Strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus were isolated from clinical, marine and freshwater fish of Calcutta, West Bengal, India. Drug and metal resistance characteristics were compared for differentiation of clinical and environmental strains. Eighteen out of the twenty environmental isolates were resistant to arsenate, unlike the clinical isolates which were all susceptible. All the thirty-five isolates of V. parahaemolyticus were resistant to ampicillin and streptomycin.  相似文献

Rats implanted bilaterally with cannulae in the CA1 region of the dorsal hippocampus or in the amygdala were trained in one-trial step-down inhibitory (passive) avoidance using a 0.4 mA footshock. At various times after training (0, 1.5, 3, 6 or 9 h for animals implanted in the hippocampus; 0 or 3 h for those implanted in the amygdala), they received infusions of 8-Br-cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) (1.25 micrograms/side), SKF38393 (7.5 micrograms/side), SCH23390 (0.5 microgram/side), norepinephrine ClH (0.3 microgram/side), timolol ClH (0.3 microgram/side), 8-HO-DPAT (2.5 micrograms/side), NAN-190 (2.5 micrograms/side), forskolin (0.5 microgram/side) or KT5720 (0.5 microgram/side). Rats were tested for retention 24 h after training. SKF38393 is an agonist and SCH23390 an antagonist at dopamine D1 receptors, timolol is a beta-adrenoceptor antagonist, 8-HO-DPAT is an agonist and NAN-190 an antagonist at 5HT1A receptors, forskolin enhances adenylyl cyclase, and KT5720 inhibits protein kinase A. When given into the hippocampus 0 h post-training, norepinephrine enhanced memory and KT5720 was amnestic. When given 1.5 h after training, all treatments were ineffective. When given 3 or 6 h post-training, 8-Br-cAMP, forskolin, SKF 38393, noradrenaline and NAN-190 caused memory facilitation, and KT5720, SCH23390, timolol and 8-HO-DPAT caused retrograde amnesia. At 9 h from training, all treatments were again ineffective. When given into the amygdala 0 or 3 h post-training all treatments were ineffective, except for noradrenaline at 0 h, which caused retrograde facilitation. The data agree with the suggestion that in the hippocampus, but not the amygdala, a cAMP/protein kinase A pathway is involved in memory consolidation at 3 and 6 h from training, and that this is regulated by D1, beta, and 5HT1A receptors. This correlates with a previous report of increased cAMP levels, protein kinase A activity and P-CREB levels at 3-6 h from training in rat hippocampus in this task. This may be taken to suggest that the hippocampus, but not the amygdala, is involved in the long-term storage of step-down inhibitory avoidance in the rat.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The technique of administration and the resulting volume and concentration of the dye delivered to the eye via dye-impregnated paper strips are not standardized or known. The purpose of this study was to use a standard technique for preparation of rose bengal dye from commercially available paper strips to determine the variability in concentration based upon soak time, and to determine the volume delivered by such a technique to a model eye. METHODS: Rose bengal filter paper strips were wetted for either 15, 30, or 45 s, and the resulting concentration of dye eluted was determined by spectrophotometry. With the same preparation technique and a 15-s soak time, the strip was applied to wetted filter paper, as a model for the moist surface of the eye. The volume of solution delivered was calculated by weight. RESULTS: Concentrations of rose bengal for the various soak times were: 15 s: 7.64 (+/- 1.11) by 10(-6) g/ml; 30 s: 9.70 (+/- 1.79) by 10(-6) g/ml; and 45 s: 10.27 (+/- 0.66) by 10(-6) g/ml. The volume delivered to the eye model with this technique was 17.43 microliters (+/- 3.09). CONCLUSIONS: The concentration of rose bengal dye delivered to the ocular surface by means of a wetted strip is relatively low and soak time/technique-dependent. This suggests a possibility that results in clinical studies with rose bengal strip application may be different than if controlled volume applications of commercially available 1% liquid rose bengal dye are used.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Preclinical studies in experimental animals suggest that preemptive analgesia may improve postoperative pain management. The beneficial effects of preemptive analgesia appear less remarkable clinically. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of pre- and post-incision administration of intrathecal bupivacaine and intrathecal morphine in a rat model for postoperative pain. METHODS: Rats with intrathecal catheters were anesthetized with halothane, and the surgical field was prepared. A saline vehicle or the test drug was administered 15 min before an incision was made in the plantar aspect of the hindpaw or after the incision was completed. After recovery, mechanical hyperalgesia to punctate and nonpunctate stimuli was measured. Rats were tested on the day of surgery for the first 5 h and each day for 6 days. RESULTS: In saline vehicle-treated rats, the median withdrawal threshold decreased from 522 mN to 54 mN or less, and the response frequency to pressure from application of the plastic disc increased from 0 +/- 0% to 96 +/- 12% or greater after incision. Hyperalgesia was persistent through 2 days after surgery and then gradually returned toward preincision values over the next 4 days. Pre- or postincision administration of either intrathecal morphine or intrathecal bupivacaine reduced hyperalgesia on the day of surgery; at all subsequent times, there were no differences between the saline vehicle groups and the drug treatment groups. There were never any significant differences between pre- and postincision treatments. CONCLUSIONS: Early reduction in pain behaviors either by pre- or postincision management had no impact on subsequent measures of hyperalgesia in this model. These results agree with a number of clinical studies and suggest that incisional pain may be initiated and maintained differently than pain in other models.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Volatile anesthetics are known to have varying effects on hepatic oxygen supply in vivo and have been shown to depress hepatic mitochondrial respiration and so energy charge in vitro. However, the effect of halothane, isoflurane and enflurane on hepatic adenine nucleotide status in vivo has not been evaluated. METHODS: Ninety male rats were exposed to 40% oxygen (n = 22) or 40% oxygen in equipotent (1 MAC) concentrations of halothane (1%) (n = 23), isoflurane (1.4%) (n = 22) or enflurane (2%) (n = 23) for 2 hours. All animals were then administered intraperitoneal pentobarbital and anesthesia continued and laparotomy was performed. A liver biopsy was taken for determination of hepatocellular adenosine-5-triphosphate (ATP), adenosine-5-diphosphate (ADP) and adenosine-5-monophosphate (AMP) and computation of energy charge (EC) from ?(ATP + 1/2ADP)+(ATP + ADP + AMP)? and total adenine nucleotides (TAN) from (ATP + ADP + AMP). After the biopsy the aorta was cannulated for blood sampling. RESULTS: Rats in each group were similar in weight, as well as acid base and blood gas status just after liver biopsy. Hepatic energy charge, ATP, ADP, AMP, and TAN levels were not different in animals receiving either halothane, isoflurane or enflurane when compared with those receiving only oxygen. CONCLUSION: One MAC of anesthesia for a period of 2 hours with the described volatile anesthetic agents did not affect adenine nucleotide status in vivo in rats.  相似文献

