BACKGROUND: Combination chemotherapy consisting of methotrexate, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisolone, and bleomycin (MACOP-B) has been frequently used for the treatment of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This randomized study was undertaken to assess the efficacy and toxicity of this regimen when either doxorubicin or epirubicin was used as the anthracycline drug. METHODS: Between April 1989 and December 1993, 211 previously untreated patients with intermediate grade and high grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma were randomized to receive either doxorubicin (n=106) or epirubicin (n=105) with the MACOP-B regimen. These patients were followed through December 1996. Numerous clinical features predictive of response and survival were analyzed. Cardiac and noncardiac toxicity in the two treatment arms were compared. RESULTS: The median age of the patients was 48 years. Complete remission was experienced by 122 patients (58.3%); 62 patients (58.5%) achieved complete remission in the doxorubicin arm and 60 (58.1%) in the epirubicin arm. Response rates, time to treatment failure, relapse data, and overall survival were comparable between the two arms. Morbidity due to mucositis, vomiting, peripheral neuropathy, and cardiotoxicity were also comparable. The overall mortality was 10%. Mortality due to neutropenic sepsis was considerably higher among patients who received epirubicin (10 patients) than among those who received doxorubicin (5 patients). Cardiac evaluation revealed no difference in toxicity between the two arms. CONCLUSIONS: Epirubicin was as effective as doxorubicin in terms of patients' responses to therapy. There was no difference in cardiotoxicity between the two treatment arms. However, in this study, the mortality due to neutropenic sepsis was significantly higher among patients treated with epirubicin. 相似文献

Incremental forms of Schapery’s model: convergence and inversion to simulate strain controlled ramps
Schapery’s nonlinear viscoelastic model is written in incremental form, and three different approximations of nonlinearity functions in the time increment are systematically analysed with respect to the convergence rate. It is shown that secant slope is the best approximation of the time shift factor, leading to significantly higher convergence rate. This incremental form of the viscoelastic model, Zapas’ model for viscoplasticity, supplemented with terms accounting for damage effect is used to predict inelastic behaviour of material in stress controlled tests. Then the incremental formulation is inverted to simulate stress development in ramps where strain is the input parameter. A comparison with tests shows good ability of the model in inverted form to predict stress–strain response as long as the applied strain is increasing. However, in strain controlled ramps with unloading, the inverted model shows unrealistic hysteresis loops. This is believed to be a proof of the theoretically known incompatibility of the stress and strain controlled formulations for nonlinear materials. Previous research has shown a potential bottleneck of communication of information between the sonar controller (SOC) and operations officer (OPSO) in submarine sound and control rooms. This research aimed to see if this bottleneck could be removed by co-locating the sound and control room teams. Further, it also looked at the effects of reducing the crew numbers. Ten teams preformed the return to periscope depth tasks during high and low demand in a simulated submarine control room. Activities and communications of the teams were recorded and compared with data from a baseline condition of contemporary operations. The findings show that the co-location of the sound room and control room teams relieved the bottleneck of communications between the SOC and OPSO. Although communications increased, this was more balanced across team members and more relative to operational demand. This was coupled with more efficient task completion, resulting in greater number of tasks being completed by the command teams. Reduced crewing led to greater communications between the remaining members of the team together with task shedding in the higher demand condition. Future research should contrast these findings with objective measures of task performance to better understand potential performance benefits. 相似文献

An instrument for on-chip measurement of transceiver transmission capability is described that is fully realizable in CMOS technology and embeddable within an SoC. The instrument can be used to inject and extract the timing and voltage information associated with signals in high-speed transceiver circuits that are commonly found in data communication applications. At the core of this work is the use of ΣΔ amplitude- and phase-encoding techniques to generate both the voltage and timing (phase) references, or strobes used for high-speed sampling. Using a fractat model, we give a new interpretation of the reversed sigmoidal curves of fracture surface profile length obtained in some experiments. It is pointed out that a single parameter (fractal dimension D) is not sufficient to characterize a fractal curve completely. It is shown that the initiator length L0 is also important to characterize a fractal curve. We have derived a formula which correlate the fracture energy with the fractal parameters of the fracture surfaces and analyzed some experimental data. 相似文献

Electrochemical pre-treatment of industrial wastewater to remove refractory and/or toxic organic components, making them more
amenable to biological treatment, is likely to be more cost-effective than using a physical or chemical process for complete
organic removal. This paper demonstrates the use of a carbon-based adsorbent material that preferentially removes chlorinated
organic compounds. Electrochemical regeneration of the adsorbent is shown to be a quick, easy and cheap process, because the
adsorbent is both highly electrically conducting and non-porous. High regeneration rates over a number of cycles were obtained
by passing a charge of 25 C g−1 through a bed of adsorbent particles, at a current density of 20 mA cm−2 for 10 min. The energy required to remove a kg of COD from an industrial wastewater was calculated to be 27 kWh. 相似文献

Cross-linking polymerization of acrylic acid in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) was studied in a batch reactor at 50 °C and 207 bar with either triallyl pentaerythritol ether or tetraallyl pentaerythritol ether as the cross-linker and with 2,2′-azobis(2,4-dimethyl-valeronitrile) as the free radical initiator. All polymers were white, dry, fine powders. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the morphology of the polymer particles was not affected by cross-linking. As the cross-linker concentration was increased, the polymer glass transition temperature first decreased, then increased. Water-soluble and water-insoluble polymers were synthesized by adjusting the cross-linker concentration. Viscosity measurements showed that the polymer thickening effect strongly depended on the degree of cross-linking. Finally, cross-linking polymerization of acrylic acid in scCO2 was carried out in a continuous stirred tank reactor. The use of cross-linker decreased the monomer conversion in this system. 相似文献
