This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between measured net portal absorptions (NPA) and flows of digestible essential amino acids (EAA) predicted with the National Research Council model (NRC, 2001) or the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System model (CNCPS, version 5.0.34). Net portal absorption data were obtained from 33 measurements of portal-arterial plasma EAA concentration differences among 8 treatments in lactating dairy cows, with plasma flow estimated from downstream dilution of para amino-hippurate. The predicted digestible flows from NRC (2001) related better than CNCPS to NPA observed in our studies, as shown by the lower standard errors on the slopes for all EAA and lower root mean prediction errors for all EAA except Met and Phe. However, the partitioning of the prediction error indicated a systematic underprediction (mean bias) for the NRC model (2001), with the exception of Ile. It is important to note that a relationship of unity was not expected, as discussed in the paper, because of losses of EAA through portal-drained viscera metabolism. A revised set of predictive equations for digestible EAA was obtained using a subset of data from NRC (2001) limited to trials conducted with dairy cows. This increased the predicted flows of digestible EAA by only 2%. Flows of digestible EAA were also estimated using a factorial approach, assuming an AA composition for each fraction of the duodenal flow estimated by NRC (undegradable, microbial, and endogenous proteins). This resulted in a slight improvement in the slope of the regression between predicted flows and measured NPA, but still yielded predicted digestive flows that were too low to support observed NPA. Finally, on the basis of literature values, increment of the digestibility of the undegradable fraction of forages and of microbial protein is suggested to improve the relationship between predicted digestible flows and NPA. Overall, this study indirectly confirms, across EAA, smaller losses through gut metabolism for His, Met, and Lys, intermediate losses for the branched-chain AA with the higher losses for Thr.  相似文献

Granular S, finely-ground S, iron sulphate and aluminium sulphate were added at two rates to the surface (0–6 cm) of a soil and acidification and leaching of nutrients were measured over 12 months in a laboratory study. Iron and aluminium sulphate both rapidly lowered soil pH in the top 0–6 cm of the soil. There was little difference in soil pH after 3 and 12 months reaction of these two amendments. In contrast, for granular S and finely-ground S there were clear decreases in soil pH between 3 and 12 months reaction with the soil. Finely-ground S was oxidized in the soil faster than granular S and therefore had a more acidifying effect. The top 0–6 cm of the soil was acidified by all the agents used but the deeper soil was less affected. The only treatments which lowered the pH of the 12–18 cm layer below pH 6 were the high rates of iron and aluminium sulphate. Soil acidification resulted in a decrease in exchangeable Ca, Mg and K, an increase in exchangeable Al and a decrease in effective CEC in the acidified soil layers.At both levels of addition, total ionic strength of percolates from the soil followed the order: aluminium sulphate = iron sulphate > finely gound S > granular S > control and was higher at the higher rate of addition. The pH values of percolates followed the order: control > granular S > finely ground S > iron sulphate = aluminium sulphate and were lower at the higher rate of addition. For the amended soils there was a very close relationship between the pattern and total amounts of SO 4 2- and Ca2+ leached.It was concluded that granular S is not an effective acidifying agent since it is oxidized very slowly in the soil and that acidfying agents should be incorporated to the depth that acidification is required.  相似文献

The influence of anthropogenic processes on global material flow systems increasingly dominates the influence of natural processes. In this context, the provision of detailed knowledge on material flow systems is relevant for decision makers in resource policy. This information can be provided in the form of one-year material balances or, if repeated over a period of consecutive years, in the form of national resource budgets. In national resource budgets, all relevant flows of a material through a national economy are balanced and displayed in neatly arranged diagrams. By updating these material balances over a series of years, the development of material stocks can be estimated. Upcoming challenges both regarding supply and disposal of materials can be identified. Comprehensive balances are useful for decision makers in resource policy and, moreover, as an information basis for future exploitation of anthropogenic resources. However, both availability of data and possibilities for assessing the reliability of data are very limited. In this work, a methodology for investigating and evaluating the information basis of national resource budgets is presented. The methodology includes procedures for systematic characterization of resource budget data and formal procedures for evaluating their reliability. From a scientific perspective, the methodology contributes to understanding material flow systems better. It also enables implementing procedures towards national resource budgets in an administrative context.  相似文献

Freshness of common mushrooms was related to the internal atmosphere composition during modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) experiments at 20 °C and 80% RH with stretchable polyvinylchloride (PVC) film, paper, and the same paper coated with a wheat gluten solution. MAP with the stretchable film led to a detrimental deterioration of mushrooms after only one day of storage: dark brown blotches appeared and almost 30% of mushrooms exhibited open veil. This was due to the formation of condensed water at the inner surface of the material and onto mushrooms combined to a high O2 partial pressure (16 kPa) in the headspace. Wheat gluten (WG) coated paper was the most effective to improve the shelf-life of mushrooms since it allowed the preservation of a fair colour, unbroken veils, and an acceptable texture during 3 days. This beneficial effect was attributed to the combination of a medium CO2 (9.5 kPa) and low O2 (2.5 kPa) partial pressure, without condensation. The main drawback of using WG-coated paper was its high water vapour permeability that led to an important weight loss (3.8 wt.% on day 3). However it did not affect the overall quality of mushrooms within the storage duration.

Industrial relevance

Even with the development of micro-perforated materials that provide the largest range of O2 and CO2 permeability values, several limitations are still encountered for synthetic MAP applications such as
– an insufficient perm-selectivity ratio that remains lower than 6 (value of 1 for micro-perforated material): generated atmosphere cannot reach both low O2 and low CO2 partial pressures and then are not adapted to CO2-sensitive fresh produces.
– unattractive water condensation at the inner surface of the packaging that might occur due to a low water vapour permeability, favouring the development of microorganisms.
– their non biodegradability.
Previous studies reported a high selectivity ratio and a high water vapour permeability for biodegradable materials made from crops proteins (wheat gluten, for instance) that appeared well adapted for fresh fruits and vegetables preservation. However, despite low cost and such interesting functional properties, these materials exhibited poor mechanical properties and cannot be used as packaging material. Combination with other materials, such as cellulosic fibres, appeared to one way to get round this major drawback without losing its biodegradability. Indeed paper exhibits an environmental-friendliness potential (recyclability, sustainability, biodegradability, and compostability) and a high versatility in food packaging.By choosing common mushrooms, known to be sensitive to high CO2 content, and a stretchable PVC film, commonly used to over-wrap mushrooms in tray (on European market), we demonstrate that this material was greatly less effective than a new biobased material (wheat gluten film coated onto paper) developed in collaboration with Smurfit Worldwide Research Center. This work confirms the interest in developing functionalised paper based packaging material with agro-based polymers adapted to the storage of fresh fruits and vegetable storage in ambient temperature.  相似文献

We present an unusual case of polydactyly of the thumb. The patient, despite having a fully developed nail bed, had a duplication at the metacarpophalangeal level consisting of a single bony phalanx. The Wassel classification of polydactyly, which is the most commonly cited classification scheme, does not include this particular anomaly.
