Both read-out light sources and ambient light sources can produce a marked effect on coloration of radiochromic film. Fluorescent, helium neon laser, light emitting diode (LED) and incandescent read-out light sources produce an equivalent dose coloration of 660 cGy h(-1), 4.3 cGy h(-1), 1.7 cGy h(-1) and 2.6 cGy h(-1) respectively. Direct sunlight, fluorescent light and incandescent ambient light produce an equivalent dose coloration of 30 cGy h(-1), 18 cGy h(-1) and 0 cGy h(-1) respectively. Continuously on, fluorescent light sources should not be used for film optical density evaluation and minimal exposure to any light source will increase the accuracy of results.  相似文献

Responses of bipolar cells, cone photoreceptors, and horizontal cells were recorded intracellularly in superfused eyecup preparations of the tiger salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum). Contrast flashes of positive and negative polarity were applied at the center of the receptive field while the entire retina was light adapted to a background field of 20 cd/m2. For small contrasts, many bipolar cells showed remarkably high contrast gain: up to 15-20% of the bipolar response was evoked by a contrast step of 1%. There was considerable variation from cell to cell but, on average, no striking differences in contrast gain were found between the depolarizing (Bd) and hyperpolarizing (Bh) bipolar cells. Quantitative comparisons of contrast/response measurements for cone photoreceptors and cone-driven bipolars suggest that the high contrast gain of bipolars is the consequence of a 5-10 x amplification of small signals across the cone-->bipolar synapse. Bipolar cells had a very restricted linear range of response and tended to saturate at stimulus levels that were within the linear range of the cone response. The contrast/response of horizontal cells was similar to that of cones and differed markedly from that of Bh cells. For steps of equal contrast, the latency of the Bh cells was approximately 20 ms shorter than that of the Bd cells regardless of the contrast magnitude. For both bipolar cells and cones, the effect of contrast polarity on latency seems largely due to the absolute value of the light step, delta L. In the large signal domain, properties of the contrast responses of bipolar cells varied appreciably, both within and between the Bd and Bh classes. Cells of either class could be positive- or negative-contrast dominant. These and additional results show that in the light-adapted retina, the bipolar population is functionally diverse and has the potential to provide a rich substrate for distributed encoding of visual images.  相似文献

The hippocampus is believed to be an important structure for learning tasks that require temporal processing of information. The trace classical conditioning paradigm requires temporal processing because the conditioned stimulus (CS) and the unconditioned stimulus (US) are temporally separated by an empty trace interval. The present study sought to determine whether the hippocampus was necessary for rats to perform a classical trace fear conditioning task in which each of 10 trials consisted of an auditory tone CS (1 5-s duration) followed by an empty 30-s trace interval and then a fear-producing floor-shock US (0.5-s duration). Several weeks prior to training, animals were anesthetized and given aspiration lesions of the neocortex (NEO; n = 6), hippocampus and overlying neocortex (HIPP; n = 7), or no lesions at all (control; n = 6). Approximately 24 h after trace conditioning, NEO and control animals showed a significant decrease in movement to a CS-alone presentation that was indicative of a conditioned fear response. Animals in the HIPP group did not show conditioned fear responses to the CS alone, nor did a pseudoconditioning group (n = 7) that was trained with unpaired CSs and USs. Furthermore, all groups except the HIPP group showed conditioned fear responses to the original context in which they received shock USs. One week later, HIPP, NEO, and control animals received delay fear-conditioning trials with no trace interval separating the CS and US. Six of seven HIPP animals could perform the delay version, but none could perform the trace version. This result suggests that the trace fear task is a reliable and useful model for examining the neural mechanisms of hippocampally dependent learning.  相似文献

String matching plays a central role in packet inspection applications such as intrusion detection, anti-virus, anti-spam and Web filtering. Since they are computation and memory intensive, software matching algorithms are insufficient to meet the high-speed performance. Thus, offloading packet inspection to a dedicated hardware seems inevitable. This paper presents a scalable automaton matching (SAM) coprocessor that uses Aho-Corasick (AC) algorithm with two parallel acceleration techniques, root-indexing and pre-hashing. The root-indexing can match multiple bytes in one single matching, and the pre-hashing can be used to avoid bitmap AC matching which is a cycle-consuming operation. In the platform-based SoC implementation of the Xilinx ML310 FPGA, the proposed hardware architecture can achieve almost 10.7 Gbps and support over 10,000 patterns for virus, which is the largest pattern set from among the existing works. On the average, the performance of SAM is 7.65 times faster than the original bitmap AC. Furthermore, SAM is feasible for either internal or external memory architecture. The internal memory architecture provides high performance, while the external memory architecture provides high scalability in term of the number of patterns.  相似文献

