Estimates of body size are often expressed as a ratio of actual size [body perception index or BPI = (estimated size/actual size) x 100%]. In this article, we examine the possibility that overestimation of body size in patients with anorexia nervosa, as measured by the BPI, is due to their smaller body size rather than to their being anorexic. Using 50 mean body sizes derived from seven studies we investigated whether the error of estimation is a constant proportion of the body size to be estimated, as the use of the BPI assumes. A negative linear relation between BPI and actual body size was found, confirming that smaller size is associated with greater overestimation. However, although both groups showed a strong tendency to overestimate smaller sizes, anorexic subjects showed even greater overestimation than controls. Hence, overestimation of body size in AN can only partially be accounted for by the smaller body size of anorexic patients. Recommendations for future use of the BPI are put forward.  相似文献

An extensive series of 30 Cu exchanged zeolites and Cu impregnated silicas and aluminas have been tested in their capacities to stabilize the bis(μ-oxo)dicopper core. This core shows a remarkably activity towards methane, as it selectively hydroxylates methane into methanol at the low temperature of 125 °C. UV–vis spectroscopy is an easy approach to detect the presence of this bis(μ-oxo)dicopper core since it is characterized by an intense charge transfer band at 22 700 cm−1. In this way it was found that after calcination, only the Cu exchanged zeolites ZSM-5 and MOR are capable of stabilizing this core. In addition, an optimum in the Si/Al ratio and in the calcination temperature were observed, indicating that this core requires a rather specific coordination environment. For ZSM-5, the optimal Si/Al ratio for bis(μ-oxo) dicopper core formation is between 12 and 30 and the amount of this core increases with increasing copper loading above Cu/Al = 0.2. Calcination in O2 should be done at temperatures higher than 280 °C and lower than 700 °C. After reaction with methane at low temperature (150 °C), it was found that only Cu-ZSM-5 and Cu-MOR yielded methanol, whereas all the other Cu based materials yielded almost no methanol. At higher temperatures (200 °C) however, Cu-FER and Cu-BEA showed comparable methanol yields as Cu-ZSM-5 and also the methanol yield of Cu-MOR increased at this higher reaction temperature, indicating that a second not yet identified Cu-oxygen species is activated in the FER, BEA and MOR zeolites at higher temperatures.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: During atrial fibrillation (AF), the atrium is activated by multiple wavelets that continuously change in size and direction. The aim of this study was to correlate the temporal variation in AF electrogram configuration with the varying spatial patterns of activation. METHODS AND RESULTS: In a group of 25 Wolff-Parkinson-White patients undergoing cardiac surgery, the free wall of the right atrium was mapped (244 points) during electrically induced AF. The unipolar electrograms recorded during 4 seconds of AF were classified into four categories: (1) single deflections, (2) short-double potentials, (3) long-double potentials, and (4) fragmented potentials. The proportion of these four types of electrograms during AF was as follows: singles, 77 +/- 12%; short-doubles, 7 +/- 3%; long-doubles, 10 +/- 7%; and fragmented, 6 +/- 4%. Electrogram morphology was an indicator for rapid uniform conduction (single potentials; positive predictive value [PPV] of 0.96), collision (short-double potentials; PPV of 0.33), conduction block (long-double potentials; PPV of 0.84), and pivoting points or slow conduction (fragmented potentials; PPV of 0.87). In type I, II, and III AF, the proportion of long-double potentials was 4 +/- 2%, 12 +/- 3%, and 18 +/- 7% (P < .05); the proportion of fragmented complexes was 2 +/- 2%, 6 +/- 3%, and 10 +/- 4% (P < .05), respectively. During electrically induced and self-terminating episodes of AF, no preferential anatomic sites for double or fragmented potentials were found in the right atrium. CONCLUSIONS: The morphology of single unipolar electrograms during AF reflects the occurrence of various specific patterns of conduction. This might be used to differentiate between different types of AF and to identify regions with structural conduction disturbances involved in perpetuation of chronic AF.  相似文献

It has been proposed that the functions of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors p21(Cip1/Waf1) and p27Kip1 are limited to cell cycle control at the G1/S-phase transition and in the maintenance of cellular quiescence. To test the validity of this hypothesis, p21 was expressed in a diverse panel of cell lines, thus isolating the effects of p21 activity from the pleiotropic effects of upstream signaling pathways that normally induce p21 expression. The data show that at physiological levels of accumulation, p21, in addition to its role in negatively regulating the G1/S transition, contributes to regulation of the G2/M transition. Both G1- and G2-arrested cells were observed in all cell types, with different preponderances. Preponderant G1 arrest in response to p21 expression correlated with the presence of functional pRb. G2 arrest was more prominent in pRb-negative cells. The arrest distribution did not correlate with the p53 status, and proliferating-cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) binding activity of p21 did not appear to be involved, since p27, which lacks a PCNA binding domain, produced similar arrest distributions [corrected], DNA endoreduplication occurred in pRb-negative but not in pRb-positive cells, suggesting that functional pRb is necessary to prevent DNA replication in p21 G2-arrested cells. These results suggest that the primary target of the Cip/Kip family of inhibitors leading to efficient G1 arrest as well as to blockade of DNA replication from either G1 or G2 phase is the pRb regulatory system. Finally, the tendency of Rb-negative cells to undergo endoreduplication cycles when p21 is expressed may have negative implications in the therapy of Rb-negative cancers with genotoxic agents that activate the p53/p21 pathway.  相似文献

A study was done to find and quantify risk factors for coccidiosis. The study population consisted of 4774 broiler flocks kept on 177 farms. Flocks were considered a case when at least one bird in the flock showed microscopic presence of oocysts in intestinal scrapings in a grow-out cycle. Other flocks were defined as controls. This was done for three types of Eimeria: Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria tenella and Eimeria maxima. Logistic regression was used to assess variables that influence the occurrence of Eimeria species. There were 49 variables, based on animal, flock or farm level. There was an enhanced risk of coccidiosis due to environmental and management factors that increase the risk of introducing contamination or that are related to hygienic measures. These include lack of use of overalls by visitors, a farmyard which is difficult to clean, bad hygienic status, personnel who might also be working on other farms, presence of other animals on the farm, and feeding and drinking systems which are more difficult to clean. Also, the presence of other diseases on the farm and Eimeria species found in the previous flock increased the risk of coccidiosis.  相似文献

The treatment efficacy for reducing Campylobacter concentrations by a drinking water treatment plant was assessed using a stochastic Monte Carlo model. The goal of the study was to reduce uncertainty of the results by combining microbiological and non-microbiological data in an advanced treatment assessment. Combining raw water Campylobacter and E. coli data reduced the uncertainty on raw water (peak) concentrations five-fold. Similar improvement was achieved for rapid sand filtration. Ozone disinfection was modelled based on ozone concentrations, contact time and temperature. Since this data was available, whereas most microbiological analyses at this point were negative, uncertainty was reduced three-fold. The slow sand filtration assessment could not be improved; however, since previous steps contained less uncertainty, this did not increase uncertainty by much. The study showed that using appropriate data for each treatment step can greatly reduce uncertainty in treatment assessment.  相似文献