To compare the diagnostic value of spin-echo magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and transthoracic echocardiography in quantitative assessment of the extent of hypertrophy in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), we examined 52 consecutive patients with HCM. The Spirito-Maron and Wigle hypertrophy scores were calculated with wall thickness measurements obtained by both imaging modalities. MR imaging yielded complete assessment of anatomic features and allowed calculation of hypertrophy scores in 49 patients (94%). Adequate echocardiograms were obtained in 33 patients (63%) and correlated well with MR imaging for wall thickness measurements and for determination of the two hypertrophy scores (both r> 0.9). MR imaging provided additional information not available by echocardiography in 16 patients (31%). We conclude that the Spirito-Maron and Wigle hypertrophy scores correlated well between echocardiography and MR imaging. Because echocardiography was of insufficient quality for calculating adequate hypertrophy scores in 19 (37%) patients, MR imaging provided the most comprehensive diagnostic information in patients with HCM.  相似文献

A 64 x 64 mercury-cadmium-telluride focal-plane array detector attached to a Fourier transform infrared microscope was used to spectroscopically image 5 microm sections of canine alveolar bone tissue in the fingerprint region of the infrared spectrum. By ratioing the relative intensities of specific bands across the images, it is possible to obtain spatial distributions of the mineral-to-matrix ratio and mineral maturity as a function of distance from an osteon.  相似文献
