Packaging engineers need to be able to accurately determine the forces present in the shipping environment in order to protect packaged goods. The purpose of this study was to determine the vertical vibration levels measured in three separate truck-trailer suspension systems; conventional leaf-spring, conventional air-ride and damaged air-ride. The main conclusion reached in this study is that the air-ride suspension when maintained gives lower power density (PD) levels on all road surfaces studied. A damaged air-ride suspension and leaf-spring suspension are very similar in response frequencies, although the damaged air-ride produces higher vibration levels at lower frequencies.  相似文献

Summary The thermal post buckling behavior of simply-supported, antisymmetric cross-ply plates with immovable edges is investigated in this paper. For this purpose, a one term approximation for the inplane and transverse displacements is assumed and Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to obtain the equations of equilibrium. The question, whether the true thermal buckling (bifurcation buckling under thermal loads) exists for such plates is also addressed to. The conditions under which the thermal buckling in the classical sense occurs are derived. It is shown that nonlinear bending stiffness for such plates is direction dependent, because of an extra quadratic nonlinear term in addition to the usual cubic nonlinear term in the governing equilibrium equation. Results are presented for various plate configurations.  相似文献

In the conventional plane-frame model of framed-tube buildings, only the primary interaction between the web frame and the flange frame is considered, through vertical shear transfer at corner columns. In addition to this, a secondary interaction takes place due to horizontal shear transfer at each floor level, through the floor slab having high in-plane rigidity. This interaction causes a discrepancy in member forces of a few bottom and top storeys. A simple modification is suggested in the form of an additional cantilever column connected to the conventional plane-frame model by axial force transfer members at every floor level. The improved model yields member forces in all the storeys that are very close to those obtained using 3D analysis.  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus positive for antibodies to glutamate decarboxylase is heterogeneous as far as the degree of impairment of endogenous insulin release, though antibodies to glutamate decarboxylase are the most useful marker for future insulin deficiency. To investigate what determines the prognosis of diabetes mellitus positive for antibodies to glutamate decarboxylase, we measured HLA-DRB1 alleles in three groups: 77 cases of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), 44 of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) with secondary failure of oral hypoglycemic therapy, and 22 of NIDDM well controlled by diet and/or sulfonylurea agents. The proportion of susceptible and resistant alleles to IDDM determined the degree of insulin deficiency, and comparison of IDDM to NIDDM well controlled by diet and/or sulfonylurea agents revealed significant differences in DRB1*0405 (P < 0.05; RR = 2.82 and RR = 0.89, respectively) and DRB1*1502 (P < 0.001; RR = 0.02 and RR = 2.19, respectively). This study revealed that HLA-DRB1 alleles contribute to determining the prognosis of Japanese diabetes mellitus positive for antibodies to glutamate decarboxylase.  相似文献

The lysis of group AB erythrocytes by human complement was studied by different anti-A and anti-B IgM monoclonal antibodies (mabs) in a 51Cr-release assay. The concentration of membrane-bound immunoglobulin was detected by ELISA, and the amount of C1q and C3 bound to sensitized red cells was measured by using purified, 125I-labelled molecules. We have demonstrated that there is an exponential relationship between the concentration of the sensitizing IgM mabs and C1q binding to the sensitized AB cell. The efficiency of binding was related to the number of antibodies bound; thus, anti-A sensitized cells bound 3-6 times more C1q than anti-B sensitized cells did. AB cells, on the other hand, bound similar amounts of C3 whether anti-A or anti-B was present. The lytic efficiencies of the various IgM mabs during short incubation times were different, suggesting that the complement activation rates vary widely with different antibodies on the AB cell membrane. The binding of C1q to an antibody-sensitized target activates a cascade, whose components may migrate away from the sensitizing antibody; interactions between the activation processes generated by the anti-A and anti-B antibodies may thus occur. Choosing appropriate pairs of anti-A and anti-B mabs for the simultaneous sensitization of AB cells has indeed resulted in stimulation in some and inhibition in other combinations of mabs. It is suggested that stimulation is observed when the activated intermediates are produced in excess, whereas inhibition occurs when a shortage of activated intermediates prevents mutual utilization.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Conventional techniques for implant metal framework fabrication produce error of a magnitude that is inconsistent with the passive-fit requirement for osseointegrated implants. To understand the correlation between prosthesis fit and the implant-tissue response, evaluation of the interface tissue reactions to customary levels of fit is required. The purpose of this study is to determine the accuracy of torch casting full arch frameworks using a high palladium alloy and a ringless phosphate-bonded investment technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three different variables were considered relative to casting accuracy effect. The first variable, completeness of mold-fill, compared cast specimens where the entire sprue system was filled as part of the casting and cast specimens without the sprue system filled. The second variable, phosphate-bonded investment special liquid concentrations, compared groups of castings produced from 0%, 12%, 25%, and 50% special liquid. The third variable, investment mold shape, compared casting produced from a conventional ringless mold shape with a modified ringless mold shape where the investment in the same horizontal plane as the pattern was equal in thickness at the internal and external surfaces. Horizontal and vertical distances on the wax pattern and resulting framework were measured using a machinists microscope to determine casting error. Combined vertical and horizontal error was used for comparison between groups (one-way analysis of variance). RESULTS: No significant differences existed among the three groups compared (P > 0.05). The mean error comparison between the complete and incomplete mold-fill groups showed no statistical difference, while the incomplete fill group was found to be more porous. The mean error of all groups (0.130 mm) exceeded the recommended level of fit needed to satisfy the passive fit requirement by more than 10-fold. CONCLUSIONS: These results verify clinical observation and suggest that the use of conventional lost wax casting technique to cast one-piece full arch implant frameworks is both imprecise and inaccurate as judged against the passive fit requirement. The consequences of screw-fastening misfitting prostheses to osseointegrated implants is currently under investigation.  相似文献

Three sub-25 nm fly height sliders are presented for near contact recording. The designs are geared towards the goal of achieving 10 Gb/in 2 areal density. The optimization procedure presented shows promise for facilitating achievement of this goal. Summary Algorithms for mutual exclusion that adapt to the current degree of contention are developed. Afilter and a leader election algorithm form the basic building blocks. The algorithms achieve system response times that are independent of the total number of processes and governed instead by the current degree of contention. The final algorithm achieves a constant amortized system response time. Manhoi Choy was born in 1967 in Hong Kong. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineerings from the University of Hong Kong in 1989, and his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1991. Currently, he is working on his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of California at Santa Barbara. His research interests are in the areas of parallel and distributed systems, and distributed algorithms. Ambuj K. Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1989, an M.S. in Computer Science from Iowa State University in 1984, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur in 1982.
