Investigation of the metallography of plutonium,uranium and their alloys

This article gives a short outline of the main trends in investigations on the metallography of the nuclear fuels — plutonium, uranium and their alloys-being carried out in the USSR in connection with the creation and development of atomic energy.In addition to summarizing the properties of plutonium metal, the first section includes the rules governing the reactions of plutonium with other elements in relation to their position in the periodic table.A series of the properties of uranium and its behavior under cyclic heat-treatment and irradiation in relation to the alloying and thermal and mechanical processes used are examined in the second section. Pressure processing of uranium is likewise discussed.The third section deals with the effect of neutron radiation on the structure and properties of the metals and alloys.This review was compiled with the help of and using the data of many investigators.     

Discrete optimization by optimal control methods I. Separable problems

Two general solution schemes are designed for separable discrete optimization problems. Approximations from below and from above to the optimal value of the quality criterion are determined. These schemes are based on a unified theoretical base—sufficient conditions for the global optimal known in optimal control theory. Known and new methods for defining a resolving function, which is essential for applying these conditions, are described.     

Effect of hydroxylamine hydrochloride on the bacterium Shigella dysenteriae 1 and antigens isolated from them

A study was made into the functional status of hypophysis, adrenal cortex, ovaries, and thyroid gland in patients with kraurosis and leukoplakia vulvae. The above patients demonstrated profound disturbances in the system hypophysis-ovaries, that attest to the need for applying corrective therapies to treat the disturbed hormonal homeostasis.     

Nuclear Data Sheets for A=240

Detailed level and decay schemes and the experimental reaction and decay data on which they are based are presented for all nuclei with mass number A=240. The experimental data are evaluated. Adopted values for level and γ-ray energies, γ-intensities, as well as other nuclear properties are given.     

The secondary structure of amides of adenylic acid containing D- and L-aromatic amino acids

Adenylyl-(5'leads to N)-amino acids containing as amino components, methyl esters of D-, L- and DL-phenylalanine, D-, L- and DL-tyrosine, and D-, L- and DL-tryptophan have been investigated by proton magnetic resonance (PMR) spectroscopy and circular dichroism (CD). The temperature and pD dependences of proton chemical shifts of these compounds have been studied. These data, together with the magnitudes of the upfield chemical shifts of the PMR signals of adenine and aromatic amino acids residues in adenylyl-(5'leads to N)-amino acids, have enabled us to construct conformational models of these compounds. The proposed conformation has been substantiated by the CD results. It is shown that in adenylyl-(5'leads to N)-amino acids the planes of adenine and amino acid aromatic moieties are roughly parallel. The aromatic rings of phenylalanine and tyrosine are localized approximately above the centre of adenine. In adenylyl-(5'leads to N)-D, -(L)-tryptophan, the six-membered rings of the indole overlaps the five-membraned ring of adenine indole partially overlaps the six-membered ring of adenine. A difference in the non-covalent interactions of D- and L-amino acids with nucleotides has been revealed. The mutual localization of the aromatic systems of AMP and the amino acids and also the positions of -OCH3 group with respect to the centre of the amino acid aromatic moiety differs in the series of the studied nucleotide derivatives of D- and L-amino acids.
