A detailed study was conducted on localized oxidation on Type 321 stainless steel (321ss) using synchrotron x-ray nanobeam analysis along with Raman microscopy. The results showed the presence of metallic nanonetworks in the oxide scales, which plays an important role in the continued oxidation of the alloy at 750 °C. A mechanism is proposed to explain the rapid oxidation of 321ss in complex gaseous environments at elevated temperature. Neutral metal atoms could diffuse outward, and carbon atoms could diffuse inward through the metallic nanonetworks in oxide layers. Alternately, diffusion tunnels can dramatically affect the phase composition of the oxide scales. Since the diffusion rate of neutral metal and carbon atoms through the metallic nanonetworks can be much faster than the diffusion of cations through Cr2O3, the metallic nanonetwork provides a path through the protective Cr2O3 layer for the rapid outward diffusion of metallic chromium and iron atoms to the nonprotective spinel layer. This diffusion process affects the solid-state reaction near the alloy-oxide boundary, and a dense Cr2O3 protective layer does not form. The classic stable structure of the oxide scales, with a dense Cr2O3 layer at the bottom, is damaged by the rapid diffusion through the tunnel at the reaction front, resulting in locally accelerated oxidation. This process can subsequently lead to “breakaway” oxidation and catastrophic failure of the alloy.  相似文献

Slow cooling of Sn-Ag-Cu and Sn-Ag-Cu-X (X = Fe, Co) solder-joint specimens made by hand soldering simulated reflow in surface-mount assembly to achieve similar as-solidified joint microstructures for realistic shearstrength testing, using Sn-3.5Ag (wt.%) as a baseline. Minor substitutions of either cobalt or iron for copper in Sn-3.7Ag-0.9Cu refined the joint matrix microstructure, modified the Cu6Sn5 intermetallic phase at the copper substrate/solder interface, and increased the shear strength. At elevated (150°C) temperature, no significant difference in shear strength was found in all of the alloys studied. Ambient temperature shear strength was reduced by largescale tin dendrites in the joint microstructure, especially by the coarse dendrites in solute poor Sn-Ag-Cu.  相似文献

The sintering kinetics of a pure magnesium aluminate spinel, MgAl2O4, and that doped with LiF were determined through the use of the master sintering curve technique developed by Su and Johnson. 20 Powders with 0%, 0.5%, and 1.0% by mass LiF were densified in a vacuum hot press under a range of unaxial pressures. After the sintering mechanisms in each temperature and pressure regime were determined, an optimized vacuum hot-pressing schedule was formulated for spinel powders doped with 1.0% by mass of LiF. In addition to forming a transient liquid phase, the presence of LiF leads to the formation of oxygen vacancies that promote late-stage sintering in MgAl2O4.  相似文献

Cotton/polyester fabric surfaces were modified using nanostructured organic‐inorganic polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) molecules via solution dip coating. Surface wetting characteristics of coatings prepared from two chemically and structurally different POSS molecules, a closed cage fluorinated dodecatrifluoropropyl POSS (FL‐POSS) and an open cage nonfluorinated trisilanolphenyl POSS (Tsp‐POSS), were evaluated with time and compared with Teflon. Surface analysis, including Atomic Force Microscopy, SEM/EDAX, and NMR revealed the presence of POSS aggregates on the fabric surface leading to a spiky topography, high roughness, and hysteresis. POSS coated fabrics showed complete reversal of surface wetting characteristics with contact angles higher than the benchmark Teflon surface. Water contact angle measured as a function of time showed equivalent or better performance for POSS‐coated surfaces in comparison to Teflon. Furthermore, FL‐POSS coated fabric exhibited exceptional stain and acid resistance along with a 38% reduction in relative surface friction. Additionally, “nonsliding” and high surface adhesion behavior of water droplets on the FL‐POSS coated fabric are reported. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

The viscosity of an optical fibre over 1000–1150 °C is studied by inscribing an optical fibre Bragg grating that can withstand temperatures up to 1200 °C and monitoring fibre elongation under load through the Bragg wavelength shift. This optical interrogation offers high accuracy and reliability compared with direct measurements of elongation, particularly at lower temperatures, thus avoiding significant experimental error. An excellent Arrhenius fit is obtained from which an activation energy for viscous flow of Ea = 450 kJ mol?1 is extracted; addition of an additional temperature-dependent pre-exponential does not change this value. The log plot of viscosity is found overall to be consistent with that reported in the literature for silica measurements on rods and beams, but substantially higher than past work reported for optical fibres. The annealing and strain temperatures for an optical fibre were derived as 1114 °C and 1010 °C. However, it is shown that, because regenerated gratings already involve a post-annealing process at higher temperature, the structures are equilibrated and much more relaxed compared with normal fibres, making viscosity measurements meaningful. This work highlights the need to stabilize components for operation in harsh environments before their application, despite some mechanical compromise. Given the increasing expectation of all-optical waveguide technologies operating >1000 °C, the need to study the behaviour of glass over the long term brings added significance to the basic understanding of glass in this regime.  相似文献

