Platinum particles (<1.5 nm) have been shown to behave as bases in their interaction with -alumina. FTIR spectra of adsorbed pyridine probe molecules showed that the acid strength of the -alumina was decreased by the presence of (<1.5 nm) Pt particles. intermediates that de-anchor from the support. Consequently, agglomeration to 8 nm Pt particles was observed following treatment in hydrogen at a relatively mild temperature. For the treated catalyst the IR data of absorbed pyridine show a 3 cm-1 increase relative to the original Pt/-Al2O3 catalyst, indicating a strengthening of the acidity. Changes in the Pt particle size were confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy of CO absorbed onto the Pt particles before and after treatment. Consecutive CO and pyridine probe adsorption demonstrated the electronic interplay between the Pt particles and the support. Pyridine adsorption onto the -alumina support of a Pt/Al2O3 catalyst pre-dosed with CO produces a nearly 40 cm-1 lowering of the CO peak position, indicative of CO bond weakening. In the case of CO adsorbed onto a catalyst pre-dosed with pyridine, a shift in the pyridine IR spectrum was only observed from the original highly dispersed catalyst. 相似文献

Staphylococcus aureus remains a leading cause of food-poisoning with substantial impact on public health. Using a multiplex polymerase chain reaction-DNA enzyme immunoassay (PCR-DEIA), we studied the presence of genes encoding staphylococcal enterotoxin-like (SEl) superantigens sem, sen, and seo, associated with the enterotoxin gene cluster (egc), in 429 clinical Staphylococcus aureus isolates. 294 (68.5%) isolates tested positive for at least one of the three SEl genes. In contrast to the fixed gene combination seg/sei also located on egc, a substantial number of isolates (n = 108) were found to bear only one or two of the genes encoding SElM, SElN, and SElO. Regarding the origin of the S. aureus isolates, a significant difference (P = 0.022) was found for the possession of seo (61.2% of blood isolates versus 42.9% of nasal strains). Also sem (not significantly) was found more common in blood isolates (52.1% versus 40.5%). The survey of the newly described SEl genes sem-seo supports the concept that most clinical S. aureus isolates harbor subsets of pyrogenic toxin superantigens. The potential contribution of seo and sem to the pathogenic potential of S. aureus has to be further evaluated. 相似文献

Radar cross sections for a variety of spherical and cylindrical scatterers having homogeneous dielectric or plasma shells are obtained by using both the exact boundary value solutions and approximate, semi-empirical methods based on physical principles. The plasma is assumed to have the macroscopic properties of a lossless dielectric with a permittivity less than that of free space. A superposition approximation for the radar cross section of a dielectric coated conducting body is obtained by considering the scattered field to be the phasor sum of two principal components, the field scattered by the air-dielectric interface and the field scattered by an equivalent conducting body which differs from the actual body because of the lens action of the shell. This approximation yields very good agreement with the exact solutions for both spherical and cylindrical dielectric clad scatterers with radii in the Rayleigh region and in the resonant region, and for bistatic scattering as well as for backscatter. The echo area of a conducting sphere with nonconcentric spherical dielectric shell calculated by means of the superposition approximation is in excellent agreement with experimental measurements, thus demonstrating the validity of this method in a case for which the exact solution cannot be obtained. 相似文献

At times, total dissolved gas concentrations in the Columbia and Snake rivers have been elevated due to involuntary spill from high spring runoff and voluntary spill used as a method to pass juvenile salmonids over dams. The goal of this project was to determine if acute exposure to total dissolved gas supersaturation (TDGS) affects the reproductive performance of female chinook salmon late in their maturation. During this study, adult female spring chinook salmon were exposed to mean TDGS levels of 114.1% to 125.5%. We ended exposures at first mortality, or at the appearance of impending death. Based on this criterion, exposures lasted from 10 to 68 h and were inversely related to TDGS. There was no effect of TDGS on pre‐spawning mortality or fecundity when comparing treatment fish to experimental controls or the general hatchery population four to six weeks after exposures. Egg quality, based on egg weight and egg diameter, did not differ between treatment and control fish. Fertilization rate and survival to eyed‐stage was high ( > 94%) for all groups. With the exception of Renibacterium salmoninarum (the causative agent of bacterial kidney disease; BKD), no viral or bacterial fish pathogens were isolated from experimental fish. The prevalence (about 45%) and severity of R. salmoninarum did not differ among the groups or the general hatchery population. We conclude that these acute exposures to moderate levels of gas‐supersaturated water—perhaps similar to that experienced by immigrating adult salmon as they approach and pass a hydropower dam on the Columbia River—did not affect reproductive success of female chinook salmon late in their maturation. These results are most applicable to summer and fall chinook salmon, which migrate in the summer/fall and spawn shortly after reaching their natal streams. It is a long debated question whether catalytic activities of enzymes, which lie on the millisecond timescale, are possibly already reflected in variations in atomic thermal fluctuations on the pico- to nanosecond timescale. To shed light on this puzzle, the enzyme human acetylcholinesterase in its wild-type form and complexed with the inhibitor huperzine A were investigated by various neutron scattering techniques and molecular dynamics simulations. Previous results on elastic neutron scattering at various timescales and simulations suggest that dynamical processes are not affected on average by the presence of the ligand within the considered time ranges between 10 ps and 1 ns. In the work presented here, the focus was laid on quasi-elastic (QENS) and inelastic neutron scattering (INS). These techniques give access to different kinds of individual diffusive motions and to the density of states of collective motions at the sub-picoseconds timescale. Hence, they permit going beyond the first approach of looking at mean square displacements. For both samples, the autocorrelation function was well described by a stretched-exponential function indicating a linkage between the timescales of fast and slow functional relaxation dynamics. The findings of the QENS and INS investigation are discussed in relation to the results of our earlier elastic incoherent neutron scattering and molecular dynamics simulations. 相似文献

The reforming of diesel and diesel-like fuels plays a central role in the development of fuel cell systems for on-board power supplies. The vaporization of the fuel via a spray formation and the subsequent mixture with water vapor and air determine the quality of the reforming process, as is shown in this paper. By using a high quality nozzle residual hydrocarbons were below 25 ppmV during the reforming of standard diesel. Through the use of a fuel injector in pulsed operation, the load range was able to be increased from 1:1.67 to 1:6. Spray pattern analyses were conducted using a high-speed camera. The formation of the spray pattern lasted 1.5–2 ms. The testing of a fast-closing magnetic valve manufactured by GSR Ventiltechnik was carried out on the autothermal reformer (ATR) type AH2. It exist not any direct influence of the pulsed operation on hydrogen production. 相似文献
