A nuclear track etched polycarbonate membrane filter with numerous cylindrical nanopores was applied as a nanoporous template for growing metallic nanowires. Nickel, cobalt, and iron nanowires were electrodeposited into the cylindrical nanopores. Cathodic polarization curves were measured to determine an optimum condition for growing nanowires. The shape of nanowires was observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the crystal structure was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Diameter and length of nanowires corresponded to those of nanopores and each nanowire was composed of a single crystal. Anodized aluminum oxide films were also fabricated as a novel nanoporous template. The pore length and diameter was controlled changing anodizing conditions. Ordering behavior of nanopores array in an anodized aluminum oxide film was also investigated to make a novel nanoporous template with a highly ordered honeycomb array of nanopores. 相似文献

This paper proposes a mechanism that adjusts mechanical stiffness around a robot joint and utilizes whole elastic energy of an elastic element. The proposed mechanism consists of a lead screw mechanism, a linear spring, and wires. The lead screw mechanism moves a nut of the lead screw mechanism to change a bending point of the wire, which connects the linear spring and the lead screw mechanism. Then, moment arm and ratio of joint rotation to extension of the spring are varied. As a result, joint stiffness is adjusted. Because this mechanism does not apply tension to the spring for the stiffness adjustment, whole elastic energy of the spring can be utilized for joint rotation. This utilization can minimize weight and size of the elastic element. Additional advantages of the proposed mechanism are mechanical simplicity, wide range of adjustable stiffness, and no energy consumption for keeping constant stiffness. We analyze characteristics of the proposed mechanism and compare with other mechanisms in detail. Polymer blends of transparent poly(methyl methacrylate) and polystyrene become opaque due to light scattering at the boundaries of the two polymers. The polymer blend is light brown when it is illuminated by white light. The coloring depends on the spherical domain structures existing in the polymer blend. The coloring was analyzed by using the rigorous Mie theory. The Mie results were compared with the semiempirical results previously reported by the authors. The wavelength dependence of theoretical scattering efficiencies on radii of scattering spheres from 0.05 to 1.2 μm was obtained for polystyrene spheres in poly(methyl methacrylate) matrix, and vice versa. The scattering at the short wavelength region is stronger than at the long wavelength region. The scattering efficiencies become almost constant in the visible wavelength region for sufficiently large spheres. 相似文献

Alkali metal zeolites and metal oxides were used for the aldol condensation of n-butanal to 2-ethyl-2-hexenal. The order of activity at 150 °C and 1 atm. was: CsNaY > NaY > LiNaY > MgO >Al2O3. Selectivity to 2-ethyl-2-hexenal was 100% for both pure and mixed isomer feed. Infrared spectroscopic studies showed that stable catalysts were produced by propene pretreatments which blocked Lewis acid sites. Adsorption of ammonia and carbon dioxide on CsNaY during aldol condensation of n-butanal causes a decrease in rate. This result, along with the order of activity, suggests that the presence of both acid and basic sites produce higher activity than strongly basic MgO.Work performed at San Jose State University. 相似文献

This paper discusses high-speed impact damage in a three-dimensionally woven SiC/SiC composite (3D-CMC). The impact damage was introduced by a steel ball projectile in 3D-CMC plates with and without thermal exposure. The surface and internal damages were observed by optical microscopy and X-ray CT. A crater was observed on the collision surface. The X-ray CT measurement revealed that multiple pyramid-shaped cone cracks were generated beneath the crater when the impact speed was relatively low. At an impact speed exceeding the critical speed, a spall fragment was ejected from the back surface, while no internal damage was observed in the fragment. The spall fracture mode differed between the virgin and the thermally-exposed specimens. This difference is the result of embrittlement of the fiber/matrix interface due to oxidation of the carbon coating layer in the thermally-exposed specimen. Abstract— To understand actual viewing conditions at home is important for TV design. And the preferred luminance level of LCD TVs under actual viewing conditions is also important in order to obtain both good picture quality and low power consumption. The actual viewing conditions of households and the preferred luminance levels was investigated. In a field test of 83 households, the display luminance, screen illuminance, and viewing locations were measured on site. In laboratory experiments, young and elderly subjects adjusted the luminance of an LCD‐TV screen to their preferred levels under different screen illuminance levels, angular screen sizes, and average luminance levels (ALL) of the images. As a result, two equations, which represent the preferred luminance level of LCD‐TV screens corresponding to different viewing conditions for young and elderly subjects were obtained. When the ALL of the images was 25% and the screen illuminance and angular screen size were set at 100 lx and 20°, respectively, the preferred luminance was 1 60 cd/m2 for the young subjects and 248 cd/m2 for the elderly subjects. By using the setting of the preferred luminance of an LCD TV under actual viewing conditions, it is possible to conserve energy consumption. 相似文献

Resins containing phosphonium groups were prepared by reaction of chlorohydroxylated glycidylmethacrylate–divinylbenzene macroreticular resins with three trialkylphosphines. Triethylphosphine, tributylphosphine, and trioctylphosphine were used as trialkylphosphines. Adsorption and elution behavior of sodium benzenesulfonate (SBS) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) on the resins were studied. Adsorption of SBS and SDBS increased with increasing the alkyl chain length of phosphonium groups in the resins. The adsorption of SBS decreased with increasing ionic strength of the solution, while the adsorption of SDBS increased with increasing ionic strength of the solution. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