Understanding the global metabolic changes during the senescence of tumor cells can have implications for developing effective anti-cancer treatment strategies. Ionizing radiation (IR) was used to induce senescence in a human colon cancer cell line HCT-116 to examine secretome and metabolome profiles. Control proliferating and senescent cancer cells (SCC) exhibited distinct morphological differences and expression of senescent markers. Enhanced secretion of pro-inflammatory chemokines and IL-1, anti-inflammatory IL-27, and TGF-β1 was observed in SCC. Significantly reduced levels of VEGF-A indicated anti-angiogenic activities of SCC. Elevated levels of tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases from SCC support the maintenance of the extracellular matrix. Adenylate and guanylate energy charge levels and redox components NAD and NADP and glutathione were maintained at near optimal levels indicating the viability of SCC. Significant accumulation of pyruvate, lactate, and suppression of the TCA cycle in SCC indicated aerobic glycolysis as the predominant energy source for SCC. Levels of several key amino acids decreased significantly, suggesting augmented utilization for protein synthesis and for use as intermediates for energy metabolism in SCC. These observations may provide a better understanding of cellular senescence basic mechanisms in tumor tissues and provide opportunities to improve cancer treatment.  相似文献

For many applications avian antibody from egg yolk (IgY) offers advantages over the well-known mammalian antibodies. Different experimental techniques for the purification of IgY from chickens immunized with an alphagalactose-containing antigen (alphaGal-trisaccharide) were compared. These included ammonium sulfate precipitation, filtration with diatomaceous earth, treatment with deoxycholate, and thiophilic and affinity chromatography. Samples were tested for overall purity, protein and lipid content, and specific activity. Evaluated on the basis of these results and the simplicity of the process, the favored purification method is ammonium sulfate precipitation of diluted egg yolk directly followed by affinity chromatography. The high lipid content of IgY preparations is greatly reduced by either thiophilic or affinity chromatography. Affinity purification of ammonium sulfate precipitated material resulted in anti-alphaGal-trisaccharide IgY preparations with approximately 1% of the original protein content but approximately 100-fold higher specific activity for the alphaGal-trisaccharide epitope.  相似文献

High hydrostatic pressure has been demonstrated to be a useful technique for treating food to reduce the number of pathogenic organisms and to extend shelf life. Most research in this area has focused on bacteria. However, a concern in the sashimi (raw fish) industry is that nematode worms such as Anisakis simplex occur naturally in cold-water marine fish. The objectives of this research were to perform a pilot study to determine the effect of high hydrostatic pressure on the viability of Anisakis simplex larvae, commonly found in king salmon and arrowtooth flounder, and to evaluate the effects of high hydrostatic pressure on the color and texture of the fish fillets. Pieces of fish (ca. 100 g per bag) containing 13 to 118 larvae were exposed to pressures of up to 80,000 lb/in2 (552 MPa) for up to 180 s. The times and pressures required to kill 100% of the larvae were as follows: 30 to 60 s at 60,000 lb/in2 (414 MPa), 90 to 180 s at 40,000 lb/in2 (276 MPa), and 180 s at 30,000 lb/in2 (207 MPa). For all salmon treatments that killed 100% of the larvae, a significant increase in the whiteness of the flesh was observed. Although high hydrostatic pressure was effective in killing A. simplex larvae in raw fish fillets, its significant effect on the color and overall appearance of the fillet may limit its application to the processing of fish for raw-fish markets.  相似文献

A systematic and careful experimental study of the friction factor in the transition region for single-phase water flow in mini- and microtubes has been performed for 12 stainless-steel tubes with diameters ranging from 2083 μ m to 337 μ m. The pressure drop measurements were carefully performed by paying particular attention to the sensitivity of the pressure-sensing diaphragms used in the pressure transducer. Experimental results indicated that the start and end of the transition region were influenced by the tube diameter. The friction factor profile was not significantly affected for the tube diameters between 2083 μ m and 1372 μm. However, the influence of the tube diameter on the friction factor profile became noticeable as the diameter decreased from 1372 μ m to 337 μm. The Reynolds number range for transition flow became narrower with decreasing tube diameter.  相似文献
