Principles of radiorace formation in yeasts. Report 8. Study of the role of heterozygosity of diploid yeasts in the formation of radiorace

Plasma and erythrocyte vitamin B12 was measured in apparently healthy Indian lactovegetarians and compared with the healthy non-vegetarians from the same population. Comparison of the mean values for routine haematological parameters revealed no significant difference in various dietetic groups. The plasma vitamin B12 levels were distinctly lower in the lactovegetarians than in the non-vegetarians. However, the mean erythrocyte vitamin B12 levels in different dietetic groups showed no significant difference.     

Wetting between parallel fibres; column-unduloid and column disintegration transitions

Wetting phenomena are studied for a fibre bundle consisting of three parallel cylinders of radius b. Two types of long liquid column (a disintegrated and a channel-filling column) and a state akin to the unduloid can form, depending on whether the cylinder-cylinder separation, 2d, is larger or smaller than certain critical values. The dimensionless threshold values d/b have been calculated, when gravity can be neglected and the liquid-fibre contact angle is zero. The threshold value for the morphological transition between disintegrated columns and channel-filling columns occurs for (d/b)tr1 = 0.07869, and the transition between channel-filling column and unduloid sets in when (d/b)tr2 = 2.85337. The existence of the first type of morphological transition is validated by computer simulation based on the Ising model and the Monte Carlo method, as well as by experiments carried out with steel cylinders and epoxy resin.     

Using capillary isotachophoresis for the determination of biogenic amines and D-isocitric acid in food products

This paper presents results achieved in the determination of biogenic amines in various food products and quality evaluation of some commercial orange juices by capillary isotachophoresis. The highest amount of histamine was determined in frankfurters (146.75 mg x kg(-1)); the content of tyramine was either under detection limit of method or it was present in very low concentrations. The highest amount of cadaverine was determined in Karicka cheese (666.36 mg x kg(-1)). The limit of determination was 1.59 mg x kg(-1) for histamine and 1.25 mg x kg(-1) for tyramine. The recovery of method ranged from 95.4 to 104.9%. Surprisingly it was found that many organge juice samples did not reach required values according to the Code of Practice. The lowest ratio of citric to D-isocitric acids was found in Happy day juice (44.1). Limit of determination was 1.62 mg x dm(-3) for citric acid and 2.00 mg x dm(-3) for D-isocitric acid. The recovery of the method ranged from 89 to 96.5%.
