Calculation of the integral parameters of rotor-type granulators

The Influence of the Amount of Fluoride Catalyst on the Morphological Properties of the Anilinepropylsilica Xerogel Prepared in Basic Medium

Anilinepropylsilica hybrid powder was synthesized by a sol-gel route in basic medium using HF as catalyst. The effect of the amount of HF catalyst on the morphologies and on organic content was studied. The xerogels were characterized using FTIR, SEM and N₂ adsorption-desorption isotherms. The increase in the HF quantity results in an slight increase in organic content and changes in the particle size, surface area and pore structure.     

Passive solar systems for heating, daylighting and ventilation for rooms without an equator-facing facade

Spaces without northerly orientations have an impact on the ‘energy behaviour’ of a building. This paper outlines possible energy savings and better performance achieved by different zenithal solar passive strategies (skylights, roof monitors and clerestory roof windows) and element arrangements across the roof in zones of cold to temperate climates typical of the central and central-southern Argentina. Analyses were undertaken considering daylighting, thermal and ventilation performances of the different strategies. The results indicate that heating, ventilation and lighting loads in spaces without an equator-facing facade can be significantly reduced by implementing solar passive strategies. In the thermal aspect, the solar saving fraction reached for the different strategies were averaged 43.16% for clerestories, 41.4% for roof monitors and 38.86% for skylights for a glass area of 9% to the floor area. The results also indicate average illuminance levels above 500 lux for the different clerestory and monitor arrangements, uniformity ratios of 0.66–0.82 for the most distributed arrangements and daylighting factors between 11.78 and 20.30% for clear sky conditions, depending on the strategy. In addition, minimum air changes rates of 4 were reached for the most extreme conditions.     

Genetic diversity among clinical and environmental isolates of Aspergillus fumigatus

To determine if cases of invasive aspergillosis (IA) were caused by strains of Aspergillus fumigatus with unique characteristics, strains from immunosuppressed patients with IA were compared to strains obtained from sputa of patients with cystic fibrosis and to strains from the environment. An extremely high genomic diversity was observed among the 879 strains typed by Southern blotting with a retrotransposon-like element from A. fumigatus (C. Neuvéglise, J. Sarfati, J. P. Latgé, and S. Paris, Nucleic Acids Res. 24:1428-1434, 1996). Analysis of Southern blot hybridization patterns showed the absence of clustering between environmental isolates and clinical isolates from patients with IA or cystic fibrosis. In addition, strains could not be clustered depending on their geographical location. This study implies that practically any strain of A. fumigatus is potentially pathogenic and can provoke a case of IA when it encounters a favorable environment in an immunosuppressed host.     

Organizing the production of heat-insulating inserts for ingot-mold hot tops

The Zlatoust Metallurgical Plant has developed a technology that employs semi-dry pressing to make two-layer (composite) heat-insulating inserts for ingot-mold hot tops. The working layer is made of a mixture of materials based on quartz sand, while the insulating layer is based on foamed vermiculate. The binders are sodium silicate solution and commercial lignosulfonate with a density of 1.12–1.20 g/cm³.     

Enhancement of heat and mass transfer in a plane channel with turbulizers on one of the walls

The effect of turbulizing asperities positioned on one of the walls of a plane channel on the intensity of exchange processes near a smooth wall with injection of different working media is studied experimentally. Detection and Validation of Clusters of Polynomial Zeros

We consider the task of partitioning the zeros of a real or complex polynomial into clusters and of determining their location and multiplicity for polynomials with coefficients of limited accuracy. We derive computational procedures for the solution of this task which combine symbolic computation with floating-point arithmetic. The validation of the existence ofmzeros in a specified small disk is described.
