitfalls in medication use because of specific pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic differences specifically involving polymorphisms of genes in the cytochrome p450 enzyme system. Future studies and reports are needed to further illustrate and determine the type of individualized medicine approach required to treat individuals based on their specific gene patterns. Growing evidence supports this biological approach for standard of care in psychiatry.  相似文献

Bacteriophages as accessory genetic elements play a crucial role in the dissemination of genes and the promotion of genetic diversity within bacterial populations. Such horizontal transfer of DNA is critical in the emergence of new pathogenic organisms, through the dissemination of genes encoding virulence factors such as toxins, adhesins and agressins. Phages can transfer genes that are not necessary for bacteriophage persistence and are generally recognised by their ability to convert their host bacteria to new phenotypes. This phenomenon is known as phage conversion. If such converting genes encode for virulence factors, the consequences of phage infection may include increased virulence of the host bacteria, and the conversion of a non‐pathogenic strain to a potentially dangerous pathogen. A number of virulence factors in bacteria causing diseases in plants, animals and humans are encoded by converting phages, the vast majority of which are temperate as opposed to lytic in nature. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The degree of hydration of the four major anhydrous cement phases in three U.K. portland cement mortars has been observed during the period of water storage at room temperature after an initial short-term heat cure. Such a heat cure at 85° or 100°C for 12 h generally accelerated the initial hydration of the four major anhydrous minerals in portland cement. Subsequent retardation of the degree of hydration of the alite, tricalcium aluminate, and ferrite phases was observed when these heat-cured mortars were stored at ambient temperature. General similarity but some differences in hydration behavior were observed between the three cements. The hydration of belite in the heat-cured mortars during storage at room temperature produced porous inner products that favored deposition of ettringite and reduced the risk of expansive ettringite formation. The substantial retardation in hydration of the aluminate-bearing phases, especially the ferrite phase, during the storage at room temperature raised the overall SO3/Al2O3 ratio of the cement hydrates formed, bringing about a potential for ettringite formation and hence the risk of expansion through delayed ettringite formation.  相似文献

A newly developed whisker K_2O 6TiO_2 reinforeed 6061Al composite was prepared bysqueeze casting process.The flexural strength of the composite is 518MPa,and deereasesto 490MPa after T6 treatment.The hardness of the composite also shows the similarchange while T6 treating.The results of HRTEMobservation may explaine this property.change.It was considered that there is a continuous TiO layer at the whisker-matrix inter-face,which is easily to react with the segregated Mg and to form MgTi_2O_4,MgAl_2O_4.Thethickening of TiO layer after T6 treatment is the main reason resulting is strength degra-dation of composite.  相似文献

Peak demand forecasts obtained from six different univariate forecasting methods, under a range of conditions, were used to drive a capacity acquisition model of a large electrical supply system; and the resulting physical and financial performance of the model was observed for each set of forecasts. The results obtained are discussed in the context of their implications for the choice of load forecasting method used in capacity acquisition planning by a power supply undertaking.  相似文献

With ever-increasing importance, plant maintenance is no more regarded as second line or non-productive activity. It is about time maintenance received due attention from various business improvement initiatives such as total quality management or business process reengineering (BPR). This paper builds on previous work by the authors that examines the role of performance measurement systems (PMS) in maintenance, with particular reference to developing a new PMS framework using the quality function deployment (QFD) technique. In the light of the fact that there is only limited evidence of BPR applications pertinent to equipment maintenance, this paper explores the use of the PMS framework to enable and guide sound BPR endeavors in maintenance. Condensed literature on BPR is presented followed by an outline of the PMS framework. The benefits of utilizing such a framework are examined with reference to BPR in maintenance. The practical implications of the findings are discussed based on a case study conducted in a local company.  相似文献

This paper discusses a process hazard management study of a fuel gas conditioning facility based on stateof-the-art fault tree analysis techniques. This facility lowers the water and hydrocarbon dewpoints of a high pressure fuel gas exposed to frigid temperatures during distribution. Using hazards checklists and guidelines as well as internal reviews, various process hazards were identified for this facility. Computerized fault tree analysis techniques were used to identify the failure sequences which could lead to process hazards, and analysts used these results to evaluate the impact of specific hazards upon process safety. Through recommendations presented in the study, the facility owner gained an increased awareness of potential problems and made modifications to reduce the possibility of a hazardous condition and subsequent catastrophic failure.  相似文献
