HEAT TRANSFER BETWEEN HORIZONTAL TUBES AND FREEBOARD REGION OF A LOW-RANK COAL FLUIDIZED BED COMBUSTOR

Experiments are conducted to measure the heat transfer rates to air-cooled horizontal tubes of diameter 38.1mm in the freeboard region of a pilot-scale fluidized-bed combustor burning North Dakota lignite- Silica sand with diameter ranging from 883 to 973 μim is used as bed material. The tests are carried out without limestone addition and ash recycle, at average bed temperatures ranging from 698 to 1117K, freeboard temperatures of 700 to 1139 K and superficial velocities of 1.74 to 1.86 m/s. Among the existing correlations, those proposed by George and Grace (1982), and Byam et al. (1981) are found to predict the experimental results quite well and their root-mean-square deviations are found to be 15.8 and 18.4 percent respectively. @KEYWORDS: Heat transfer, Fluidized bed Coal combustor     

Kenosis and Alterity in Christian Spirituality.

Kenosis (self-emptying) and alterity (otherness) are central elements of Christian spirituality that also have potential relevance for psychoanalytic practice. Clinical illustrations are offered to illustrate this potential relevance, along with a contemporary paraphrase of Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan. Kenosis has a way of enfolding alterity: The "me" and the "not me" end up being more related than is initially apparent. The impact of situational constraints, role stressors, and commitment on employee altruism.

This study investigated relations between 3 work-related stressors (role ambiguity, role conflict, and organizational constraints) and altruistic behavior in the workplace. It was predicted that each stressor would be negatively related to altruism and that these relations would be moderated by affective commitment (AC). Data from 144 incumbent-supervisor dyads revealed that all 3 stressors; were weakly and negatively related to altruism. Two of these relationships were moderated by AC, although not as predicted. Organizational constraints were positively related to altruism among those reporting high levels of AC but negatively related among those reporting low levels of AC. The pattern was exactly opposite for role conflict. Implications of these findings are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)     

An empirical performance comparison of some variations of thek-d Tree andBD tree

Database applications very often require a sophisticated class of storage structures in order to answer different types of queries efficiently. This often dictates that the file should be organized on multiple keys. Several storage structures have been proposed to satisfy these needs. Most of these are a generalization of the storage structures used for managing one-dimensional data. Thek-d tree is one such example and it is a natural generalization of the standard one-dimensional binary search tree. Recently, a new storage structure, called theBD tree, was proposed to manage multidimensional data. This structure has good dynamic characteristics. Several variations are possible on the basick-d tree structure. This paper studies the performance implications of three variations. Further, it provides an empirical performance comparison of thek-d tree andBD tree in database applications.
