Prinzipien der Powerline Communication

The liberalization of the electricity and telecommunications markets has paved the way for harnessing existing electricity supply networks to transfer data from the low-voltage transformer station right through to every mains socket in a building. Powerline communication (PLC) allows for coupling power supply with data transmission. The modulation or demodulation calls for state-of-the-art, fast chip technologies as well as algorithms. According to powerline companies, the first generation of products is to be launched in the year 2001. Further development of this system depends completely on the regulation of the respective frequency levels. If regulatory measures and the market were to favor powerline technology, electric utility companies could come to play a role as telecom providers.     

Entwicklungen und Nachweisuntersuchungen von Diagnosemethoden für Wasserkraftgeneratoren

In cooperation between two utilities and two generator manufacturers the stator windings of two severely loaded motor generator sets were tested with different online methods. The selected test methods reflect the different diagnosis philosophies of these companies. In addition to different PD measuring systems, analysis of the cooling air with respect to ozone and other gaseous reaction products as well as structureborne sound diagnosis were applied. To check the coincidence of the diagnosis the test results have been individually evaluated and separately commented in this paper. Differences are discussed in a common conclusion. On account of various types of insulation defects interesting findings have been obtained.

October 1, 2001 is approaching Austria’s power supplying companies with giant strides. From that time on these companies have to meet the general conditions of the EIWOG 2000 as well as they have to fulfil the directive of the internal market of the European Union and further published statute basics from the regulator. An increased readiness for changing regarding household customers is not predictable, however, it is foreseeable that one or another power customer will switch to an alternative provider. This and further facts caused by the liberalization process lead to the situation, that on one hand there are completely new and on the other hand changed conventional business processes for the power suppliers. Traditional methods and equipment will not suffice anymore. Therefore it is necessary, that energy supply companies and offerers of IT-solutions create the appropriate solution, which is adapted for the particular power supplying company. Energy Sales & Care, a modularly constructed and always expandable product for tomorrow’s power supplier can cover this shortage in a responsible way.

In this paper we describe the scheduling of processes, threads and messages for a distributed hard-and software system (for air traffic control) which is supported by heuristics. Furthermore, we show how such application specific heuristics are linked to a reusable application framework.     

Soft eigenvalue assignment with limited disturbance feedforward and state controller norm

The method of softly assigning eigenvalues is attractive for design problems where constraining the control effort and disturbance feedforward is more important than following the exact pole location.
