Two cases with acute renal failure after prolonged hypothermia are presented. Both patients were found in come, became rapidly uremic and required hemodilaysis treatment. Although the laboratory findings were typical of severe muscle damage, e.g. elevated levels of serum creatinine phosphokinase, serum lactic dehydrogenase and serum aldolase activities, visible "crush-injuries" were not found. Acute renal failure was characterized by extreme catabolism and severe metabolic acidosis. After 4 and 10 hemodialyses respectively, the patients became polyuric and finally were discharges with normal renal and muscle function. Hypotension with diminished renal perfusion and nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis due to prolonged hypothermia are regarded as the dominant pathogenetic factors in the acute renal failure.  相似文献

The present review has attempted to summarize the classic symptoms and signs of aortic valve stenosis, especially in an adult. It is emphasized that all the classic signs rarely are present and their absence may mislead an unwary clinician. The diagnostic help provided by noninvasive tests, including echocardiography and phonocardiography, has been emphasized. A need for cardiac catheterization and angiography in most patients prior to corrective surgery is stressed. The natural history of the disease without operative intervention is dim and a significant risk of sudden death exists. The current surgical approach with immediate and long-term results is summarized. Finally, attention has been drawn to the special clinical circumstances when the aortic valve stenosis provides a strinkingly different clinical picture. We cannot find a better way to end this review than by quoting a warning note given by Thomas Lewis in 1920: "It is the faint cry of an anguished and fast failing muscle, which, when it comes, all should strain to hear, for it is not long repeated. A few months, a few years at most, and the end comes."  相似文献

During the past 10 years, several technological trends have emerged that significantly and positively affected today's world. Two in particular are noteworthy: the apparently unbounded desire to network any and all devices and deployment of Microsoft's operating systems in everything from consumer PCs and business servers to embedded devices. We could well see the telecommunications boom; the rise of the Internet, and the rush to connect everything to it as one of humanity's milestones, not far removed from, that of the invention of the telephone or telegraph. Computer networking, over the Internet, particularly, has democratized the publishing of information, made massive amounts of information and services accessible to the general public, and enabled new business models. But everything has a dark side. Along with its benefits, the Internet has brought about such things as cybercrime, computer worms, online fraud, spam, and denial-of-service attacks, among other online unpleasantness. ABSTRACT

Recovery of organic material from Israeli Mishor Rotem oil shale with toluene under supercritical conditions was investigated. The rate of solubilization, change of structural aspects and molecular weights of solubilized products with time were investigated. Experiments to recover organic material from shale were performed in a stainless steel high pressure autoclave. Shale Sample was charged in a sintered glass crucible suspended from the cap of the autoclave; toluene was the solvent in all experiments. Solvent/shale ratio was 20; experimental temperature was 34O°C. The gaseous products were analyzed by gas chromatography. Molecular weights of the organic material recovered was measured by gel permeation chromatography technique. FTIR spectra of the organic material recovered and fractions isolated by extractive and chromatographical methods were measured. The amount of kerogen remaining in the spent shale was determined by oxidative derivative thermal gravimetry. A steady state in the production of solubles was reached within 60 minutes at 340°C with a yield of 60 percent. After this time no further amounts of organic material was recovered. The molecular weights of the recovered organic material decreased at extended times after the steady state was reached. It appeared that the structure of the organic material recovered remained unchanged until the steady state condition is reached whereupon some structural changes occurred. At extended times the organic material was converted into more aromatic and less hydroxyl containing structures of lower molecular weight. The organic material recovered upon reaching steady state was fractionated into 63 percent oils (pentane solubles) and 32 percent asphaltenes (toluene solubles). The oile contained aliphatics and monoaromatic structures and the asphaltenes contained polyaromatic polar structures. Gases which constituted 4 percent of the initial kerogen were produced during the heating period to 340°C. The amount of carbon monoxide produced remained constant and amounts of hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane decreased after supercritical conditions were attained.  相似文献

