Neonatal pneumopericardium

The clinical data and radiographs of 50 neonates with pneumopericardium (PPC) were reviewed. Most of these neonates were premature, low-birth-weight infants with hyaline membrane disease who required ventilatory assistance. The presence of other extraventilatory air prior to (or concurrent with) PPC, the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation with intracardiac drug administration, and improper endotracheal tube placement were contributory factors. However, it was not possible to determine why some infants progressed to PPC and others, with similar disease and predisposing conditions, did not. The primary radiographic sign of PPC is the "halo" sign, which was apparent in 96% of these cases. When this sign was not present, other signs, such as the "pericardial line" sign, were helpful. The overall mortality was 72%. Thirty-three per cent of the fatalities were related to PPC; however, the long-term prognosis is probably more closely related to the severity of underlying lung disease or other complications than to PPC.     

Immunologic aspects of malignancy. II. Host immunocompetence and relationship to the clinical stage in patients with prostatic cancer

As knowledge of the stage and grade of tumour are essential to the selection of the appropriate therapeutic modality and subsequent management of the patient, the patient's immunological competence is equally significant. In the present communication a broad spectrum of cellular and humorally-mediated parameters of immunologic responsiveness reflecting more or less general immunocompetence rather than tumour-specific immunity were evaluated in 28 patients with the prostatic cancer. The immunocompetence of these patient's was then "immunostaged" independently without prior knowledge of their clinical stage, and the correlation and significance of these determinations evaluated. In this present preliminary report, a statistically significant correlation (P less than 0.05) was observed between the patients' "immunostage" and clinical stage.     

PVC/NBR热塑性弹性体加工流变性能研究

采用反应挤出动态硫化法制备了聚氯乙烯／丁腈橡胶(PVC／NBR)热塑性弹性体，用锥板流变仪、毛细管流变仪和转矩流变仪研究了动态硫化的PVC／NBR热塑性弹性体的流交性能和塑化性能。实验结果表明，动态硫化的PVC／NBR热塑性弹性体的熔体属于剪切稀化的假塑性流体，具有良好的返炼性能，综合性能超过国外同类产品。     

Synthesis of 3′,4′‐disubstituted terthiophenes. Characterization and electropolymerization. I. 3′,4′‐dibromo‐2,2′:5′,2″‐terthiophene in photovoltaic display

Recent studies on conducting polymers have demonstrated that polymers of 3‐substituted thiophene produce very stable compounds. Although this kind of substitution improves the regularity, structural defects still exist. To overcome this drawback, the polymerization of 3,4‐disubstituted thiophene is proposed as a convenient way of synthesizing regular, highly conjugated conductive polymers. Our interest is thus focused on the synthesis of tetra‐substituted thiophene derivatives, their polymerization, electrochemical properties, spectral characteristics, oxidizing potential, and the feasibility of photocells development. In this article, we report the synthesis and characterization of 3′,4′‐dibromo‐2,2′:5′,2″‐terthiophene which, as such or modified, may be a good starting product for obtaining new monomers of 3′,4′‐disubstituted terthiophenes, that would allow the effect of the substituents on the properties of the respective polymers to be studied. In addition, the monomer was electropolymerized and the resulting deposit was electrochemically and morphologically characterized. Two conclusions were drawn: first, more uniform and homogeneous layers than those of polythiophene are obtained; second, the thin layers of the polymer, electron acceptors, absorb in the visible. Finally, photocells were assembled to investigate their photovoltaic effect. Although the so prepared solar cells showed some photovoltaic effect, the yield was low.© 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Morphine-induced supersensitivity to acetylcholine in skeletal muscle and its mechanism of action

Studies conducted for over 20 years allowed the authors to accumulate a rich experience in the production and administration of an inactivated influenza vaccine applicable by nasal and oral route, prepared in the "Stefan S. Nicolau" Institute of Virology. Applied as a monovalent in a single dose of 1000 IU, the vaccine induced seroconversion of 70% of the vaccines and ensured a 2--4-fold decrease in influenza morbidity. Owing to these qualities the vaccine represents one of the most advantageous preparations used in influenza prophylaxis.     

聚羧酸系高效减水剂的研制

本文主要研究以甲基丙烯酸、丙烯酸和聚乙二醇单甲醚为主要原料的聚羧酸系减水剂的制备工艺,侧重进行了反应物配比、引发剂用量、反应时间等影响因素的研究,采用红外光谱法对产物进行了表征和分析。并对该减水剂进行了水泥净浆流动度等性能的测试,最终得到了适用于高性能混凝土的减水剂。

“照付不议”合同在法律上有着自身丰富的法律内涵，作为国际能源销售的通行惯例，如何平衡双方的合同权利义务至关重要。随着时间的发展，“照付不议”合同呈现出灵活性、短期性的特点，强调对市场变化的回应。“照付不议”在实践中存在着双方权利、义务失衡，气价定价模糊，计量标准难以确定’等诸多难题，如何对上述问题进行制度完善值得深入研究。     

The preparation of poly(methylene esters)

Conditions are described which allow the synthesis of poly(methylene terephthalate) from the reaction of methylene bromide with caesium terephthalate and though application of the procedure to prepare polymers from aliphatic dicarboxylic acids was unsuccessful, such polymers were synthesized from the analogous reaction with bromochloromethane.     

Vaginal electrostimulation for the treatment of genuine stress incontinence

Carcinoma of the upper urinary tract is a relatively rare neoplasm, and few studies have dealt with clinicopathological findings and prognosis in a large number of cases. The purpose of our investigation was to look for a possible relation between E-cadherin (E-CD) immunoreactivity and clinicopathologic findings or clinical outcome in transitional-cell carcinoma of the upper urinary tract (TCC-UUT). To this end, we investigated E-CD immunoreactivity in 154 cases of TCC-UUT. E-CD immunoreactivity was recognized as being of "normal" pattern in 29.2% of samples. The relationship between E-CD immunoreactivity and clinicopathologic findings was significant for stage, grade and pattern of growth. The 5-year disease-free rate for 147 cases and 5-year overall survival rate for 154 cases were 55.7% and 71.5%, respectively. A univariate analysis of survival revealed that stage, grade, pattern of growth and E-CD immunoreactivity all had a significant effect on disease-free and overall survival rates. In the final models of multivariate analysis, however, we found that, for disease-free survival and for overall survival, only stage was a factor for progression or prognosis. Detection of E-CD immunoreactivity appears to be of limited value in deciding the prognosis of TCC-UUT.
