A concept is proposed for utilizing artificial neural networks to enhance the high-speed tracking accuracy of robotic manipulators. Tracking accuracy is a function of the controller's ability to compensate for disturbances produced by dynamical interactions between the links. A model-based control algorithm uses a nominal model of those dynamical interactions to reduce the disturbances. The problem is how to provide accurate dynamics information to the controller in the presence of payload uncertainty and modeling error. Neural network payload estimation uses a series of artificial neural networks to recognize the payload variation associated with a degradation in tracking performance. The network outputs are combined with a knowledge of nominal dynamics to produce a computationally efficient direct form of adaptive control. The concept is validated through experimentation and analysis on the first three links of a PUMA-560 manipulator. A multilayer perceptron architecture with two hidden layers is used. Integration of the principles of neural network pattern recognition and model-based control produces a tracking algorithm with enhanced robustness to incomplete dynamic information. Tracking efficacy and applicability to robust control algorithms are discussed.  相似文献

Amperometric biosensors register oxygen depletion in response to analyte catabolism, and thus are limited by the availability of dissolved oxygen. Microbial sensors containing immobilized cells of Gluconobacter oxydans were hyperoxygenated to 400% of control levels and the effects on sensor responses to glucose were determined. Oxygenated perfluorodecalin (a completely fluorinated organic substance) was as effective in hyperoxygenation as direct sparging with O2, increasing sensor base medium oxygen concentrations from 9.3 to 37 mg/l. Hyperoxygenation enhanced maximal biosensor response amplitudes, particularly at high cell loading densities. Maximal response rates were also improved, although less dramatically. Results suggest that hyperoxygenation may be a new general approach for modulating biosensor responses.  相似文献

Abstract This paper describes an investigation into the processes and effects of using electronic data-logging in practical science. A pilot study of classical laboratory work in schools was compared with similar tasks performed with data-logging systems. A more detailed exploration of pupils' performance was then conducted through an extensive series of observations in a range of secondary schools. The results reinforce previous indications of the potential benefits of data-logging, but such benefits must be viewed in the curriculum context of the type of measurement activity and the pedagogical context of teaching and learning objectives. The paper concludes with a discussion of the latter issues.  相似文献

We have used a previously described model of bilateral radiation-induced lung disease in the rat (Ward et al., Radiat. Res., 136, 15-21, 1993) to study the role of hyaluronan in this process. Hyaluronan was measured in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, serum and lung tissue of rats after gamma irradiation or sham irradiation. Four weeks after irradiation, during peak alveolitis (12-fold increase in protein in the lavage, 7-fold increase in lavaged cells) hyaluronan was elevated 5.5-fold in serum and 1.5-fold in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Histochemical staining demonstrated hyaluronan was in the intra-alveolar edema fluid but was not increased in the alveolar walls; hyaluronan, measured by high-performance liquid chromatography, also was not elevated in lavaged lung tissue. Hyaluronan was not increased in bron-choalveolar lavage fluid, serum or lung tissue during pulmonary edema (2 weeks) or fibrosis (6 to 20 weeks). The administration of methylprednisolone significantly decreased the alveolitis, including the increase in hyaluronan in the alveolar space and serum, but did not suppress fibrosis. It appears that hyaluronan is a marker of inflammation and cannot be used as a serum marker to predict the onset of radiation pneumonitis. Furthermore, an increase in interstitial hyaluronan does not appear to be a necessary precursor in the evolution of radiation fibrosis.  相似文献

A three-stage study has been carried out with rainbow trout (Oncorhyncus mykiss) to develop analytical approaches which can provide a fingerprint for tainting by oil sands chemicals from process-affected waters and natural sources. The objective was to find a simpler alternative to sensory evaluation. In the first stage, a set of seven test compounds was added to fish tissue which was analysed by headspace and solvent (dichloromethane, DCM) extraction followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In the second stage, fingerlings (5-20 g) were exposed for 96 hours to the test compound mixture at 1.0 and 0.5 times the estimated tainting threshold concentrations. In the final stage, fingerlings were exposed for 96 hours to an oil sands process water at 5, 10, 20 and 50% concentrations in clean water. None of the test compounds was identified in DCM extracts of tissue from exposed fish. Two long-chain aldehydes, hexadecanal and 9-octadecenal, were tentatively identified in these extracts by matching of mass spectra with library spectra.  相似文献

In the 1960s the promise of the Brantigan lung reduction surgery was shattered when it was shown that the improvement in airway conductance drifted back towards the preoperative value over a period of 12 to 18 months. Since then there has been a marked improvement in our understanding of emphysema, its pathology, and techniques for obtaining images of the lung. In addition, reliable automated cardiopulmonary and physiologic testing, advances in critical care medicine, and new pharmacologic agents have improved patient care. Surgical techniques now allow better control of air leaks and access to anatomic regions not previously accessible. The combination of all of the above makes lung reduction surgery worth re-examining as a palliative procedure for severely symptomatic patients. Clearly, it is not a panacea but can in some cases produce dramatic improvements in symptomatology and quality of life. This article presents the available data describing potential mechanisms of improvement and clinical outcomes following lung reduction surgery. It also outlines areas that need further work, such as patient selection and surgical techniques.  相似文献
