A food recording electronic device to simplify the collection of dietary data is described. The need for a subject to maintain a quantitative account of food intake, and for a dietitian to subsequently code this record prior to computer analysis, are both eliminated using this approach. In combination with an electronic kitchen balance, the recorder, which is based upon a single-board computer (SBC) and special keyboard, enables the weight, food type and time of consumption of each food to be recorded automatically in response to simple key entry. The resident program, transparent to the user, allows data from surveys lasting up to three weeks to be stored for subsequent serial downloading to a host computer.  相似文献

Subjects were presented with an initially stationary binaural image formed by the fusion of two identical pulses, without interaural time difference (ITD), at the two ears. The image was then made to traverse the subject's auditory perceptual space by introducing ITD, varying linearly with time, under computer control. The direction of movement, i.e. towards the right or left ear, could be reversed by the listener, by pressing a button. Subjects were requested to keep the image central, by pressing the button when they judged that deviation from subjective centre had occurred. Experiments of this type can be considered as analogous to Békésy audiometry, where the subject automatically traces his threshold of hearing, in that here the listener traces out his auditory perceptual centre as it varies with time. Hence, equivalent analyses to those employed for Békésy audiometry are possible. Subsequent to the initial part of the experiment, an additional pulse was added to one channel, preceding the original pulse, to form a pulse pair. The monaural masking of the original pulse by this additional pulse thus acts to shift the pre-existing binaural image. The effect of varying the amplitude and onset time of the masking pulse, relative to the original pulse, on the Békésy-type trace was examined.  相似文献

The authors introduce an application-level I/O facility, the Alloc Stream Facility, that addresses three primary goals. First, ASF addresses recent computing substrate changes to improve performance, allowing applications to benefit from specific features such as mapped files. Second, it is designed for parallel systems, maximizing concurrency and reporting errors properly. Finally, its modular and object-oriented structure allows it to support a variety of popular I/O interfaces (including stdio and C++ stream I/O) and to be tuned to system behavior, exploiting a system's strengths while avoiding its weaknesses. On a number of standard Unix systems, I/O-intensive applications perform substantially better when linked to the Alloc facility. Also, modifying applications to use a new interface provided by the facility can improve performance by another factor of two. These performance improvements are achieved primarily by reducing data copying and the number of system calls. Not visible in these improvements is the extra degree of concurrency the facility brings to multithreaded and parallel applications  相似文献

We prove optimal lower bounds for multilinear circuits and for monotone circuits with bounded depth. These lower bounds state that, in order to compute certain functions, these circuits need exactly as many OR gates as the respective DNFs. The proofs exploit a property of the functions that is based solely on prime implicant structure. Due to this feature, the lower bounds proved also hold for approximations of the considered functions that are similar to slice functions. Known lower bound arguments cannot handle these kinds of approximations. In order to show limitations of our approach, we prove that cliques of size n - 1 can be detected in a graph with n vertices by monotone formulas with O(log n) OR gates. Our lower bound for multilinear circuits improves a lower bound due to Borodin, Razborov and Smolensky for nondeterministic read-once branching programs computing the clique function.  相似文献

This paper investigates the characteristics of the methane plasma reduction of iron ore in comparison to that of the hydrogen plasma reduction process. Although hydrogen plasma smelting reduction (HPSR) has potential advantages as a steelmaking alternative in terms of simplicity (less operation units) and less harmful detrimental environmental implications, its high cost has a negative influence on its usage. In this regard, natural gas (> 96 % methane) could be adopted in the field of plasma smelting reduction. A brief comparison between hydrogen and methane options has been carried out experimentally. Heat and mass balance models were conducted to explore the features of up‐scaled processes with respect to consumption figures and CO2 emissions. It was found that the methane plasma is a good alternative iron oxide smelting process.  相似文献

This paper reports the development, evaluation, and first clinical trials of the access to the prostate tissue (APT) II system-a scanner independent system for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided transrectal prostate interventions. The system utilizes novel manipulator mechanics employing a steerable needle channel and a novel six degree-of-freedom hybrid tracking method, comprising passive fiducial tracking for initial registration and subsequent incremental motion measurements. Targeting accuracy of the system in prostate phantom experiments and two clinical human-subject procedures is shown to compare favorably with existing systems using passive and active tracking methods. The portable design of the APT II system, using only standard MRI image sequences and minimal custom scanner interfacing, allows the system to be easily used on different MRI scanners.  相似文献

We have synthesized a series of fluorescent acylcholine derivatives carrying different linkers that vary in length and structure and connect the acylcholine unit to the environment-sensitive fluorophores 7-(diethylamino)coumarin-3-carbonyl (DEAC) or N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-yl) (NBD). The pharmacological properties of the fluorescent analogues were investigated on heterologously expressed nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) from Torpedo californica and on oocytes transplanted with nAChR-rich Torpedo marmorata membranes. Agonist action strongly depends on the length and the structure of the linker. One particular analogue, DEAC-Gly-C6-choline, showed partial agonist behavior with about half of the maximum response of acetylcholine, which is at least 20 times higher than those observed with previously described fluorescent dansyl- and NBD-acylcholine analogues. Binding of DEAC-Gly-C6-choline to Torpedo nAChR induces a strong enhancement of fluorescence intensity. Association and displacement kinetic experiments revealed dissociation constants of 0.5 nM for the alphadelta-binding site and 15.0 nM for the alphagamma-binding site. Both the pharmacological and the spectroscopic properties of this agonist show great promise for characterizing the allosteric mechanism behind the function of the Torpedo nAChR, as well as for drug-screening studies.  相似文献

Surgical outcome in hippocampal atrophy (n = 44) and amygdalohippocampal atrophy (n = 14) were compared. Hippocampal atrophy had better seizure-free outcome than amygdalohippocampal atrophy (80% versus 50%, p = 0.043). Severity of hippocampal atrophy correlated with duration of epilepsy in patients with hippocampal atrophy (r = 0.4, p = 0.007), but not in those with amygdalohippocampal atrophy, suggesting that these two groups may have a different pathogenesis.  相似文献
