Enzymatic resolution of 1-hydroxy-2,3-dihydroindene and 1-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene derivatives using lipases

1-Hydroxy-3-methyl-2,3-dihydroindene and 1-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene derivatives were kinetically resolved with lipases by transesterification using vinyl esters or butyric anhydride as acyl donors. These results are discussed in considering the influence of acyl donors and with reference to Prelog's proposal that certain enzymes exhibit ‘product stereospecificity’.     

Approaching (100)<0vw> by Rolling Directionally Solidified Silicon Steels

Based on the possible ability of strip casting to produce a (100)<0vw> fibre texture by directional solidification, experiments of rolling, annealing and magnetic measurement were performed on samples that were directionally solidified by other means. Samples with a final texture of strong (001) component were obtained in steels with 3 wt.% Si and 0.2 wt.% Al. A B₅₀ value of 1.71T was obtained in a as‐cast ring specimen. Starting samples have columnar grains with a diameter of about 1mm diameter tilted about 9°, on the average, relative to a perfect <100>//ND. Cold rolling produced the expected rotated cube (001)<>. Further processing steps led to the final texture mentioned above. The paper presents the texture evolution along the processing steps.     

Effect of platelet-activating factor on cortisol and corticosterone secretion by perfused dog adrenal

Administration of platelet-activating factor (PAF) to perfused adrenal increased cortisol and corticosterone secretion. With hexadecyl PAF (C₁₆PAF; 1-O-hexadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine), the increase was significant at 1 nM and maximal at 10 nM. The responses to 10 nM octadecyl PAF (C₁₈PAF; 1-O-octadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) were one fourth of those to 10 nM C₁₆PAF. The addition of C₁₆PAF to dispersed adrenal cells significantly increased cortisol and corticosterone production at 0.1 nM and 10 nM, respectively. C₁₆PAF was about 1000 times more potent than histamine on a molar basis in respect to cortisol response in both perfused adrenal and dispersed adrenal cells. The results suggest that PAF induces cortisol release from dog adrenal.
