We focus on situations in which we must decide on what time to take an action. The action is not in question it is the time of action. We call these "time for action decisions," a prototypical example being deciding when to leave on a journey. We point out that during this type of decision process, the decision-maker recognizes two groups of forces acting on him: one that pushes him to act now and other that pushes him act later. We note that the strength of these forces depends on the information available about various uncertainties associated with the situation. It also strongly depends upon the personality of the decision-maker. We observe that as time passes these conflicting forces tend to build up an anxiety in the decision-maker resulting in an action being taken at a time of most intense anxiety. In this paper using the ideas of possibility and necessity measures to enable different interpretations of uncertain information we investigate the temporal profile of the decision-maker's anxiety as a function of their decision attitude. We investigate the role of maximization of anxiety as decision paradigm. One of our goals here is to try to understand role of the nature and the quality information plays in these types of decisions as well as its interaction with anxiety.  相似文献

Electronic devices and their highly integrated components formed from semiconductor crystals contain complex three-dimensional (3D) arrangements of elements and wiring. Photonic crystals, being analogous to semiconductor crystals, are expected to require a 3D structure to form successful optoelectronic devices. Here, we report a novel fabrication technology for a semiconductor 3D photonic crystal by uniting integrated circuit processing technology with micromanipulation. Four- to twenty-layered (five periods) crystals, including one with a controlled defect, for infrared wavelengths of 3-4.5 microm, were integrated at predetermined positions on a chip (structural error <50 nm). Numerical calculations revealed that a transmission peak observed at the upper frequency edge of the bandgap originated from the excitation of a resonant guided mode in the defective layers. Despite their importance, detailed discussions on the defective modes of 3D photonic crystals for such short wavelengths have not been reported before. This technology offers great potential for the production of optical wavelength photonic crystal devices.  相似文献

This paper proposes an electromyographic (EMG) prosthetic hand that has five independently driven fingers, a flexion drive, and a force-magnification drive. The flexion drive allows for rapid finger motion, and the force-magnification drive allows for a firm grasp. To realize the natural feeling of control similar to that of movements with nonamputated parts, the control system includes the impedance model of human forearms and utilizes the muscle contraction level extracted from a user’s EMG signals. We experimentally verified that the maximum fingertip force of the hand exceeds 20 N, and the time required to fully close the hand by the flexion drive is 0.53 s. We also experimentally verified that in response to EMG signals, the fingers can flex smoothly and the grasping force can be modulated. Furthermore, we show that taking EMG signals as inputs makes it possible to control six operations, including ones that use the five fingers in distinctive ways.  相似文献

Intensity fluctuations of the longitudinal modes of a 0.8 μm AlGaAs laser were precisely measured during the occurrence of hopping between two modes. It was found from this result that mode hopping follows the stochastics of a Poisson process. The frequency of mode hopping was measured asf_{c} = [exp [-95(I/I_{th} - 1)]] times 10^{7}(Hz). whereI/I_{th}is the injection current normalized to its threshold value. Results of analog computer simulations showed that spontaneous emission worked as a triggering force for mode hopping. Results of the analysis based on the Fokker-Planck equation were compared to the experimental results, from which the root-mean-square value of the fluctuating electric field of spontaneous emission was estimated as2.3 times 10^{2)(V/m)leqlanglesim{E}_{N} leq 3.2 times 10^{2}(V/m). It is concluded that an effective reduction of mode hopping is achieved if the laser is operated at a higher bias or if the coupling constant between the two modes is increased.  相似文献

To clarify the existence of metastable phases in the ZrO2–CeO2–CeO1.5 system, evolved-oxygen gas analyses, (EGA), by heating a single phase of t′ and t″ (Ce(1−x)ZrxO2) with various compositions, x, in a reducing gas and successive oxidation were carried out repeatedly. The oxygen release behaviour of the t′ and t″ phases was very complicated. The single κ phases, (Ce(1−x)ZrxO2) with the composition, x=0.5 and 0.6, which were obtained by oxidizing the resulting pyrochlore as a precursor in O2 gas at 873 K, exhibited a sharp oxygen release at the lowest temperature; the composition range of κ phase may be x=0.450.65. A new tetragonal phase t*, (Ce(1−x)ZrxO2), which was attained by cyclic redox process together with annealing in O2 gas at 1323 or 1423 K, exhibited a sharp oxygen release at the highest temperature; the composition range of t* phase may be as wide as x=0.200.65. A metastable solid solution expressed by a chemical formula of Ce(8−4y)Zr4yO(14−δ) (y=01) possessing a CaF2-related structure appeared on deoxidation of the t* phase. A ternary phase diagram containing the t* and Ce(8−4y)Zr4yO(14−δ) solid solution was proposed.  相似文献

Simultaneous single-frequency oscillations on different transitions have been observed experimentally in a laser-diode-pumped microchip LiNdP4O12 laser. Extended experimental results on three-terminal quantum-confined field-effect light emitters with current injection and field control of luminescent characteristics in the quantum-well structure are reported. By incorporating superlattice buffer layers (SLBLs), the quantum efficiency of the device is dramatically improved and equivalently nonradiative recombination processes are sufficiently suppressed at room temperature. The red-shift of the emission spectra by the quantum-confined Stark effect assures that the electric field is effectively applied to the quantum well. The experimental data on the transient responses of emission intensity to input voltage pulses show fairly good correspondences with theoretical prediction and previous photoluminescence experiments. The authors discuss the ultimate capability of high-speed switching and point that an optical pulse with a duration as short as 30 ps and involving more than 100 photons can be generated by scaling down the size of the device with 1% external efficiency  相似文献

Fatigue crack initiation and growth characteristics under mixed mode loading have been investigated on aluminum alloys 2017-T3 and 7075-T6, using a newly developed apparatus for mixed mode loading tests. In 2017-T3, the fatigue crack initiation and growth characteristics from a precrack under mixed mode loading are divided into three regions—shear mode growth, tensile mode growth and no growth—on the ΔKIKII plane. The shear mode growth is observed in the region expressed approximately by ΔKII > 3MPa√m and ΔKIIKI > 1.6. In 7075-T6, the condition of shear mode crack initiation is expressed by ΔKII > 8 MPa√m and ΔKIIKI > 1.6, and continuous crack growth in shear mode is observed only in the case of ΔKIKII, 0. The threshold condition of fatigue crack growth in tensile mode is described by the maximum tensile stress criterion, which is given by Δσθmax √2πr 1.6MPa√m, in both aluminum alloys. The direction of shear mode crack growth approaches the plane in which KI decreases and KII increases towards the maximum with crack growth. da/dNKII relations of the curved cracks growing in shear mode under mixed mode loading agree well with the da/dNKII relation of a straight crack under pure mode II loading.  相似文献
