Elevated thoracic temperature increases the wingbeat frequency of flying locusts. We investigated the extent to which temperature-induced changes in resting membrane potential and postsynaptic potential amplitude contribute to the effects of increased temperature on the frequency of the central flight rhythm. Flight neurons were hyperpolarized by changing the K+ concentration of the superfusing saline from 10 mM to 2 mM. 5 min of low-K+ superfusion hyperpolarized flight motoneurons from -42.8 mV to -50.1 mV with a concomitant decrease of the frequency of the central flight rhythm from 11.6 Hz to 10.5 Hz. The amplitude of postsynaptic potentials was halved after 10 min of zero Ca2+/high Mg2+ superfusion, but the frequency of the central rhythm did not change significantly. GABAergic inhibitory connections were reduced in amplitude using picrotoxin. This treatment increased the frequency of the central rhythm from 11.6 Hz to 12.9 Hz, and increased the thermosensitivity of the rhythm frequency. We conclude that the excitatory effect of increased temperature on rhythm frequency is not mediated by temperature effects on membrane potential and/or synaptic potential amplitude. We propose that the inhibitory effect of temperature-induced hyperpolarization of the membrane potential compensates for the excitatory effect of temperature on rhythm frequency (e.g. via increased conduction velocity). We further suggest that some measure of temperature compensation is afforded by equal effects on the amplitudes of excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials, such that the net effect on the level of excitation is zero. 相似文献

The course of two neonates and one 4-month-old infant with laboratory and clinical evidence of central hypothyroidism is described. All three presented with failure to thrive and improved after L-T4 therapy. Early recognition and treatment of newborns and infants with central hypothyroidism is important to maximize the potential for growth and development. We describe the model of the hippocampus consisting of interactive oscillators with input from the entorhinal cortex (modulating the main information flow by a theta rhythm) and the septum (a theta rhythm generator). When interconnections between oscillators are allowed to strengthen in an adaptive way, the network can be trained using a series of lessons. This results in a connection matrix that memorizes the temporal sequence of inputs. Presenting one of the lessons to the trained network results in reproduction of the remainder of the sequence. Excretion was studied of catecholamines and diphenilamine (DOPA) in 310 patients with carcinoma of the stomach and large intestine and 43 patients with non-malignant diseases. The oncological patients showed decrease in activity of the mediator link of the sympathoadrenal system (SAS) as well as its reserves but there was no association with sex, age, location or histological structure. Three types of SAS functioning were identified, such as compensation, overstrain and emaciation. Surgical intervention led to activation of the hormonal link and exhaustion of the system's reserves. Two kinds of sympathoadrenal response to stress were described--adequate and inadequate. In the former type, phases of stress remain as they are, unchanged, as are time periods of formation thereof, while under the latter one time periods of the phases formation or formation thereof get disordered. 相似文献

Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) channels are multifunctional sensory molecules that are abundant in the skin and are involved in the sensory pathways of itch, pain, and inflammation. In this review article, we explore the complex physiology of different TRP channels, their role in modulating itch sensation, and their contributions to the pathophysiology of acute and chronic itch conditions. We also cover small molecule and topical TRP channel agents that are emerging as potential anti-pruritic treatments; some of which have shown great promise, with a few treatments advancing into clinical trials—namely, TRPV1, TRPV3, TRPA1, and TRPM8 targets. Lastly, we touch on possible ethnic differences in TRP channel genetic polymorphisms and how this may affect treatment response to TRP channel targets. Further controlled studies on the safety and efficacy of these emerging treatments is needed before clinical use. 相似文献

Electrospun fibers of poly[(9,9‐dioctylfluorenyl‐2,7‐diyl)‐co‐bithiophene] (F8T2) with exceptional electro‐optical performance are obtained. The I/T characteristics measured in fibers with 7–15 µm diameter and 1 mm length show a semiconductor behavior; their thermal activation energy is 0.5 eV and the dark conductivity at RT is 5 × 10?9 (Ω cm)?1. Besides exhibiting a photosensitivity of about 60 under white light illumination with a light power intensity of 25 mW · cm?2, the fibers also attain RT photoluminescence in the cyan, yellow, and red wavelength range under ultraviolet, blue, and green light excitation, respectively. Optical microscope images of F8T2 reveal homogeneous electrospun fibers, which are in good agreement with the uniformly radial fluorescence observed.

This work reports the development of a novel class of affinity co-polymeric materials using supercritical fluid technology. Polymeric materials with molecular recognition to flufenamic acid, were first synthesized in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) using the drug as template. Molecularly imprinted co-polymers of methacrylic acid (MAA) or N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAAm) crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) were synthesized using different crosslinking degrees and template:monomer ratios, at 65 °C and 21 MPa. High-pressure NMR experiments confirmed that the nature of the interactions between the drug and the functional monomers during the polymerization step are mainly hydrogen bonds. scCO2-assisted impregnation revealed that the imprinted matrices were able to uptake higher amounts of flufenamic acid. This effect was particularly evidenced in the more crosslinked matrices, with P(MAA-EGDMA) imprinted copolymers binding up to 101.5 mg drug/g polymer against only 50.5 mg/g in the non-imprinted copolymer. In vitro drug delivery experiments showed that imprinted co-polymers release the drug in a more sustained way than the corresponding non-imprinted matrices. Overall it was shown that supercritical fluid technology is a viable approach for the development of self-assembly molecular recognition polymers with potential application in controlled drug delivery systems. 相似文献