Sampling criteria for nonlinear systems with a band-pass input are developed in this paper. It is well known that nonlinear systems may produce an output signal with a larger bandwidth than that of their input signal. According to the Nyquist sampling theorem, the sampling rate needs to be at least twice the maximum frequency of the output signal; otherwise, the sampled output would be aliased. However, if the input is a bandpass signal, the spectrum of the output signal often occupies multiple frequency bands. In this case, it is possible, by using the bandpass sampling concept, to sample the output signal at a rate much lower than the Nyquist sampling frequency. In this paper, all conditions in which bandpass sampling can be achieved are derived for nonlinear systems up to the third order. Furthermore, for nonlinear systems higher than the third order, some conditions in which bandpass sampling can be guaranteed are derived. Trichloroethylene (TCE) decomposition over a MnOx/ gamma-Al2O3 catalyst in a fixed-bed reactor was conducted in this study. The MnOx/gamma-Al2O3 powders were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method with aqueous solution of manganese nitrate. The catalysts were characterized by DTA-TGA, XRD, porosity analysis, SEM, EDX, and XPS. The results show that the main distinct weight loss is found at the temperature around 373 and 873 K,the MnO peaks (2theta = 34.9 degrees and 40.5 degrees) are only observed crystal phase on the fresh catalyst, the SEM image of the MnOx-impregnated gamma-Al2O3 support is much different from the calcined catalyst, and the Mn element quantity on the catalyst surface is higher than that of the impregnated support. The products and reactants distributions from the oxidation of TCE over MnOx/gamma-Al2O3 were analyzed by GC. The results show that the TCE conversion starts from 5% at 443 K and rises to very high values in the 673-873 K ranges and that the CO2 yield also pushes to 99% at the same temperature ranges. HCl and Cl2 are the other main products with little halogenated VOC intermediates.  相似文献

A simple and versatile low-flow interface has been developed for interfacing capillary electrophoresis (CE) with electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry. This low-flow interface showed better sensitivity than a conventional sheath liquid interface, primarily attributed to a low dilution factor and a reduction in the sprayer orifice size. The interface was also found to be more tolerant to the presence of nonvolatile salts. Because of tolerance to the surfactant SDS, this interface can be used to couple micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) with ESI-MS. The performance of the interface in an MEKC-MS application, as demonstrated in the analysis of triazines, was significantly better than that obtained with a conventional sheath liquid interface. Moreover, this interface can be easily used for large-volume sample-stacking (LVSS) applications. Using a series of phenols as a test case, an approximate 500-fold enrichment was achieved by LVSS in conjunction with the low-flow CE/MS interface described.  相似文献

All mobile stations (STAs) in IEEE 802.11 infrastructure wireless local area networks (IWLAN) are coordinated by an access point (AP). Within the 2.4 GHz unlicensed industry, science, and medicine (ISM) band defined in the IEEE 802.11 2.4 GHz physical layer (PHY) specifications, three channels are available for concurrently transferring data packets at the coverage area of an AP. In most of small/medium enterprises or home environments, an AP with one selected channel is sufficient for covering whole service area, but this implies that the radio resources for the remaining two channels are wasted. In order to overcome the drawback, we propose a new and simple media access control (MAC) protocol, named wireless switch protocol (WSP), for increasing the throughput of IEEE 802.11 IWLAN network to support high quality multimedia traffic. This is achieved by allowing any pair of STAs in IWLAN to exchange data packets in one of other idle channels after their handshake with each other in the common channel controlled by AP. Simulation results show that the total network throughput of WSP depends on the time taken by channel switching, and on the ‘Intranet’ and ‘Internet’ traffic distribution, where the Intranet and Internet mean data transmission between STAs in IWLAN and between the STA and wired host, respectively. When all data packets are Intranet traffic and the traffic load is heavy, the ratio of Goodput for the proposed WSP to that of IEEE 802.11 standard approximates 400%. In the worse case of all Internet traffic, the proposed WSP still obtains the similar throughput as that of IEEE 802.11 standard.Jenhui Chen was born on October 12, 1971 in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China. Since Feb. 2002, he has become a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tamkang University. Dr. Sheu received the outstanding young researcher award by the IEEE Communication Society Asia Pacific Board in 2002.
