Antifungal activity of sodium acetate and Lactobacillus rhamnosus   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The inhibition of molds by sodium acetate in deMan Rogosa Sharpe (MRS) medium, along with the antifungal activity of Lactobacillus rhamnosus VT1, was studied by the slope agar plate method. MRS agar prepared with and without sodium acetate was used as the agar substrate. A total of 42 strains of Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Alternaria, Cladosporium, and Rhizopus were used to compare sensitivities to the inhibitory activity of sodium acetate and L. rhamnosus VT1. It was found that sodium acetate in MRS medium affected the growth of 33 of the 42 mold strains tested to various degrees. The highest sensitivity to sodium acetate was shown by strains of Fusarium, followed by strains of Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Rhizopus. L. rhamnosus VT1 also inhibited mold growth. A significant finding was that sodium acetate and L. rhamnosus VT1 in combination exhibited a possible synergistic action. Thirty-nine of the 42 mold strains tested were completely inhibited by the presence of both antifungal agents. This finding confirms that sodium acetate, a basic component of commercial MRS medium, has strong antifungal properties, and this must be taken into consideration when evaluating the antifungal activity of Lactobacillus cultures grown in MRS broth.  相似文献

Although fatty acid-binding proteins (FABP) differentially affect fatty acid uptake, nothing is known regarding their role(s) in determining cellular phospholipid levels and phospholipid fatty acid composition. The effects of liver (L)- and intestinal (I)-FABP expression on these parameters were determined using stably transfected L-cells. Expression of L- and I-FABP increased cellular total phospholipid mass (nmol/mg protein) 1.7- and 1.3-fold relative to controls, respectively. L-FABP expression increased the masses of choline glycerophospholipids (ChoGpl) 1.5-fold, phosphatidylserine (PtdSer) 5.6-fold, ethanolamine glycerophospholipids 1.4-fold, sphingomyelin 1.7-fold, and phosphatidylinositol 2.6-fold. In contrast, I-FABP expression only increased the masses of ChoGpl and PtdSer, 1.2- and 3.1-fold, respectively. Surprisingly, both L- and I-FABP expression increased ethanolamine plasmalogen mass 1.6- and 1.1-fold, respectively, while choline plasmalogen mass was increased 2.3- and 1.7-fold, respectively. The increase in phospholipid levels resulted in dramatic 48 and 33% decreases in the cholesterol-to-phospholipid ratio in L- and I-FABP expressing cells, respectively. L-FABP expression generally increased polyunsaturated fatty acids, primarily by increasing 20∶4n−6 and 22∶6n−3, while decreasing 18∶1n−9 and 16∶1n−7. I-FABP expression generally increased only 20∶4n−6 proportions. Hence, expression of both I- and L-FABP differentially affected phospholipid mass, class composition, and acyl chain composition. Although both proteins enhanced phospholipid synthesis, the effect of L-FABP was much greater, consistent with previous work suggesting that these two FABP differentially affect lipid metabolism.  相似文献

Three fast search routines to be used in the encoding phase of vector quantization (VQ) image compression systems are presented. These routines, which are based on geometric considerations, provide the same results as an exhaustive (or full) search. Examples show that the proposed algorithms need only 3-20% of the number of mathematical operations required by a full search and fewer than 50% of the operations required by recently proposed alternatives.  相似文献

Following the suggestion that therapeutic change is accelerated in time-limited psychotherapy, this study investigated the across-session patterns of session impact in the treatments of 117 depressed clients who were randomly allocated to 8 or 16 sessions of cognitive-behavioral (CB) or psychodynamic-interpersonal (PI) therapy. After each session, all clients completed the Session Evaluation Questionnaire and 75 of the clients completed the Session Impacts Scale. Session ratings indicated that sessions were perceived increasingly positively on most impact dimensions (e.g., session depth and smoothness, relationship with the therapist, feelings of understanding and problem solving, postsession positive mood) as treatment progressed. Early in treatment, PI therapy sessions were less smooth (i.e., more tense and uncomfortable) and less focused on problem solving, but PI sessions changed more rapidly than CB sessions on these dimensions, so that later in treatment, sessions of both treatments were equivalently positive. In both treatments, the trend toward more positive sessions was more rapid (i.e., the across-session slope was steeper) in 8-session treatments than in 16 session treatments. A 4-kb DNA segment of Tenebrio molitor (Insecta, Coleoptera) genomic DNA containing two larval-pupal cuticular genes has been cloned and sequenced. These genes, transcribed in opposite directions, are related in DNA sequence and the proteins encoded are very similar. Each of them contains a single intron located inside the sequence encoding the signal peptide, and a conserved sequence at -200 bp from the mRNA start position. These similarities in sequence suggest that these genes have evolved by duplication followed by diversification and that they are members of a family of genes with a common ancestry. They are the first example of clustered genes in Tenebrio molitor.  相似文献

Triacylglycerol lipolysis was inhibited by palmitate, in the isolated perfused normal rat heart. Acetate or acetylcarnitine could reproduce the inhibitory effects of palmitate. Since heart neutral lipase plays an important role in the lipolysis of heart triacylglycerols, the effects of acetylcarnitine, acetyl CoA and related metabolites on the microsomal neutral lipase activity were studied. ATP inhibited the enzyme activity in a concentration-dependent manner without a lag phase. AMP and adenylyl imidodiphosphate, two compounds structurally related to ATP but whose phosphate groups cannot be transferred, did not inhibit the microsomal lipase activity. These results suggested that ATP inhibited the lipase activity through the transfer of its phosphate group. It is proposed that cellular ATP concentration is a determinant of tricylglycerol lipolysis in the heart.  相似文献

This study reports an application of the assimilation model, a theory of psychotherapeutic change, to an analogue study in which 43 students were asked to write for 20 minutes a day for 4 days ("Pennebaker paradigm") about a traumatic experience. Contrary to expectations based on previous research, participants who showed the greatest change in assimilation level and achieved the highest levels of assimilation during the study subsequently had more health-center visits than participants whose assimilation was less. Qualitative exploratory work suggested that there may be negative consequences of exposing traumatic experiences in the absence of supportive therapy to contain and fully integrate the experiences. Maintaining the confidentiality of research subjects and research data is essential to the research process. However, the legal landscape surrounding the concept of confidentiality is a dynamic one. This article discusses why confidentiality in research is important, various threats to it, efforts to protect it through a “researcher privilege,” as well as other statutory and regulatory provisions relevant to research confidentiality. The article concludes with a discussion of risk management tools that researchers concerned with maintaining confidentiality can use in the design and implementation of research.
