The spleen is involved in 20-30 percent of patients with Hodgkin's disease. Involvement of the spleen cannot be excluded with reliability by radiological procedures or clinical chemistry. Therefore laparotomy and splenectomy are recommended as staging and therapeutic measures. In the authors's material, splenectomy showed splenic lesions in 9 out of 21 patients, mostly unexpected. Splenectomy is always indicated in stage II and should be taken into consideration in individual cases of stages I and III, too.  相似文献

The operation conditions of a double pulsed field mass filter were studied using both experiment and simulation. The mass filter consists of two pairs of parallel plates and operates on the time-of-flight principle. The study showed that the ions' beam deflection angle is a critical factor in optimizing the mass filter transmission efficiency. This angle is dependent on the accelerating voltage, ion mass, and horizontal velocity of the ions. The optimum operating conditions for the mass filter were found and used to study the mass distribution of palladium ions produced by a magnetron sputtering source. The study shows that this mass filter is suitable for technological applications because of its high transmission and wide mass range.  相似文献

The conditioned rewarding effects of novelty compete with those of cocaine for control over choice behavior using a place conditioning task. The purpose of the present study was to use multiple doses of cocaine to determine the extent of this competition and to determine whether novelty’s impact on cocaine reward was maintained over an abstinence period. In Experiment 1, rats were conditioned with cocaine (7.5, 20, or 30 mg/kg ip) to prefer one side of an unbiased place conditioning apparatus relative to the other. In a subsequent phase, all rats received alternating daily confinements to the previously cocaine paired and unpaired sides of the apparatus. During this phase, half the rats had access to a novel object on their initially unpaired side; the remaining rats did not receive objects. The ability of novelty to compete with cocaine in a drug free and cocaine challenge test was sensitive to cocaine dose. In Experiment 2, a place preference was established with 10 mg/kg cocaine and testing occurred after 1, 14, or 28 day retention intervals. Findings indicate that choice behaviors mediated by cocaine conditioning are reduced with the passing of time. Hydrogel coatings prepared from reactive star shaped polyethylene oxide based prepolymers (NCO-sP(EO-stat-PO)) minimize unspecific protein adsorption in vitro, while proteins immobilized on NCO-sP(EO-stat-PO) coatings retain their structure and biological function. The aim of the present study was to assess biocompatibility and the effect on early osseointegrative properties of a NCO-sP(EO-stat-PO) coating with additional RGD-peptides and augmentation with bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP) used on a medical grade high-density polyethylene (HDPE) base under in vivo circumstances. For testing of biocompatibility dishes with large amounts of bulk NCO-sP(EO-stat-PO) were implanted subcutaneously into 14 Wistar rats. In a second set-up functionalization of implants with ultrathin surface layers by coating ammonia-plasma treated HDPE with NCO-sP(EO-stat-PO), functionalization with linear RGD-peptides, and augmentation with RGD and BMP-4 was analyzed. Therefore, implants were placed subcutaneously in the paravertebral tissue and transcortically in the distal femur of another 14 Wistar rats. Both tests revealed no signs of enhanced inflammation of the surrounding tissue analyzed by CD68, IL-1ß-/TNF-α-antibody staining, nor systemic toxic reactions according to histological analysis of various organs. The mean thickness of the fibrous tissue surrounding the femoral implants was highest in native HDPE-implants and tended to be lower in all NCO-sP(EO-stat-PO) modified implants. Micro-CT analysis revealed a significant increase of peri-implant bone volume in RGD/BMP-4 coated samples. These results demonstrate that even very low amounts of surface bound growth factors do have significant effects when immobilized in an environment that retains their biological function. Hence, NCO-sP(EO-stat-PO)-coatings could offer an attractive platform to improve integration of orthopedic implants.  相似文献

To assess the fruit-specific determinants of pericarp browning, litchi pericarp was characterized in terms of appearance, the polyphenol pattern as specified by HPLC-DAD-MS n without and after thiolysis, and the activities of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD) by exploring “Kwang Jao,” “O-Hia,” “Kim Cheng,” and “Chacapat” fruit on the respective harvest day, “Hong Huey” fruit also throughout 52 days of cold storage (5 °C, 95% relative humidity). At harvest, PPO activity was maximum for “Kim Cheng” pericarp (126 μkat/hg), whereas POD activity was striking for that of “O-Hia” (512 μkat/hg, including membrane-bound isoforms). Flavan-3-ol and proanthocyanidin patterns were consistent for all cultivars. However, cultivars with sharp-pointed and round–obtuse protuberances differed in pericarp anthocyanin and flavonol glycosylation patterns. The molar ratio of cyanidin 3-O-rutinoside to its glucoside was ≤6:1 for “Hong Huey” and “Kwang Jao,” but ≥43:1 for “Kim Cheng” and “Chacapat” pericarp. Long-term storage gave evidence of two key processes involved in pericarp browning: (1) PPO-mediated oxidation of abundant (?)-epicatechin (1.4–2.0 g/hg), resulting in dark brown pigments, and (2) microcrack-induced formation of light brown surface scurf, supposably with involvement of POD. Accordingly, an improved scheme for litchi pericarp browning was proposed. As regards recommendable postharvest concepts for each cultivar, “Chacapat” suited most for long-distance transports due to its overall low susceptibility to pericarp browning. Properties of “O-Hia” litchi, being prone to surface scurf formation, suggested preferred distribution via domestic markets. High contents of flavonols (e.g., quercetin glycosides, 166 mg/hg) and A-type-linked procyanidins (e.g., procyanidin A2, 1,092 mg/hg) qualified pericarp of “Hong Huey” litchi as raw material for polyphenol extracts exerting antioxidant properties.  相似文献

Simple, economical hardware based on incoherent space-frequency analysis overcomes many drawbacks associated with coherent optical systems. We have adopted this technique in developing a compact camera unit that uses a liquid-crystal light modulator for data input. This optically addressable camera system can automate a variety of visual inspection tasks.
