Previous experimental and human data suggests a detrimental effect on the course of acute renal failure related to exposure of blood to artificial dialysis membranes of poor biocompatibility. We performed a 2.5-year prospective randomized trial to compare the clinical course of acute renal failure (post-operative ischemic acute tubular necrosis, ATN) in patients receiving a cadaveric renal transplant requiring supportive hemodialysis in the immediate post-transplant setting. Patients were randomized to either a cuprophane or polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) conventional hollow fiber dialyzer. All patients received a standard immunosuppressive regimen which included induction therapy with either horse anti-thymocyte gamma globulin (ATGAM) or the murine anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody (OKT3). Of 53 patients randomized, 17 were excluded (2 for intervening biopsy-proven rejection prior to recovery from ATN, 10 for primary graft nonfunction and 5 for other reasons), leaving 36 evaluable cases of uncomplicated ATN, 18 in each group. There was no difference by age, race, gender, cause of ESRD, immunosuppressive regimen, cold or warm ischemia time, use of pre-transplant dialysis, percent oliguria or the incidence of intra-dialytic hypotension between the 2 groups. There was no difference in the mean time to recovery from ATN posttransplant (8.9 days in the cuprophane group vs 9.5 days in the PMMA group, p = NS) or in the average number of hemodialysis treatments required (3.6 in both groups, p = NS). There was also no difference in long term allograft outcome in terms of the nadir serum creatinine, the number of episodes of subsequent acute rejection or in the development of chronic rejection. An intent-to-treat analysis of all 53 originally randomized patients similarly yielded no significant differences. A subsequent, non-randomized study using a membrane of intermediate biocompatibility (Hemophan) also showed no difference in recovery time from ATN. Bioincompatible membranes do not seem to have a significant clinical impact on the course of recovery of this form of acute renal failure. The striking benefits of biocompatibility in the course of ARF seen in other human trials may relate more to the non-renal systemic toxic effects of bioincompatibility. 相似文献

Liquid natural rubber of different molecular masses L‐LNR, and H‐LNR were subjected to varying degree of epoxidation (L‐ELNR‐10, L‐ELNR‐20, L‐ELNR‐30, L‐ELNR‐40, L‐ELNR‐50, H‐LNR‐20, and H‐LNR‐50) and the products were incorporated into PVC at various compositions by the solution blending method. These blend systems were subjected to tensile testing, tensile impact measurements, and SEM studies. It was observed that blends with L‐ELNR‐20 showed highest impact strength modification, followed by L‐ELNR‐10 and L‐ELNR‐30. High impact properties showed by these blends are attributed to the optimum level of compatibility existing between the blend components. Tensile impact fracture studies revealed that the failure pattern for this blend system is intermediate between the brittle fracture of rigid PVC and ductile fracture of PVC/L‐ELNR‐50 samples. Blends up to 30 mol % of epoxidation showed partially compatible heterogeneous nature exhibiting domain morphology. Blends of liquid rubber with higher degree of epoxidation showed deterioration in tensile strength, modulus, yield strength, and tensile impact strength due to plasticization of PVC caused by the higher polar interaction between PVC chains and the oxirane rings. Effect of ELNR molecular weight was studied and it is found that the impact modification is higher for the L‐ELNR blends compared to the H‐ELNR blends. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The rind of rambutan, which is normally discarded was found to contain extremely high antioxidant activity when assessed using several methods. Although having a yield of only 18%, the ethanolic rambutan rind extract had a total phenolic content of 762 ± 10 mg GAE/g extract, which is comparable to that of a commercial preparation of grape seed extract. Comparing the extract’s pro-oxidant capabilities with vitamin C, α-tocopherol, grape seed and green tea, the rind had the lowest pro-oxidant capacity. In addition, the extract at 100 μg/ml was seen to limit oxidant-induced cell death (DPPH at 50 μM) by apoptosis to an extent similar to that of grape seed. The extracts were not cytotoxic to normal mouse fibroblast cells or splenocytes while the powderised rind was seen to have heavy metals contents far below the permissible levels for nutraceuticals. Our study for the first time reveals the high phenolic content, low pro-oxidant capacity and strong antioxidant activity of the extract from rind of Nephelium lappaceum. This extract, either alone or in combination with other active principles, can be used in cosmetic, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications. 相似文献

This paper deals with design and development of a generative computer-aided process planning (CAPP) system for prismatic components
and named PSG-CAPP. The proposed CAPP system has been divided into three modules. The first module is concerned with feature
extraction. The second and third modules deal with planning the set-up, machine selection, cutting tool selection, cutting
parameter selection, and generation of process plan sheet. The whole CAPP system is developed using Visual Basic 6.0 as front
end and Oracle 7.3 as back end. The SolidWorks98 plus has been used for modelling, and feature extraction has been implemented
using a program written in Visual Basic 6.0. The speciality of the developed CAPP system is that it is linked with the CAD
module and it extracts the majority of features automatically prior to process planning. The developed CAPP system has been
tested with aerospace components. The main feature of the proposed CAPP system is its ability to handle a variety of prismatic
components and generate process plans for them. A case study has been included to highlight the potential of the CAPP system.

Performance assessment of PID and IMC tuning methods for a mixing process with time delay 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A flow process with time delay has been considered for modeling and control. A dilute solution of sodium chloride is used as tracer and an online conductivity measurement unit as sensor and recorder. The objective of the current study is to design control algorithms and present corresponding robust control analysis for the process. The control methodologies considered are (i) conventional PID control and (ii) internal model control (IMC). The control structures are comparatively analyzed using standard robustness measures for stability and performance. Of the two control algorithms, conventional PID and IMC, IMC exhibits faster settling time, no overshoot, better set-point tracking and disturbance rejection, and good robust performance than the PID control scheme. 相似文献

it achieves a performance ratio of (Δ+2)/3 for approximating independent sets in graphs with degree bounded by Δ. The analysis
yields a precise characterization of the size of the independent sets found by the algorithm as a function of the independence
number, as well as a generalization of Turán’s bound. We also analyze the algorithm when run in combination with a known preprocessing

In this work, we develop a continuous‐discrete shifted Rayleigh filter (CD‐SRF) and a continuous‐discrete sparse‐grid Gauss‐Hermite filter (CD‐SGHF) for a real‐life passive underwater bearings‐only target tracking problem. The stochastic difference equation describing the process model is derived from its continuous equivalent using Ito‐Taylor expansion of order 1.5. The performance of the proposed filters is compared in terms of root mean square error (RMSE), track divergence and computational time. For a fair comparison, popular filters like the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), cubature Kalman filter (CKF) and Gauss–Hermite filter (GHF) are implemented. The effect of initial uncertainty, measurement noise covariance and sampling time on filtering accuracy is also studied. Finally, RMSEs of all the filters are evaluated in comparison with the Cramer–Rao lower bound (CRLB). From simulation results, it was observed that CD filters performed with higher accuracy than their discrete equivalents, with CD‐SRF proving to be the most accurate among all the filters. 相似文献
