On the basis of comprehensive RFLP analysis, it has been inferred that approximately 97% of Native American mtDNAs belong to one of four major founding mtDNA lineages, designated haplogroups "A"-"D." It has been proposed that a fifth mtDNA haplogroup (haplogroup X) represents a minor founding lineage in Native Americans. Unlike haplogroups A-D, haplogroup X is also found at low frequencies in modern European populations. To investigate the origins, diversity, and continental relationships of this haplogroup, we performed mtDNA high-resolution RFLP and complete control region (CR) sequence analysis on 22 putative Native American haplogroup X and 14 putative European haplogroup X mtDNAs. The results identified a consensus haplogroup X motif that characterizes our European and Native American samples. Among Native Americans, haplogroup X appears to be essentially restricted to northern Amerindian groups, including the Ojibwa, the Nuu-Chah-Nulth, the Sioux, and the Yakima, although we also observed this haplogroup in the Na-Dene-speaking Navajo. Median network analysis indicated that European and Native American haplogroup X mtDNAs, although distinct, nevertheless are distantly related to each other. Time estimates for the arrival of X in North America are 12,000-36,000 years ago, depending on the number of assumed founders, thus supporting the conclusion that the peoples harboring haplogroup X were among the original founders of Native American populations. To date, haplogroup X has not been unambiguously identified in Asia, raising the possibility that some Native American founders were of Caucasian ancestry.  相似文献

Cholesteryl 3",4"-dimethoxycinnamate (7) and a new synthesized o-coumaroyl ester of 3 beta-(2'-hydroxyethoxy)-cholest-5-en (13) exhibited a marked activity against poliovirus type 1 (Mahoney). Compound 7 showed an approximately 20-fold greater selectivity in its antiviral activity than compound 13. These compounds were selected from thirteen steryl esters of cinnamic acid derivatives through an in vitro antiviral screening against viruses belonging to taxonomic groups with causative agents of important human infectious diseases to which chemotherapy is indicated, i.e. Picornaviridae, Orthomyxoviridae, Paramyxoviridae and Herpesviridae.  相似文献

Experimental data on the molecular weight distribution (MWD) of polyethylene (PE) produced over a broad number of Ziegler‐Natta catalysts differing in composition and preparation procedure are presented. These catalysts include nonsupported TiCl3 catalyst, four types of supported titanium‐magnesium catalysts (TMC) differing in the content of titanium and the presence of various modifiers in the composition of the support, and a supported catalyst containing VCl4 as an active component instead of TiCl4. The studied catalysts produce PE with different molecular weights within a broad range of polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 2.8–16) under the same polymerization conditions. The heterogeneity of active sites of these catalysts was studied by deconvolution of experimental MWD curves into Flory components assuming a correlation between the number of Flory components and the number of active site types. Five Flory components were found for PE produced over nonsupported TiCl3 catalysts (Mw/Mn = 6.8), and three–four Flory components were found for PE produced over TMC of different composition. A minimal number of Flory components (three) was found for PE samples (Mw/Mn values from 2.8 to 3.3) produced over TMC with a very low titanium content (0.07 wt %) and TMC modified with dibutylphtalate. An experimental study is made of a “chemical arc”, a model layered system of solid components, between the end surfaces of which stationary combustion takes place. The rates of combustion of the components in ammonium perchlorate-polyether, ammonium perchlorate-polyethylene, and ammonium perchlorate-butyl rubber systems with catalytic additives (diethyl ferrocene, epoxyethyl ferrocene, and iron oxide) are measured as functions of the distance between the components. A maximum mass combustion velocity is found to exist as a result of the transition from a low velocity (kinetic) to a high velocity reaction regime. The data are in qualitative agreement with theory. A human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individual was first diagnosed with red blood cell aplasia due to B19 parvovirus infection in late 1989. Over the subsequent seven-year period, he received a total of 119 units of red blood cells (RBCs) and intravenous immunoglobulin every 2-3 weeks. In 1996 combination antiretroviral treatment with a protease inhibitor was initiated. He received four more units during the following two months and then required no more transfusions for the subsequent 24 months of follow-up. His CD4 count progressively increased and DNA polymerase chain reaction for parvovirus B19 became undetectable. Aggressive antiretroviral treatment may effectively diminish transfusion requirements among HIV-infected individuals with pure RBC aplasia resulting from parvovirus B19 infection.  相似文献

Results of investigations into the dependence of mechanical properties of welded joints of pipes for offshore pipelines on welding conditions are presented. In particular, the results show that the mechanical properties of pipes of the strength categories K60 (X70) and K56 (X65) are influenced mainly by the heat input, the fracture toughness of welded joints, and pipes of a high strength category are lower by 30–35% than in the case of the K56 (X65) pipes. The hardness of the weld metal in the upper layers is 15–17% higher for automatic submerged arc welding and in the lower layers for gas-shielded automatic arc welding. In inspecting the mechanical properties of the welded joints, special attention must be given to the longitudinal welded joints in the pipes.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to establish whether the steroids, progesterone, androstenedione, testosterone and oestradiol, were present in the mesonephric-gonadal complex of female and male sheep fetuses around sexual differentiation (that is, from day 28 to day 45 of gestation, with sexual differentiation occurring at approximately day 32). A second aim was to test whether the mesonephric-gonadal complex, mesonephros (days 35-45 only) and gonad (days 35-45 only) were capable of steroid synthesis in vitro. The steroid contents in the mesonephric-gonadal complex were not detectable before sexual differentiation. However, from day 35 of gestation onwards, the mesonephric-ovarian complex contained mainly oestradiol and the mesonephric-testicular complex contained mainly testosterone: from day 35 until day 45 the increase in content of these two steroids exceeded the increase in the mass of tissue by more than fivefold. From day 40 to day 45 of gestation, the contents of the other steroids in the pathways to oestradiol increased progressively in both sexes but more in parallel with the increase in tissue mass. In contrast to the steroid contents in the tissue at recovery, the mesonephric-gonadal tissue from both sexes in tissue culture was able to synthesize most steroids before and after sexual differentiation and also to metabolise supplementary androstenedione to oestradiol. These findings suggest that many, if not all, of the steroidogenic enzymes in the pathway from cholesterol to oestradiol are present before sexual differentiation. Most of the aforementioned steroids were present in detectable amounts in isolated mesonephros and gonad of both sexes after sexual differentiation. Moreover, for both the isolated mesonephros and gonad, there were increases in the mean contents of most steroids after culture relative to the contents in the tissues at recovery. These data suggest that the mesonephros, as well as the gonad, in both sexes is capable of synthesizing steroid. It is concluded that, in the sheep fetus, the female and male gonads are steroidogenically active after sexual differentiation, that the steroidogenic enzymes develop before sexual differentiation, and that the mesonephros is a site of steroid synthesis.  相似文献
