Applications of an Infrared Imager for Determining Temperature Fields in Gas Flows

A device containing a temperature converter with an infrared camera is described. Its application allows one to instantly measure the temperature field of a gas flow in regions of arbitrary sizes.     

Functional of Receptor Sensitivity and Adjoint Equations

The functional of receptor sensitivity of a territory to the disposition of emission sources can adequately be calculated with the use of the mathematical apparatus of adjoint equations. The solutions of these equations allow one to determine the action of pollutants in the form of aerosols or harmful gaseous impurities on the environment and human health. Examples of calculation of the sensitivity functional on the basis of solution of adjoint equations have been presented. Mathematical models for the typical equations on optimum placement of industrial plants have been formulated. An interpretation of the results obtained has been given.

Comparative study of incorporation of Cl and F into SiO2 during the MCVD process

We report the results of examination of incorporation of chlorine and fluorine into silica as revealed from secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) and Raman spectroscopy measurements. The samples were preform-like rods made by the MCVD process. SIMS spectra were used for quantitative analysis of Cl concentration in glass. The concentrations of F were obtained from the Raman spectra. Both spectroscopic methods indicated the presence of Si---Cl groups in SiO₂ synthesized from chlorine-rich vapour gaseous blend. The difference in structural roles of Cl and F in chemically deposited silica manifests itself in the efficiency of their bonding to Si and in interaction with intrinsic structural defects.     

Energy expenditures and the actual nutrition of workers in a synthetic leather plant

A study was made of energy expenditures and factual nutrition of the workers engaged in synthetic leather manufacture. Antropometric measurements were also taken. Based on the study of daily energy expenditures, the calculations were made of the optimal requirements of the main substances and energy. The actual nutrition of the workers was found to provide the necessary caloricity covering energy expenditures. However, definite shortcomings were revealed in the structure of the foods consumed, namely insufficient intake of vegetable fats, the prevalence of simple sugars in the structure of carbohydrate component, insufficient intake of vitamins A, B1 and folacin. According to the antropometric measurements 30,4% of the examined workers were obese.     

Effect of intragastric feeding with qualitatively different mixtures on the microflora composition of the intestines in rats

Rats of four groups each holding 6-8 animals were changed over to intragastric nutrition with different mixtures one week after cannula implantation into the stomach. The observation period constituted 15 days. The rats of two other groups were kept on oral feeding with a common diet. As compared to oral feeding, intragastric one led to alterations in the cecum microflora. More profound hydrolysis of the nutrients contained by the mixture produced a more demonstrable increase in the number of enterobacteria, enterococci, staphylococci, and lactobacilli. Intragastric feeding with a mixture without nitrogenous component sharply reduced the number of lactobacilli in the cecum contents.     

Structural and mechanical properties and effective permeability of fissured materials
