Raising awareness of psychology in physicians through a web-based self-change program.

Physicians, with their influence on many patients, could be key players in helping to make psychology a household word. The MD Health e-Coach Web site was created to help physicians improve their own health and expose them to a biopsychosocial model of health. The authors discuss the site itself, the creation of the multidisciplinary research team, physician reaction, and their plans to further expand the site to a larger sample of physicians and other occupational groups. By using the site, physicians experientially learn the benefits of psychologically driven health interventions and, the authors argue, are then more likely to be open to psychosocial interventions with patients. A Model for Shear Degradation of Lithium Soap Grease at Ambient Temperature

In this article, the shear degradation of lithium 12-hydroxy stearate grease will be measured using an in-house-developed Couette aging machine. In this device the shear rate is well defined. The aging is related to the generated entropy density as described in Rezasoltani and Khonsari's work (Tribology Letters, Vol. 56, No. 2, pp. 197–204, 2014). The rheological properties of the aged samples were evaluated using a parallel-plate rheometer. The results showed that there are two aging phases with different degradation rates: a progressive degradation phase at the early stage, followed by a rather slow deterioration afterwards. Based on this observation, an aging equation was formulated to describe the aging behavior of lithium-thickened grease. Atomic force microscopy results of the fresh and aged greases showed that the variation in thickener microstructure provides a good explanation for the lithium grease degradation mechanism: under shear, the original fibrous network is progressively destroyed and becomes fragmented, leading to the loss of consistency and a change in the rheological properties.

Effect of bed height and use of hands on trunk angular velocity during the sit-to-stand transfer

The ability to rise from a chair or bed is critical to an individual's quality of life because it determines functional independence. This study was to investigate the effect of bed height and use of hands on trunk angular velocity and trunk angles during the sit-to-stand (STS) performance. Twenty-four older persons (median age 74 years) were equipped with a body-fixed gyroscopic sensor and stood up from a bed adjusted to different heights, with and without the use of hands at each height. Peak angular velocity and trunk range of motion decreased with increasing bed height (all p ≤ 0.038) and were lower using hands during STS transfer indicating less effort. In conclusion, gyroscopic sensor data of the STS transfer of older persons show differences as an effect of bed height and use of hands. These results provide the rationale for recommending a relatively high bed height for most of the older persons.

The forecasting model based on modified SVRM and PSO penalizing Gaussian noise

The ε-insensitive loss function has no penalizing capability for white (Gaussian) noise from training series in support vector regression machine (SVRM). To overcome the disadvantage, the relation between Gaussian noise model and loss function of SVRM is studied. And then, a new loss function is proposed to penalize the Gaussian noise in this paper. Based on the proposed loss function, a new ν-SVRM, which is called g-SVRM, is put forward to deal with training set. To seek the optimal parameters of g-SVRM, an improved particle swarm optimization is also proposed. The results of application in car sale forecasts show that the forecasting approach based on the g-SVRM model is effective and feasible, the comparison between the method proposed in this paper and other ones is also given, which proves this method is better than ν-SVRM and other traditional methods.
