Fourteen patients with hyperlipoproteinaemia and peripheral vascular disease have been investigated to determine the effect on limb blood flow of hypolipidaemic therapy. Satisfactory lowering of serum lipoprotein levels was achieved in the treated group. There was a significant deterioration in peak reactive blood flow measurements in the placebo group compared with the treated group. Treatment of hyperlipoproteinaemia may, therefore, be of value in preventing the progression of peripheral atherosclerosis. 相似文献

This paper presents evidence that the Snyder/Pope Visual Memory Technique utilizing the Bender-Gestalt Test is a useful predictor of reading ability for first grade children. Subjects were administered the Bender Visual Memory Technique, the Bender-Gestalt Test, and the Digit Span subtest of the WISC-R at the beginning of first grade. The same children were administered the Reading subtest of the Wide Range Achievement Test at the end of first grade. Category scores of the Visual Memory Technique were correlated with the reading achievement results. One category, Rcc (an error-free recall of an error-free original drawing), correlated significantly with later reading ability (r = .43, p = .01). The Digit Span and reading achievement relationship was not found to be significant. Short-term visual recall is probably highly related to the reading task at Grade 1 and should be assessed when children begin to learn to read. Arylamine-hemoglobin adducts are a valuable dosimeter for assessing arylamine exposures and carcinogenic risk. The effects of age, sex, time-course, dose, and acetylator genotype on levels of 2-aminofluorene-hemoglobin adducts were investigated in homozygous rapid (Bio. 82.73/H-Patr) and slow (Bio. 82.73/H-Pats) acetylator hamsters congenic at the polymorphic (NAT2) acetylator locus. Following administration of a single ip dose of [3H]2-aminofluorene, peak 2-aminofluorene-hemoglobin adduct levels were achieved at 12-18 hr and retained a plateau up to 72 hr postinjection in both rapid and slow acetylator congenic hamsters. 2-Aminofluorene-hemoglobin adduct levels did not differ significantly between young (5-6 weeks) and old (32-49 weeks) hamsters or between male and female hamsters within either acetylator genotype. 2-Aminofluorene-hemoglobin adduct levels increased in a dose-dependent manner (r = 0.95, p = 0.0001) and were consistently higher in slow versus rapid acetylator congenic hamsters in studies of both time-course and dose-effect. The magnitude of the acetylator genotype-dependent difference was a function of dose; 2-aminofluorene-hemoglobin adduct levels were 1.5-fold higher in slow acetylator congenic hamsters following a 60 mg/kg 2-aminofluorene dose (p = 0.0013) but 2-fold higher following a 100 mg/kg 2-aminofluorene dose (p < 0.0001). These results show a specific and significant role for NAT2 acetylator genotype in formation of arylamine-hemoglobin adducts, which may reflect the relationship between acetylator genotype and the incidence of different cancers from arylamine exposures. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare continuity clinic experiences by practice setting and postgraduate level. DESIGN: Mailed questionnaire. SETTING: Baylor College of Medicine pediatric residents selected 1 of 3 continuity practice settings, including community-based private offices (n = 35) and university-based clinics in a private (n = 71) and a public (n = 12) hospital. SUBJECTS: One hundred eighteen pediatric residents, May 1993. OUTCOME MEASURES: Patient volume, continuity of care, type of patient visit, and faculty supervision. RESULTS: The response rate was 77% (91/118). Pediatric residents in community-based private offices reported seeing more patients per session than those in the university-based private and public clinics (88%, 10%, and 0% residents in the respective practice settings reported > or = 4 patients per session), but were less likely to see patients repeatedly (6%, 68%, and 40% residents in the respective practice settings had seen more than half their patients > 2 times). Residents in private offices provided a smaller percentage of well child care (16%, 61%, and 90% residents in the respective practice settings reported > 50% patients were well) and more acute care (68%, 15% and 0% residents in the respective practice settings reported > 25% patients were acutely ill). Residents in private offices reported a higher percentage of time spent observing only (33%, 0%, and 0% residents in the respective practice settings observed > 25% of the time) and less time managing patients independently (93%, 59%, and 40% residents, respectively, managed < or = 25% of the time). No significant differences among postgraduate levels were found for these variables. CONCLUSIONS: Patient volume, continuity of care, type of patient visit, and faculty supervision were significantly different among continuity practice settings. Postgraduate level of training did not affect significantly these measures of continuity clinic experience. These differences need to be considered in curriculum development. 相似文献

Effect of xylazine and ketamine on blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate in rabbits 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
New Zealand white and New Zeland white-Dutch Belted cross rabbits of both sexes were anesthetized using xylazine and ketamine alone and in combination while blood pressure, heart and respiratory rates were monitored. Blood pressure effects were measured from the aortic arch by a cannula implant through the left carotid artery. Ketamine-xylazine in combination at 35 and 5 mg/kg body weight, respectively, produced 45-60 minutes of surgical plane anesthesia. Anesthesia was induced in approximately 10 minutes. The average initial blood pressure drop was complete in 10 minutes and was 30%. Heart and respiratory rates dropped 19% and 77%, respectively, in the same time span. An additional blood pressure drop of 6-7% occurred as consciousness was regained. Blood pressure recovery was nearly complete (normal) about 6 hours following injection of the drug combination. 相似文献
