Does forgiveness predict later conflict resolution in married couples? Twelve-month follow-up data on conflict resolution were collected from the couples studied by F. D. Fincham, S. R. Beach, and J. Davila (see record 2004-11293-007), who had provided earlier reports of forgiveness and conflict resolution. For wives, the positive dimension of forgiveness or benevolence predicted husbands' later reports of better conflict resolution controlling for initial levels of conflict resolution. This finding was independent of wives' marital satisfaction and the degree of hurt engendered by husbands' transgressions. For husbands, the only predictor of wives' reports of later conflict resolution was initial level of conflict resolution. The findings are discussed in terms of the direction of effect between forgiveness and conflict resolution and of the mechanisms that might link them. The wireless connectivity in pervasive computing has ephemeral character and can be used for creating ad hoc networks, sensor networks, connection with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags etc. The communication tasks in such wireless networks often involve an inquiry over a shared channel, which can be invoked for: discovery of neighboring devices in ad hoc networks, counting the number of RFID tags that have a certain property, estimating the mean value contained in a group of sensors etc. Such an inquiry solicits replies from possibly large number of terminals n. This necessitates the usage of algorithms for resolving batch collisions (conflicts) with unknown conflict multiplicity n. In this paper we present a novel approach to the problem of collision resolution for batch conflicts. We show how the conventional tree algorithms for collision resolution can be used to obtain progressively accurate estimation of the multiplicity. We use the estimation to propose a more efficient binary tree algorithm, termed Estimating Binary Tree (EBT) algorithm. The EBT algorithm is suited for implementation when the conflicting nodes are passive, such as e.g. RFID tags. We extend the approach to design the Interval Estimation Conflict Resolution (IECR) algorithm. For n→∞ we prove that the efficiency achieved by IECR for batch arrivals is identical with the efficiency that Gallager’s FCFS algorithm achieves for Poisson packet arrivals. For finite n, the simulation results show that IECR is, to the best of our knowledge, the most efficient batch resolution algorithm reported to date.  相似文献

In 3 experiments, the authors investigated spatial updating in augmented reality environments. Participants learned locations of virtual objects on the physical floor. They were turned to appropriate facing directions while blindfolded before making pointing judgments (e.g., "Imagine you are facing X. Point to Y"). Experiments manipulated the angular difference between the learning heading and the imagined heading and between the actual heading and the imagined heading. The effect of actual-imagined on pointing latency was observed for naive users but not for users with brief training or instructions concerning the fact that objects can move with body movements. The results indicated that naive users used an environment-stabilized reference frame to access information arrays, but with experience and instruction the nature of the representation changed from an environment stabilized to a body stabilized reference frame. Molecular orbital calculations of the ionization potential of single wall carbon nanotubes having donor NH2 and acceptor NO2 groups bonded to the side walls and ends and boron and nitrogen substituted for carbon show substantial increases in ionization potential compared to carbon nanotubes with no functional groups and no carbon substitutions. The presence of a carbon vacancy on the side wall also causes a substantial increase in the ionization potential. The effect of tube length on the ionization energy is also calculated. The calculations also suggest that at appropriate levels of boron and nitrogen doping the armchair carbon nanotubes could be high temperature organic ferromagnetic materials.  相似文献

The cyanide-ligated form of the baker's yeast cytochrome c peroxidase mutant bearing the mutation Asn82-->Ala82 ([N82A]CcPCN) has been studied by proton NMR spectroscopy. This mutation alters an amino acid that forms a hydrogen bond to His52, the distal histidine residue that interacts in the heme pocket with heme-bound ligands. His52 is a residue critical to cytochrome c peroxidase's normal function. Proton hyperfine resonance assignments have been made for the cyanide-ligated form of the mutant by comparison with 1-D and NOESY spectra of the wild-type native enzyme. For [N82A]CcPCN, proton NMR spectra reveal two significant phenomena. First, similar to results published for the related mutant [N82D]CcPCN [Satterlee, J. D., et al. (1994) Eur. J. Biochem. 244, 81-87], for Ala82 mutation disrupts the hydrogen bond between His52 and the heme-ligated CN. Second, four of the 24 resolved hyperfine-shifted resonances are doubled in the mutant enzyme's proton spectrum, leading to the concept that the heme active site environment is dynamically microheterogeneous on a very localized scale. Two magnetically inequivalent enzyme forms are detected in a pure enzyme preparation. Varying temperature causes the two enzyme forms to interconvert. Magnetization transfer experiments further document this interconversion between enzyme forms and have been used to determine that the rate of interconversion is 250 (+/- 53) s-1. The equilibrium constant at 20 degrees C is 1.5. Equilibrium constants have been calculated at various temperatures between 5 and 29 degrees C leading to the following values: delta H = 60 kJ mol-1; delta S = 0.20 kJ K-1 mol-1.  相似文献

To avoid the lowering of the holdoff voltage due to the electrode erosion in one stage high current pseudospark switches (PSS), a two stage PSS with no axial aperture in the intermediate electrode was tested. For investigations a pulse generator was used generating peak currents up to 120 kA at a maximum voltage of 30 kV with a period length of 5 μs of a weakly damped sine wave with 90% current reversal. In comparison with a one stage PSS the breakdown characteristic was shifted to higher pressure. With a free floating intermediate electrode, the device could not be triggered, however, with additional capacities of a few nF between the three electrodes the discharge was ignited. The discharge in the second gap is triggered by the pseudospark discharge in the cathode gap, discharging the auxiliary capacities. Simultaneously, observation of both gaps with fast shutter photography showed an independent movement of the discharges in the two gaps. In the cathode gap as current increases, the discharge moves away from the center to the plane electrode surface as has been observed in the one stage PSS. However, in the anode gap the discharge moves away from the center after a contraction to the center. The two discharges are transmitted to metal vapor arc type discharges as the erosion patterns prove. With this kind of a two stage PSS holdoff voltages exceeding 35 kV would be possible.
