In this paper a procedure based on the hypersingular element method is applied to find the TE and TM modes in arbitrarily shaped waveguides. To show the accuracy of this method, various examples are solved and the results are compared to those analytical, when there is an analytical solution, and those presented in the literature. The proposed method did not present spurious modes, and in all the examples presented showed excellent results considering a reasonable number of elements in the boundary.  相似文献

Summary Samples of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), poly(ethylene terephthalate-co-naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylate) (PENT) and poly(ethylene naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylate) (PEN), materials which find application in textile and packaging industry, have been investigated, with the aim to obtain narrow molecular weight fractions suitable for further characterization. Preliminary results concerning with the fractionation of gram-quantities of the polyesters are reported, using a method based on the fractional precipitation from a phenol/1,2,4-thrichlorobenzene solution of the polymer, using n-heptane as non-solvent. Obtained fractions have been characterized by intrinsic viscosity measurements and Gel Permeation Chromatography analysis.  相似文献

Summary It was shown in experiments carried out under anaerobic conditions that the fixation of gossypol in cottonseed oil is a reaction of the second order with respect to gossypol. In other words, the rate of fixation is proportional to the square of the gossypol concentration in the oil. The rate of fixation is temperature-dependent and increases 22-fold with an increase in temperature from 40° to 80°C. In search for an organic material suitable for the detection of near-infrared electromagnetic radiation and at the same time capable of air stable operation of related devices, so to address the many applications envisaged with this technology (remote control, chemical/biological sensing, optical communication, spectroscopic and medical instruments), we explore the performance of a blend of hydrazone end-capped symmetric squaraines and phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester. We succeed in developing air stable solution-processed devices with external quantum efficiency in the NIR as high as 3.5% and response times of few hundreds of nanoseconds. Essential to these achievements has been a detailed characterization of the devices performed by correlating the optoelectronic performances to the morphology of the layers (extracted from AFM measurements) and to the charge carrier mobility (extracted from transistor structures), enabling their optimization at the chemical level, by tailoring the squaraine substitution pattern, and at the device level, by tuning the blend composition. We show that a good balance between holes and electrons mobility is essential for high EQE and fast response speed, and that a smooth morphology is mandatory to achieve long term air stability and operability with no need for encapsulation.  相似文献

The study of the adhesion mechanisms of pathogens to host tissues has gained increased interest as bacterial adhesion is involved in the early stages of surface colonization and infection. Here we describe a platform to study the specific binding of the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli) K‐12 strain to molecularly well‐defined surfaces mimicking cellular interfaces. This approach uses a poly(ethylene glycol) brush interface, which displays synthetic determinants of the high mannose N‐linked glycans in a range of densities (3.8 × 104–1.6 × 105 mannosides µm?2) for the investigation of multivalent interactions with bacteria. The bacterial attachment is mediated by specific interactions between the adhesive protein FimH located on the tip of the bacterial type 1 pili and the mannosylated surfaces. With synthetically engineered mannoses, it is found that the number of strongly adhering bacteria is co‐regulated by many structural physical parameters. Beyond the dependency on carbohydrate density, higher numbers of E. coli attach to the branched trimannose Man(α1–3)(Man(α1–6))Man compared to the monomannose, while larger oligomannoses exposing Man(α1–2) Man at their non reducing end show low binding capacity. The linker used between the mannose moiety and PEG is also affecting the binding efficacy of E. coli. The (hydrophobic) propyl linker results in higher bacteria numbers in comparison to the (hydrophilic) tri(EG), likely a consequence of additional stabilization of the binding complex by hydrophobic interactions. Furthermore, differences are observed in bacteria attachment between stagnant and flow conditions that depend on the type of mannose ligand. Finally, a photolithographic resist lift‐off combined with site‐selective assembly of the glycopolymers is used to produce micropatterns with bacteria colonies confined to defined areas and at controlled colony numbers.  相似文献

Hydrothermal carbonization of sewage sludge was carried out with the aim to evaluate the influence of process severity and initial solid content. Response surface methodology was applied to model yield and C yield responses. Enhanced dewaterability performance was recorded under mild processing conditions. The treatment promoted concentration and immobilization of Pb, Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu. Variation of the solid content showed a stronger influence than severity on average yield and C yield. Higher heating values (HHVs) and energy retention efficiencies (EREs) of hydrochars obtained at the lowest solid content displayed the lowest values. Hence, the energy requirements of a first dewatering step should be compared with the related improvement in terms of HHV and ERE when sludge is used as feedstock.  相似文献

The thermal behavior of pure ZrO2 and four ZrO2-based organic-inorganic hybrids (OIHs) containing increasing amount (6, 12, 24 and 50?wt%) of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) (named Z, ZP6, ZP12, ZP24 and ZP50 respectively) has been studied by simultaneous thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The FTIR analysis of the gas mixture evolved at defined temperatures from the samples submitted to the TG experiments identified the mechanism of each thermally activated process. The obtained results suggest that the inorganic matrix of the OIHs prepared by this method exerts a stabilizing effect on the polymer, in particular for poor-PCL hybrid materials. In fact, the different thermal behavior of the ZP50 sample suggests that the polymer is not entirely bonded to the -OH groups of the zirconia matrix due to their saturation. For this reason a part of PCL is not affected by the stabilizing effect of the matrix and is subjected to thermal degradation. Finally, by observing their thermal behavior it was possible to select the most suitable temperatures for thermal pretreatment: 400, 600 and 1000?°C. The structural analysis by X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed that at 400?°C the materials are amorphous, while at 600?°C they are mostly tetragonal, and the content of the tetragonal phase decreases with increasing the amount of PCL in the OIHs. All the materials treated at 1000?°C are monoclinic, but their crystallinity decreases with increasing the PCL content.  相似文献
