WS2 nanotubes have been filled and intercalated by molten phase caesium iodide. The presence of caesium iodide inside the WS2 nanotubes has been determined using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) coupled with electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Noticeably, a Moiré pattern was observed due to the interference between encapsulated CsI and WS2 layers. The intercalation of CsI into the host concentric WS2 lattices resulted in an increase in the interplanar spacing.   相似文献

Past research provided abundant evidence that exposure to violent video games increases aggressive tendencies and decreases prosocial tendencies. In contrast, research on the effects of exposure to prosocial video games has been relatively sparse. The present research found support for the hypothesis that exposure to prosocial video games is positively related to prosocial affect and negatively related to antisocial affect. More specifically, two studies revealed that playing a prosocial (relative to a neutral) video game increased interpersonal empathy and decreased reported pleasure at another's misfortune (i.e., schadenfreude). These results lend further credence to the predictive validity of the General Learning Model (Buckley & Anderson, 2006) for the effects of media exposure on social tendencies. Search engine query data deliver insight into the behaviour of individuals who are the smallest possible scale of our economic life. Individuals are submitting several hundred million search engine queries around the world each day. We study weekly search volume data for various search terms from 2004 to 2010 that are offered by the search engine Google for scientific use, providing information about our economic life on an aggregated collective level. We ask the question whether there is a link between search volume data and financial market fluctuations on a weekly time scale. Both collective 'swarm intelligence' of Internet users and the group of financial market participants can be regarded as a complex system of many interacting subunits that react quickly to external changes. We find clear evidence that weekly transaction volumes of S&P 500 companies are correlated with weekly search volume of corresponding company names. Furthermore, we apply a recently introduced method for quantifying complex correlations in time series with which we find a clear tendency that search volume time series and transaction volume time series show recurring patterns.  相似文献

Dredging operations in European harbors for maintenance of navigable water depth produce vast amounts of harbor mud. Between 2005 and 2007, the second largest harbor construction project in Germany was designed as a pilot study to use dredged harbor mud as backfill material to avoid expensive disposal or ex situ treatment. During this project, a partial collapse of the backfill highlighted the need for an improved assessment of undrained shear strength of naturally occurring liquid harbor mud. Using vane shear testing, this study evaluates the effect of shear rate on the undrained shear strength of harbor mud. It is shown that measured values for both peak and residual shear strength are significantly influenced by shear rate effects. Furthermore, the influence of shear rate on the peak shear strength is found to be independent of water content while the influence of the shear rate on the residual shear strength strongly depends on water content. New shear rate dependent correction factors μ are proposed using the test results and the observed time to failure in the harbor basin. The proposed correction leads to significant lower design undrained shear strengths than the classical Bjerrum correction and would have predicted the failure during the construction.  相似文献

An efficient and modular approach to bidentate phosphine‐phosphite ligands formally derived from a 6‐alkyl‐2‐phosphanylphenol, a chiral diol and phosphorus trichloride has been developed. In a key step, a borane‐protected phosphinite, prepared from an o‐bromophenol by O‐phosphanylation, is reacted with n‐butyllithium to afford the corresponding ortho‐phosphanylphenol (as the stable borane adduct) through bromine‐lithium exchange and anionic migration rearrangement. Treatment with phosphorus trichloride in the presence of a base and subsequent reaction of the in situ formed dichlorophosphite with a chiral diol (such as TADDOL or BINOL) affords the target P,P ligands in good overall yield (up to 60% over 4 steps). In contrast to an earlier approach, the new methodology is very general and tolerates bulky ortho‐substituents. The reliability of the operationally convenient protocol was demonstrated in the synthesis of a library of 16 new phosphine‐phosphite ligands, starting from different ortho‐alkylphenols. The modular concept opens a rapid access to a broad variety of ligands and might be useful in the search for and structural optimization of suitable ligands for specific chirogenic transition metal‐catalyzed transformations.  相似文献

