The resurgence of metal-on-metal articulating surfaces for hip arthroplasty has also heightened concerns about the degree and magnitude of metal particle generation and the accompanying increase in circulating metal ion concentrations. In this study, we measured the concentration of chromium in serum and urine and the concentration of cobalt in serum in twenty-five patients with modern metal-on-metal surface arthroplasty of the hip in a prospective manner. The results showed that the mean post-operative chromium in serum levels were 22-fold, 23-fold and 21-fold higher at 3, 6 and 12 months post-operative, respectively, than pre-operative levels. The mean post-operative cobalt in serum levels were 8-fold, 7-fold and 6-fold higher at 3, 6 and 12 months post-operative, respectively, than pre-operative levels. The mean post-operative chromium in urine levels were 9-fold, 10-fold and 14-fold higher at 3, 6 and 12 months post-operative, respectively, than pre-operative levels. The values seen in this study with the current generation of surface arthroplasties are: (a) lower than those seen in an earlier generation of surface arthroplasties; (b) in the same range as those observed in association with metal-on-metal conventional total hip replacements, which typically have smaller head sizes; (c) higher than values observed in patients with conventional metal-on-polyethylene articulating couples.  相似文献

Abstract— A scalable manufacturing process for fabricating active‐matrix backplanes on low‐cost flexible substrates, a key enabler for electronic‐paper displays, is presented. This process is based on solution processing, ink‐jet printing, and laser patterning. A multilayer architecture is employed to enable high aperture ratio and array performance. These backplanes were combined with E Ink electrophoretic media to create high‐performance displays that have high contrast, are bistable, and can be flexed repeatedly to a radius of curvature of 5 mm.  相似文献

A mixed reality (MR) represents an environment composed both by real and virtual objects. MR applications are used more and more, for instance in surgery, architecture, cultural heritage, entertainment, etc. For some of these applications it is important to merge the real and virtual elements using consistent illumination. This paper proposes a classification of illumination methods for MR applications that aim at generating a merged environment in which illumination and shadows are consistent. Three different illumination methods can be identified: common illumination, relighting and methods based on inverse illumination. In this paper a classification of the illumination methods for MR is given based on their input requirements: the amount of geometry and radiance known of the real environment. This led us to define four categories of methods that vary depending on the type of geometric model used for representing the real scene, and the sdifferent radiance information available for each point of the real scene. Various methods are described within their category. The classification points out that in general the quality of the illumination interactions increases with the amount of input information available. On the other hand, the accessibility of the method decreases since its pre‐processing time increases to gather the extra information. Recent developed techniques managed to compensate unknown data with clever techniques using an iterative algorithm, hardware illumination or recent progress in stereovision. Finally, a review of illumination techniques for MR is given with a discussion on important properties such as the possibility of interactivity or the amount of complexity in the simulated illumination.  相似文献

The angular distribution of forward-scattered light in transient-scattering-mode (TSM) and extended-scattering-mode (ESM) ferroelectric liquid-crystal (FLC) devices was evaluated by use of circularly polarized incident light. For both modes the intensity and the distribution of forward-scattered light depended primarily on the FLC birefringence, spontaneous polarization, and the cell path length. In the FLC materials examined, the forward-scattering intensity under ESM drive conditions increased with longer FLC pitch lengths, whereas under TSM conditions stronger forward scattering was observed with increasing FLC spontaneous polarization. Although both TSM and ESM drive conditions displayed a similar angular distribution for forward-scattered light, the intensity of ESM scattering over a 0 degrees -6 degrees range was considerably smaller than that observed in earlier experiments with linearly polarized incident light.  相似文献

High-energy (59 pJ), low-jitter (250 fs), high-extinction ratio (800), and short (14.5 ps FWHM) pulses were generated by gain-switching of a tapered stripe gain-guided laser diode (LD) via resonant driving. These characteristics are attributed to a stable single-mode near-field pattern, a single-lobe far-field pattern, and multilongitudinal modes associated with the tapered stripe LD under high driving current pulses. These pulses from a comb generator were enhanced mainly from reflection at the LD-transmission line impedance mismatch; the line length was adjusted for resonance with the reflection from the step recovery diode, further increasing the driving current.  相似文献

An n-channel Si-gate process has been developed to fabricate MNOS EEPROM transistors and fast logic circuits on one chip. The technology proposed involves low thermal oxidation temperatures ≤900°C after nitride deposition, two LOCOS process steps and application of self-aligned overlapped poly-Si contacts. The MNOS memory transistors obtained have been programmed by ±25 V pulses with a write time of tw = 10 ms and an erase time of te = 100 ms.The retention data have been found to be dependent on nitride thickness and threshold voltage shift, but independent of channel length and channel doping. For devices with a nitride thickness of 30.5 nm the short-term decay rate of 0.6 V/(decade of time) has been determined. Endurance testing using up to 107 pulses of ±25 V, 100 μs corresponding to approx. 104 write/erase cycles showed no time dependence for the decay rate over the time of 105 min in which retention measurements were made.  相似文献
