Soluble polymers of linear chains with limited branching and spherical polymers (limit dextrins and sucrose, such as Dextran and Ficoll (Pharmacia Chemicals), yielding lower viscosities, are examined here for the separation of different nucleotides and several anti-AIDS drugs by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). The linear polymer forms a network but spherical polymers appear to create a second pseudo-phase. In general, they tend to enhance the solute mobility and reduce peak width; thus, they improve the column efficiency. We observe that the beads of a spherical polymer produce a pseudo-phase even in a very low polymer concentration. The proposed method involving a spherical polymer yields the best separation for twelve deoxyribonucleoside mono-, di- and triphosphates in ca. 10 min. Common anti-AIDS drugs (ddA, ddC, ddI, d4T, AZT) and an AZT metabolite (AZT-glucuronate) are resolved by using conventional micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MEKC). These results not only offer fast and highly sensitive detection techniques for the pharmacokinetics of nucleotides, drugs, and their metabolites, but they also demonstrate an application of the proposed second pseudo-phase involving spherical polymer beads in CZE separations. 相似文献

A khoa variety popularly known as Danedar khoa, which has a very short life under ambient conditions, was studied for its shelf life at room and refrigerated temperatures under controlled conditions after packaging in a flexible material (poster paper/aluminium foil/low-density polyethylene [LDPE]). The samples were observed periodically for characteristics such as moisture content, peroxide value, titratable acidity and overall acceptability. The structural arrangement of molecules, ions, and other molecular species in the confined spaces of nanoscale pores and mineral interlayer are a key factor in understanding transport and reactivity in many technological and biological systems. In this respect, considerable research efforts have been focused on the design of nanoscale oral sustained- and controlled-release drug delivery systems. Biodegradable polymers have long been of interest in controlled release technology because of the ability of these polymers to be reabsorbed by the body. There are not very many polymers which intercalate Cloisite, forming a good nanocomposite. The present study highlights some preliminary investigations on the synthesis of Cloisite and biodegradeable poly hydyroxyethyl methacrylate (PHEMA) nanocomposites. The nanocomposite were prepared by in situ intercalative polymerization of PHEMA within the Cloisite galleries and were characterized by spectral as well as morphological studies. POLYM. Over the last few decades, lifestyle changes have resulted in a drastic increase in the incidence of diabetes all over the world, especially in the developing countries. Oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin form the mainstay in controlling diabetes, but they have prominent side effects and fail to significantly alter the course of diabetic complications. Appropriate diet and exercise programs that form a part of lifestyle modifications have proven to be greatly effective in the management of this disease. Dietary therapy is showing a bright future in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Legumes, owing to their high nutritive value, are increasingly being used in dietetic formulations in the treatment and prevention of diabetes on account of their antidiabetic potential. Given this background, this paper reviews the glucose- and lipid-lowering action possessed by various commonly consumed legumes through several animal and human studies. It is concluded that the various legumes not only have varying degrees of antidiabetic potential but are also beneficial in decreasing the risk factors for cardiovascular and renal disease. 相似文献

Sinusoidal voltammetry was employed to detect both purine- and pyrimidine-based nucleic acids. Adenine and cytosine, representing these two classes of nucleic acids, could be measured with submicromolar detection limits at a copper electrode under these conditions, where the sensitivity for adenine was much higher than that for cytosine. Detection limits for purine-containing nucleotides [e.g., adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP), adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP), and adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP)] were on the order of 70-200 nM using this method. These detection limits are achieved for native nucleotides and are over 2 orders of magnitude lower than those found with UV absorbance detection. Submicromolar detection limits were also obtained for pyrimidine-based nucleotides, which could also be detected with high sensitivity due to the presence of a sugar backbone that is electroactive at the copper surface. This detector is not fouled by the nucleotides and may be used for the sensitive detection of analytes eluting continuously in a flowing stream, i.e., from a chromatography column or an electrophoresis capillary. 相似文献

Glass micropipettes, atomic force microscope tips and nanoneedles can be used to interrogate cells, but these devices either have conical geometries that can damage cells during penetration or are incapable of continuous fluid handling. Here, we report a carbon-nanotube-based endoscope for interrogating cells, transporting fluids and performing optical and electrochemical diagnostics at the single organelle level. The endoscope, which is made by placing a multiwalled carbon nanotube (length, 50-60?μm) at the tip of a glass pipette, can probe the intracellular environment with a spatial resolution of ~100?nm and can also access organelles without disrupting the cell. When the nanotube is filled with magnetic nanoparticles, the endoscope can be remotely manoeuvered to transport nanoparticles and attolitre volumes of fluids to and from precise locations. Because they are mounted on conventional glass micropipettes, the endoscopes readily fit standard instruments, creating a broad range of opportunities for minimally invasive intracellular probing, drug delivery and single-cell surgery. 相似文献
