Pulse High‐Speed Action of a Hot Gas Flow on a Wall of Chromium‐Nickel Steel

Consideration has been given to the pulse action of a hot gas flow on a wall of chromiumnickel steel; an analysis has been made of the processes and phenomena of mechanical and thermoerosive wear and fatigue failure of the wall. A structural model of thermal fatigue of chromiumnickel steel has been developed. The wear of the wall of a tube with an inside diameter of 0.03 m under the pulse action of the gas flow and thermal stresses of the second kind has been evaluated numerically. The results of shortduration mechanical tests of 12Kh18N10T steel after thermocycling have been given.

Supercooling of In2Bi and InBi Melts

The effect of melt overheating T ⁺ on the critical supercooling T ^– of liquid In₂Bi and InBi is studied by cyclic thermal analysis. It is shown that, the T ^– for In₂Bi is 2.0 K, independent of the melt preheating temperature. In contrast, the T ^– for InBi varies jumpwise with T ⁺: T ^– 1.0–1.6 K at T ⁺ < 5 K, and T ^– 16 K at T ⁺ = 5–300 K, independent of the cooling rate (varied from 0.002 to 8.0 K/s). The solidification behaviors of In₂Bi and InBi are shown to correlate with the structures of their liquid and solid phases.     

Significance of adrenal hormones in brain energy metabolism

Intensity of glycolysis was studied under conditions of immobilization stress and adrenalectomy as well as with administration of adrenaline and hydrocortisone. The processes of aerobic glycolysis, activity of enzymes of the tricarboxylic acid cycle and mitochondria respiratory chain, content of total, free and protein-bound glycogen, glucose-I-phosphate, glucose-6-phosphate, pyruvate, alpha-ketoglutarate, cytrate and macroergs in the brain are shown to depend on the level of adrenal hormones producing a multilateral effect on a series of energy metabolism links.     

Effect of hypoxemia on the erythropoietic activity of organs during perfusion

Hypoxemia (45-minute) influence in vivo on erythropoietic activity of the kidney, liver, spleen, and sternum was studied by normoxemic perfusion of the isolated organs. The erythropoietic activity proved to increase after 6-hour perfusion of the liver; this confirmed the participation of this organ in the extrarenal secretion of the erythropoietic factor.
