Relation between the magnetic and lattice degrees of freedom in the Fe-C system

On the basis of the relation between magnetic and lattice degrees of freedom, it is of interest to consider a special structured state with spatial scale of the order of tens of nm at the beginning of polymorphic γ-α transformation in steel. Supercooling of this state leads to the formation of disperse structures that are stronger and harder than bainite and pearlite and more plastic than martensite.     

Metal desulfurization with manganese in the course of direct alloying

The problems of metal desulfurization in the course of direct alloying with manganese via feeding manganese sinter and aluminum into a ladle during pouring a metal from a steelmaking vessel are considered. According to calculations and experimental data, the degree of desulfurization is 30–35 and 60% at manganese contents of 0.5 and more than 1%, respectively.     

Transformation of austenite in Fe-Cu alloys. I: Kinetics of the transformation

The kinetics of autstenite decomposition in a hypereutectoid Fe-5.5% Cu alloy has been studied. Unusually large n values in the Avrami equation have been noted when using it for the approximation of experimental dependences. An explanation of this feature is given based on the hypothesis of a two-stage decomposition of the γ phase. An accelerating effect of hot plastic deformation on the austenite decomposition has been demonstrated.

Roller diagnostics in hot-rolling mills on the basis of the coercive force

Magnetic diagnostics of the working layer on rollers is considered. A diagnostic method is proposed on the basis of the coercive force (the residual magnetization of the material) and employed by means of the robotized Valok 2000 diagnostic complex. The diagnostic results are presented in graphical and numerical form, by means of charts of roller properties. The basic approach to interpretation of the magnetic charts is outlined. Sample charts are presented for rotors with various defects. The potential of magnetic diagnostics in intake and periodic monitoring of the rollers is demonstrated. The stability of roller manufacture and subsequent roller operation may be assessed by this means. The results permit the identification of rollers with problems, reduction in the accident rate, and optimization of roller preparation.