Downstream processing is a major issue in biotechnological production. A multitude of unit operations with nonsatisfying yield are often used to reach the desired product purity. Direct recovery technologies such as high-gradient magnetic fishing (HGMF) are advantageous because of their ability to separate the desired product in early stages from crude cultivation broths. However, the use of magnetic particles to capture valuable biotechnological products is often linked to the drawback that support particles are expensive and not available in greater quantities. This current work presents new composite magnetic particles that can be used in biotechnology. They are manufactured by a spray drying process. During this process, the nanosized magnetite particles as well as functional ion-exchange nanoparticles are integrated into one particle in which they are linked by a matrix polymer. The production procedure is flexible, scalable, and therefore economical. These particles have good adsorption capacities of up to 85 mg/g adsorbed protein and good binding kinetics. They are resistant to harsh conditions such as short ultrasonic treatment or extreme pHs. In order to test their usefulness in biosuspensions, model proteins were separated using these particles. The anion and cation exchanger particles separated lysozyme (LZ) or BSA from cultivation suspensions. The selectivity of recovery was dependent on other proteins present as is usual for ion-exchange binding mechanisms.  相似文献

We studied the dynamics near the boundary between laminar and turbulent dynamics in pipe flow. This boundary contains invariant dynamical states that are attracting when the dynamics is confined to the boundary. These states can be found by controlling a single quantity, in our case the energy content. The edge state is dominated by two downstream vortices and shows intrinsic chaotic dynamics. With increasing Reynolds number the separation between the edge state and turbulence increases. We can track it down to Re=1900, where the turbulent lifetimes are short enough that spontaneous decay can also be seen in experiments.  相似文献

Flow cytometry assays, which measure CD69 activation and intracellular cytokine production, have been used to measure peripheral blood lymphocyte (PBL) responses to in vitro antigen exposure. In the present study, we show that, in healthy individuals and immunosuppressed kidney transplant recipients, CD69 expression and intracellular cytokine production by peripheral blood T cells compare favorably to thymidine uptake as a measure of PBL response to alloantigen in mixed leukocyte culture (MLC). Heparinized whole blood from 23 healthy individuals was incubated for 24-48 h with 3rd party allogeneic monocytes; blood from twelve kidney transplant recipients was incubated with monocytes from their kidney donor and with monocytes from unrelated individuals. The percentage of T cells expressing surface CD69 or intracellular IL-2 or IL-4 was determined by 3-color flow cytometry. We identified 5 donor-specific response patterns in our kidney transplant group. One transplant recipient was hyporesponsive; his cells did not express CD69 or produce IL-2 in response to either donor or 3rd party allogeneic cells. All other transplant recipients expressed CD69 and IL-2 in response to 3rd party allogeneic cells. Two had no response to donor cells (donor-specific hyporesponsiveness), three had donor-specific anergy (CD69 expression without cytokine production in response to donor cells), five had a donor-specific Thl response (CD69 expression and IL-2 production in response to donor cells), and one had a donor-specific Th2 response (CD69 expression and IL-4 but not IL-2 production in response to donor cells). Rapid measures of donor-specific hyporesponsiveness such as CD69 activation antigen expression and intracellular cytokine production may prove valuable in monitoring lymphocyte function and aid in the long-term management of kidney transplant recipients.  相似文献

Window opening in passive solar dwellings Discussions of the user influence on the heating energy consumption of buildings are often controversial. A particularly significant issue is the opening of windows. However, concrete data about user behaviour are rarely available, and the actual consequences of open windows on the heating energy consumption are not understood very well. Based on measured data, this paper discusses the duration of additional window opening in passive solar dwellings, typical behaviour patterns, influence factors and the consequences on the heating energy consumption. Window opening during the summer is also considered. The study is based on measurements carried out at the passive solar housing development in Wiesbaden‐Dotzheim [1], [2] during 2001 and 2002.  相似文献
