The system developed for component testing at an appliance manufacturing facility is described. The complete installation consists of minicomputers that control several test stands and report the test results to a central quality assurance station. The various system components are 1) a disk-based central computer quality assurance station, 2) three computerized test stands for simultaneous testing of 48 ``infinite switches' used in electric range surface heater control, 3) air-fluidized aluminum oxide temperature baths, and 4) a snap-disk thermostat test stand, equipped with its own minicomputer and communications capability with the central station.  相似文献

S100 proteins have no known enzymatic activity and exert their intracellular effects via interaction with and regulation of the activity of other proteins, termed target proteins, in both a Ca(2+)-dependent and Ca(2+)-independent manner. Structural studies have identified the linker region between the two EF-hand Ca(2+) binding domains and the C-terminus as Ca(2+)-dependent target protein binding sites in several S100 family members. In fact, C-terminal aromatic residues are obligatory for interaction of S100A1 with several of its Ca(2+)-dependent target proteins. Pharmacological studies suggest the presence of additional Ca(2+)-dependent binding motifs on some family members. A minimum of seven family members interact with and regulate the activity of aldolase A in a Ca(2+)-independent manner. In the case of S100A1, Ca(2+)-independent target protein interactions utilize a binding motif distinct from the C-terminal Ca(2+)-dependent target protein binding site. Several studies suggest that ionic interactions participate in the interaction of S100 family members with Ca(2+)-independent target proteins. While some target proteins are activated by multiple family members, other target proteins exhibit family member-specific activation, i.e., they are activated by a single family member. As predicted, family member specific interactions appear to be mediated by regions that exhibit the most divergence in amino acid sequence among family members, the linker or "hinge" region and the C terminus. Further specificity in S100-target protein interactions may arise from the different biochemical/biophysical properties of the individual family members, including affinity for metal ions (Ca(2+), Zn(2+), and Cu(2+)), oligomerization properties, heterodimerization, post-translational modifications, and lipid-binding. Delineation of the structural motifs that mediate S100-target protein interactions and determination of the in vivo relevance of these interactions are needed to fully understand the role of S100 proteins in normal and diseased cells.  相似文献

Using procedures similar to Watkins and Kush (1994) with the WISC-R, the study examined the WISC-III (Wechsler, 1991) core subtest profiles of a total of 1,450 children, including three samples with academic difficulties (mental retardation, learning disabilities, and referred but not found eligible for special education) and three samples with high academic achievement (gifted, disadvantaged-gifted, and referred but not found eligible for gifted services). Eight core WISC-III subtest profiles, or those deemed to be typical in the standardization sample and identified by Konold, Glutting, McDermott, Kush, and Watkins (1999), were used in the present study. The percentages of children in the six samples who could be classified into each of the eight core profiles were compared to percentages found in the national standardization sample. Results of χ2 analyses indicated that, for each sample, proportions of students who fell into the eight core profile categories were significantly different from the proportions found in the WISC-III standardization sample. In addition, each sample had small numbers of students whose WISC-III profiles were determined to be unique, or not equivalent to a core profile. Similar to Watkins and Kush, the present study found little evidence to suggest routine exploration or interpretation of WISC-III profiles by psychologists. Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial vascular disease that leads to inflammation and stiffening of the arteries and decreases their elasticity due to the accumulation of calcium, small dense Low Density Lipoproteins (sdLDL), inflammatory cells, and fibrotic material. A review of studies pertaining to cardiometabolic risk factors, lipids alterations, hypolipidemic agents, nutraceuticals, hypoglycaemic drugs, atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction, and inflammation was performed. There are several therapeutic strategies including Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors, inclisiran, bempedoic acid, Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), and nutraceuticals that promise improvement in the atheromatous plaque from a molecular point of view, because have actions on the exposure of the LDL-Receptor (LDL-R), on endothelial dysfunction, activation of macrophages, on lipid oxidation, formations on foam cells, and deposition extracellular lipids. Atheroma plaque reduction both as a result of LDL-Cholesterol (LDL-C) intensive lowering and reducing inflammation and other residual risk factors is an integral part of the management of atherosclerotic disease, and the use of valid therapeutic alternatives appear to be appealing avenues to solving the problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose to improve the POCS-based super-resolution reconstruction (SRR) methods in two ways. First, the discretization of the continuous image formation model is improved to explicitly allow for higher order interpolation methods to be used. Second, the constraint sets are modified to reduce the amount of edge ringing present in the high resolution image estimate. This effectively regularizes the inversion process.  相似文献

