The effect of upflow air velocity on the structure of aerobic granules cultivated in a sequencing batch reactor. 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
The effect of upflow air velocity on the formation and structure of aerobic granules was studied in three column sequencing batch reactors. Upflow aeration would be the major cause of hydrodynamic shear force in the column reactor. Results showed that high upflow air velocity resulted in more compact, denser, rounder, stronger and smaller aerobic granules, while high biomass retention in the reactor was achieved. It was found that high upflow air velocity could induce granular sludge to secrete more cell polysaccharides which in turn contributed to the compact and strong structure. The modified J-integral and the stress intensity factor based on linear elastic fracture mechanics can be applied to predict the growth of interfacial delamination in integrated circuit (IC) packages. One of the key parameters required is the interfacial fracture toughness. This paper describes the measurement of the interfacial fracture toughness as a function of temperature and relative humidity using a three-point bending test. The interfacial fracture toughness was found to decrease with temperature and relative humidity. It is proposed that delaminations propagate from very small voids or defects present at the interface. The effect of the location of these interfacial defects or cracks on delamination was studied. The IC package evaluated in this paper was an 80-pin quad flat package with a 0.2 mm defect or crack at the edge or at the center of the interface. It was found that as the temperature of the package was increased, the stress intensity factor of the edge crack was higher than that of the center crack. However, whether the edge crack will propagate first as temperature is increased depends on the ratio of mode II interface toughness to that of the mode I interface toughness. For the package under investigation, it was established that when this ratio is less than 2.69 the edge crack would propagate first, otherwise the center crack would. Effects of single, double, and rhythmic stimulation upon hypothalamic neurons responding to the 1st excitatory phase of lateral vestibular nucleus stimulation, were studied. The data obtained show that activation of some hypothalamic neurons following stimulation of the lateral vestibular nucleus has a monosynaptic character. The guanine nucleotide exchange factor Sos mediates the coupling of receptor tyrosine kinases to Ras activation. To investigate the mechanisms that control Sos activity, we have analyzed the contribution of various domains to its catalytic activity. Using human Sos1 (hSos1) truncation mutants, we show that Sos proteins lacking either the amino or the carboxyl terminus domain, or both, display a guanine nucleotide exchange activity that is significantly higher compared with that of the full-length protein. These results demonstrate that both the amino and the carboxyl terminus domains of Sos are involved in the negative regulation of its catalytic activity. Furthermore, in vitro Ras binding experiments suggest that the amino and carboxyl terminus domains exert negative allosteric control on the interaction of the Sos catalytic domain with Ras. The guanine nucleotide exchange activity of hSos1 was not augmented by growth factor stimulation, indicating that Sos activity is constitutively maintained in a downregulated state. Deletion of both the amino and the carboxyl terminus domains was sufficient to activate the transforming potential of Sos. These findings suggest a novel negative regulatory role for the amino terminus domain of Sos and indicate a cooperation between the amino and the carboxyl terminus domains in the regulation of Sos activity. 相似文献

The crude methanol extract of the Kenyan shrub Leucas volkensii Gürke (Labiatae) displayed in a radiorespirometric bioassay antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the crude extract led to the identification of (E)-phytol as the principal active component with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 2 micrograms/ml, a value also observed for (3R,S,7R,11R)-phytanol, (Z)-phytol, and a commercially available 2:1 mixture of (E)- and (Z)-phytol. The derivatives (E)-phytol acetate, a mixture of the (2S,3S)- and (2R,3R)-isomers of (E)-phytol epoxide and (3R,S,7R,11R)-phytanic acid displayed lower activities with MICs of 8, 16, and > 128 micrograms/ml, respectively. Geraniol and farnesol, displayed MICs of 64 and 8 micrograms/ml, respectively. The activities of (E)-phytol, (Z)-phytol and (3R,S,7R,11R)-phytanol were found to be in the same range as ethambutol, a clinically useful drug with an MIC in the range 0.95-3.8 micrograms/ml. 相似文献
