A 62-year-old female who had a complaint of palpitation was diagnosed as bicuspid aortic stenosis and left single coronary artery by the echocardiographic examination, cardiac catheterization study and coronary artery angiography. Aortic valve replacement was performed and the patient was discharged 22 days after surgery with good post-operative course. Nanoparticles have applications in various industrial fields principally in drug delivery. Nowadays, there are several processes for manufacturing colloidal polymeric systems and methods of preparation as well as of characterization. In this work, Dynamic Light Scattering and Atomic Force Microscopy techniques were used to characterize polyurethane nanoparticles. The nanoparticles were prepared by miniemulsion technique. The lipophilic monomers, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and natural triol, were emulsified in water containing surfactant. In some formulations the poly(ethylene glycol) was used as co-monomer to obtain the hydrophilic and pegylated nanoparticles. Polyurethane nanoparticles observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) were spherical with diameter around 209 nm for nanoparticles prepared without PEG. From AFM imaging two populations of nanoparticles were observed in the formulation prepared with PEG (218 and 127 nm) while dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements showed a monodisperse size distribution around 250 nm of diameters for both formulations. The polydispersity index of the formulations and the experimental procedures could influence the particle size determination with these techniques. 相似文献

All stable systems comprising as many as three mirrors are described and classified. Analysis of the part selection policy in the case of a flexible manufacturing cell producing different parts for several emanating lines is presented. The discrete response control problem is formulated as an undiscounted semi-Markovian decision problem whose decision epochs occur when the cell completes a part and must decide what type of part to fabricate next. Design objective is to minimize the expected shortage penalty per unit time incurred by the production lines when they run out of inputs. In sensory systems, insight into synaptic arrangements on cells of known physiological response properties has helped our understanding of the structural basis for these properties. To carry out these types of studies, however, synaptic types in the region of interest must be defined. Unfortunately, defining synaptic types in the brainstem has proved to be a challenging enterprise. Our study was done to classify synapses in the gustatory part of the nucleus solitarius using objective quantitative criteria and a cluster analysis procedure. Cluster analysis allows classification of a population of objects, such as synaptic terminals, into groups that exhibit similar characteristics. Six terminal types were identified using cluster analysis and subsequent analyses of variance and post hoc tests. Unlike classification schemes used for the cerebral cortex, where synaptic apposition density thickness and shape of vesicles is useful (Gray's Type I and II synapses), the concentration of vesicles in a terminal was a more useful measurement with which to classify terminals in the nucleus solitarius. To validate that vesicle density (vesicles/microm2) is a useful defining characteristic to classify terminals in the nucleus solitarius, terminals of a known type were used. GABAergic terminals were identified using postembedding immunohistochemical techniques, and their vesicle density was determined. GABAergic terminals fall into the range of two of the terminal types defined by the cluster analysis and, based on vesicle density, two types of GABAergic terminals were identified. At temperatures above 20K, the resistivity of ET is given by: ρab ρ0 + BT2. Below 20K, we found that the resisitivity falls significantly below ρ0. Resistance ratios ρ(300K)/ρ(2K) exceed several thousand and sometimes even exceed 104. The freezeout at temperatures just below the phonon frequency is a strong indication that the resisitivity above 20K is due to scattering by phonons. The T2 law is due to a very strong momentum-dependence of the velocity v(k), with a sharp peak at the Fermi level. This peak causes the residual resisitivity due to scattering by defects to become temperature-dependent and to diminish greatly at very low temperatures. These results resolve the mystery of the highly-anomalous behavior of the resistivity of organic metals, suggested by Heeger and Garito in 1973. We present an ab-initio theory accounting for the sharp velocity peak. The theory considers a low-density electron-gas imbedded in a highly-dispersive medium, ε0/ε∞ 20. This theory applies also to high-Tc cuprates, as well as to some other systems possessing a high dispersion. 相似文献

To understand the influence of the ascending path linking area 17 to area 18 of visual cortices, experiments were carried out in which a small neuronal population of area 17 was inactivated with GABA, while unitary responses were recorded in area 18. In the latter, cells are identified as belonging to the simple or complex family according to their firing pattern evoked in response to sine-wave gratings scrolling through the receptive fields. Anesthetized cats were prepared for single-cell recordings. In area 17, a GABA-containing pipette was placed in superficial layers in order to inactivate reversibly a small neuronal population. Prior to blockade, the orientation tuning curves were obtained in both areas and the difference in optimal orientation between areas 17 and 18 was recorded. In area 18, cells were classified as simple or complex. The strategy was to study the reaction of neurons in area 18 prior to, during and after area 17 depression. In most simple cells, whenever the difference in orientation was in the iso-range, that is when the difference in optimal orientations of the injected site (in area 17) and of the neuron in area 18 was less than 30 degrees, the GABA application produced a decline of the evoked discharges, whereas GABA injection augmented the evoked firing rate when the difference was in the cross-range (>60 degrees). In contrast to simple cells, GABA depression enhanced the responses in the majority of complex cells with like orientations in both areas. When the difference between recording sites was in the cross-range, then area 17 depression produced weaker evoked firing. A tangential penetration of the injecting pipette, allowing injection of different orientation sites while testing the same unit in area 18, revealed that the latter could react with an enhancement or a decline of the responses as the injecting pipette shifted from iso (or cross) to cross (or iso) disparity in optimal orientations between areas 17 and 18. These results suggest that the path connecting area 17 to area 18 may be functionally discriminated on the basis of the orientation domain and cell types. In addition, our data suggest that the ascending visual streams are required to generate orientation specificity in area 18. 相似文献

Between September 1994 and October 1995, we diagnosed and treated four cases of early onset posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) occurring within 62 days of pancreas transplantation. The development of PTLD was associated with both a significantly higher total muromonab-CD3 (OKT3) dose and a lack of ganciclovir/acyclovir prophylaxis, but it was not associated with the total dose of antithymocyte globulin or cytomegalovirus serostatus. All four patients were treated aggressively and survived without evidence of recurrent PTLD more than 1.5 years later. We conclude that the use of a high total dose of OKT3 puts pancreas transplant recipients at increased risk for early onset PTLD, while ganciclovir/acyclovir prophylaxis may help to prevent this disorder; however, if early onset PTLD does occur in these patients, aggressive therapy can lead to a favorable outcome. 相似文献
