Use of the thrombocyte aggregation test for detecting immune complexes circulating in the serum of cholera patients

It was shown that the blood sera of patients suffering from cholera and of persons who had sustained the disease contained specific antibodies in titres below the diagnostic level (according to the indirect hemagglutination test) caused platelet aggregation, most pronounced during the first week of the infectious process. In the presence of a specific cholera antigen the phenomenon of platelet aggregation was considerably enhanced; the indices reached the maximum when the experiment was conducted with the blood sera of those who had sustained the disease.     

Titanium-boride eutectic materials: Structure of titanium-rich Ti-Ge-B alloys and phase equilibria at crystallization temperatures

Phase equilibria in the Ti-TiB₂-Ti₅Ge₃ region of the Ti-Ge-B system are experimentally investigated at melting/solidification temperatures using x-ray diffraction, metallography, EMPA, and differential thermal analysis. Potentiation and restitution of the myocardial contractility of rats adapted to physical stress

Initial contractile amplitude of the myocardial strips determined the inotropic response to paired stimulation. The higher the initial amplitude -- the lesser the degree of potentiation and the greater the degree of contraction restitution. At equal amplitudes the myocardial strips taken from rats adapted to exercise showed a greater degree of potentiation and a lesser degree of restitution as compared to control. These changes appear to be due to the changes in the ionic transport in the myocardial cells.     

Effect of temperature on homoeotic mutation expression in Drosophila. I. Homoeotic transformation in Proboscipedia mutants

It is generally adopted that the homoeotic gene proboscipedia causes the transformation of the distal parts of proboscis into corresponding tarsal or antennal (aristal) segments. It is shown that actually the homoeotic effect of the mutation proboscipedia consists in the transformation of the oral lobes of proboscis into a whole prothoracic leg. Sometimes the distal parts of the homoeotic leg (segments of tarsus, claws) can coexist with or be substituted for by the aristal filaments. The transformation of oral lobes of proboscic into the leg is most conspicuous at 29 degrees C, while at 16 degrees C the substitution of tarsal structures by aristal ones is observed more frequently. The homology between the corresponding elements of the proboscis, legs and antenna (as revealed by the pattern of homoeosis) is discussed.     

Hydroxyurea synchronization of cellular proliferation in the esophageal epithelium of mice with tumors

The synchronizing effect of hydroxyurea on the passage of the esophagus epithelia cells through the stage of the DNA synthesis and mitosis was investigated in albino mice bearing sarcoma. Dinrnal variations in the number of epithelial cells at these stages of the mitotic cycle were taken into consideration. Two mutually complementary indices for the measurement of the shifts in the cell population and the rate of the synchronization are used. Two cell groups which passed the S-phase and mitosis synchronously were found in artificial synchronization in the esophageal epithelium. The synchronization indices characterizing the first group were lower than control. In the second group the cell count during the DNA synthesis was double as compared with the number of cells synthesizing DNA in natural synchronization; however, the rate of the changes in the synchronism was the same in the experimental and control groups.