The lengths of polymerization induction periods for butyl acrylate (BA) in the presence of air were measured at temperatures from 54 to 122.5°C. The kinetics of MEHQ and oxygen consumption at 80 and 100°C are characterized by their own induction periods followed by sharply accelerated rates immediately prior to the BA polymerization. It is proposed that these phenomena are consistent with an “intrinsic” BA radical formation rate that is extremely slow compared to the ultimate rate of radical production from the decomposition of peroxides. These oligomeric peroxides build up during the induction period and, at its end, rapidly decompose with a resulting “radical cascade effect,” causing the accelerated inhibitor and oxygen consumption followed rapidly by BA polymerization. Thus, confirmation that a supply of BA has a normal MEHQ concentration may not be sufficient to ensure its stability. Strict adherence to the storage conditions and shelf life recommended by the supplier6 is absolutely vital to storage safety, especially because uncontrolled poly-merization of BA has the potential to be violent (polymerization exotherm rates higher than 1000°C/min were observed). © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Soft-chemistry routes were used to synthesize Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95-based powders with attractive and stable structural, morphological, and textural properties. In the intermediate temperature range between 500° and 700°C, the average Gd-doped CeO2 (CGO) crystallite size is in the range 9–22 nm and the specific surface area varies from 43.4 to 8 m2/g. Above 700°C, a phase separation occurs between ceria and gadolinium oxide. Addition of alumina was found to be useful in stabilizing the CGO nanocrystallites at a high temperature and to avoid phase separation. A homogeneous dispersion of Pt nanoparticles (<10 nm at 1000°C) in the CGO materials was found to be possible by post-impregnation, although direct insertion of the Pt precursors during the synthesis led to aggregated particles, with less potential for catalytic applications.  相似文献

Prediction of acid condensation has a critical role in designing heat exchangers to recover water vapor from power plant flue gas. Rates of mass transfer for condensation of sulfuric acid vapors onto heat exchanger tubes were theoretically investigated and a computer program for numerical simulations of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was developed. Governing equations based on mass and energy balances for the system were derived to predict variables such as flue gas exit temperatures, cooling water outlet temperatures, and molar fractions and condensation rates of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The associated equations were solved using an iterative solution technique and a one dimensional finite difference method with forward differencing. The Controlled Condensation Method (EPA Method 8B) was applied to experimentally obtain concentration profiles of sulfuric acid vapor in flue gas along downstream in the system. Predicted results of sulfuric acid vapor condensation were compared with empirical data for model validation, and the discrepancy is analyzed in terms of measurement and computation uncertainties. It is found that from both modeling and test results sulfuric acids as well as water vapors are reduced and separated in condensing heat exchanger due to mass transfer with condensation in flue gas. The modeling methodology described here is applicable to theoretical prediction of sulfuric acid and water condensation in full scale flue gas condensing heat exchanger applications.  相似文献

Replacement of the pyridinium ring of 6,11-ethanobenzo[b]quinolizinium cations with thiazolium (4a and 4b) and N-methylimidazolium (4c and 4d) resulted in equipotent compounds in the [3H]TCP binding assay. The corresponding N-methyl-1,2,4-triazolium analogs were less potent in this assay. The thiazolium derivative 4b, with a Ki = 2.9 nM, is being evaluated as a possible neuroprotective N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) antagonist.  相似文献

We performed BAEP study to evaluate acoustic nerve involvement in 102 patients affected by peripheral neuropathies of different etiology, predominantly hereditary and inflammatory acquired neuropathies. Prolonged latency of early waves, indicative of slowing in VIII nerve conduction, was found in a high percentage of cases. Abnormalities were far more frequent (44% vs 14%) and severe in patients with demyelinating rather than axonal neuropathy. Among demyelinating neuropathy, the most severe latency delay was found in Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy type III. The pattern of acoustic nerve involvement differed slightly between Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy type I and acquired inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, perhaps reflecting different pathogenetic mechanisms and different sites of VIII nerve demyelination.  相似文献