Three-dimensional integrated circuits (3-D ICs) offer significant improvements over two-dimensional circuits, and promise a solution to the severe problems that are being, and will be, encountered as monolithic process geometries are reduced to below 65 nm. Several methods associated with the fabrication of 3-D ICs are discussed in this paper, and the techniques developed by Tezzaron Semiconductor Corp., are described in detail. Four successful 3-D ICs are described, along with the anticipated benefits of applying 3-D design to future system-on-chip (SoC) devices.  相似文献

Recent studies suggest that instant messaging (IM) is positively related to the quality of adolescents' existing friendships. However, most of these studies were based on cross-sectional correlational data. In addition, most studies have focused on direct effects of IM on the quality of friendships without exploring mediating variables that may explain these effects. The aim of this study was to fill these two lacunae in the literature. We hypothesized that IM, which is mostly used to communicate with existing friends, stimulates the quality of friendships, via its potential to stimulate intimate online self-disclosure. A sample of 812 Dutch adolescents between 10 and 17 years of age were surveyed twice within a 6-month interval. IM had a positive longitudinal effect on the quality of adolescents' existing friendships. This direct positive effect could be explained entirely by adolescents' tendency to disclose intimate information online.  相似文献

The arsenic-based pesticide, monosodium methanearsonate (MSMA), is presently being evaluated for re-registration in Canada and the United States and has been widely used in British Columbia to help suppress Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) outbreaks. We assessed the availability and exposure of MSMA to woodpeckers and other forest birds that may prey directly on contaminated bark beetles. Total arsenic residues in MPB from MSMA treated trees ranged from 1.3-700.2 microg g(-1) dw (geometric mean 42.0 microg g(-1)) with the metabolite monomethyl arsonic acid (MMAA) contributing 90-97% to the total arsenic extracted. Live adult and larval beetles were collected from treated trees and reached concentrations up to 327 microg g(-1) dw. MPBs from reference trees had significantly lower arsenic concentrations averaging 0.19 microg g(-1) dw. Woodpeckers foraged more heavily on MSMAtreesthat contained beetles with lower arsenic residues, suggesting those trees had reduced MSMAtranslocation and possibly greater live beetle broods. Blood samples from five species of woodpeckers and other forest passerines breeding within 1 km of MSMA stands contained elevated levels of total arsenic but with large individual variability (geometric mean = 0.18 microg g(-1) dw, range 0.02-2.20 microg g(-1). The results indicate that there is significant accumulation and transfer of organic arsenic within the food chain at levels that may present a toxicity risk to avian wildlife.  相似文献

This study examined the relationship between media violence exposure and Attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)‐related behaviors. Using survey (parent‐reported) and genetic data of 1,612 Dutch children (aged 5 to 9 years), we examined genetic disposition as a possible cause of individual differences in children's use of and susceptibility to media violence. The gene variant of interest was the 5‐HTTLPR polymorphism, which has been associated with ADHD‐related behaviors in previous research. Results showed that the “long” variant of the gene polymorphism was related to greater violent media use, which in turn was related to more ADHD‐related behaviors. The 5‐HTTLPR genotype did not moderate the effect of media violence on ADHD‐related behaviors. This study provides insight into the role of genetic factors in media effects.  相似文献
