The clinical consequences of single or multiple exposure of pregnant gilts to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) at various stages of gestation were determined. Thirty-three pregnant gilts were allotted to 6 experimental groups (5 to 7 gilts/group). Gilts of groups 1 to 5 were exposed to strain NADC-8 of PRRSV at the following times: group 1, gestation day (GD) 1; group 2, GDs 1 and 90; group 3, GD 30; group 4, GDs 30 and 90; group 5, GD 90. Virus exposure was by either intrauterine (GD 1) or oronasal (GDs 30 and 90) inoculation. Gilts of group 6 were kept as nonexposed controls. Gilts were either necropsied on or about GD 111 (groups 1 to 5) or were allowed to farrow (group 6). The detection of PRRSV in serum of fetuses and piglets (within 12 hof birth) was considered evidence of transplacental infection. Transplacental infection and virus-induced death were and were not confirmed for groups 3, 4, and 5 and for groups 1, 2, and 6, respectively. Collectively, the results indicated that intrauterine exposure to PRRSV at GD 1 was without clinical effect (groups 1 and 2) and provided protection against subsequent exposure to the same strain of virus at GD 90 (group 2). Current demographic trends in Canada include population aging and declining household growth. These trends generally result in falling housing demand and stable or declining house prices. Housing markets in Canada's major cities, however, have been characterized by increases in demand and prices in recent years; due in large part to the influence of arriving immigrants. The destinations of 76 percent of international immigrants to Canada are the three global cities—Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal—where they have a very significant effect on housing demand, particularly as under current immigration policy many of those arriving come with considerable wealth. Their influence, however, is much broader and includes the growth of exclusive, prosperous immigrant neighbourhoods, new architectural designs and other neighbourhood changes. Not all immigrants, however, arrive with wealth. Many are poor, live in less attractive neighbourhoods and pay unrealistic amounts of their inadequate incomes for poor quality housing. This meta-analysis examines the influence of electronic communication media on group idea generation tasks. Data from the following three areas of the brainstorming literature are synthesized to assess differences across performance variables and group member satisfaction: (1) electronic brainstorming (EBS) groups versus traditional face-to-face (FTF) interacting groups, (2) EBS groups versus nominal groups, and (3) EBS versus electronic nominal (e-nominal) groups. The results of this integration show that EBS groups are more productive and more satisfied with the interaction process than FTF groups. Additionally, large EBS groups outperformed nominal groups, whereas small nominal groups outperformed EBS groups. These findings have important implications for electronic collaboration and teamwork in both academic and organizational settings, especially given the recent proliferation of virtual teamwork. 相似文献

The cyanide-ligated form of the baker's yeast cytochrome c peroxidase mutant bearing the mutation Asn82-->Ala82 ([N82A]CcPCN) has been studied by proton NMR spectroscopy. This mutation alters an amino acid that forms a hydrogen bond to His52, the distal histidine residue that interacts in the heme pocket with heme-bound ligands. His52 is a residue critical to cytochrome c peroxidase's normal function. Proton hyperfine resonance assignments have been made for the cyanide-ligated form of the mutant by comparison with 1-D and NOESY spectra of the wild-type native enzyme. For [N82A]CcPCN, proton NMR spectra reveal two significant phenomena. First, similar to results published for the related mutant [N82D]CcPCN [Satterlee, J. D., et al. (1994) Eur. J. Biochem. 244, 81-87], for Ala82 mutation disrupts the hydrogen bond between His52 and the heme-ligated CN. Second, four of the 24 resolved hyperfine-shifted resonances are doubled in the mutant enzyme's proton spectrum, leading to the concept that the heme active site environment is dynamically microheterogeneous on a very localized scale. Two magnetically inequivalent enzyme forms are detected in a pure enzyme preparation. Varying temperature causes the two enzyme forms to interconvert. Magnetization transfer experiments further document this interconversion between enzyme forms and have been used to determine that the rate of interconversion is 250 (+/- 53) s-1. The equilibrium constant at 20 degrees C is 1.5. Equilibrium constants have been calculated at various temperatures between 5 and 29 degrees C leading to the following values: delta H = 60 kJ mol-1; delta S = 0.20 kJ K-1 mol-1. 相似文献
