Efforts have been made to establish the chemical constitution of water-blown polyurethane foams. Specific reagents have been used to indicate the presence of biuret or allophanate linkages. Partial hydrolysis techniques have been used to degrade foams selectively and hence isolate parts of the chain network. These methods yield information which is not satisfactorily obtained from the examination of undegraded polymer and which is not available after total degradation. It has been shown that polyureatype linkages are present in the chain network of both polyester and polyether foams.  相似文献

Suspended solids were collected from 105 streams on the Canadian side of the Great Lakes during snow melt and spring flow between 1974 and 1977. Analyses were performed for organochlorine and organophosphorus insecticides and three industrial chemicals. All streams sampled contained suspended solids that were contaminated with DDT, its metabolites, and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). The highest mean concentrations of ΣDDT (356 μg/kg) occurred in 1974 from streams draining the Niagara Peninsula and entering Lake Ontario; these were correlated to areas of high use on fruit in the past. The highest loadings by lake section, however, were along the north shore of Lake Erie involving a very much larger delivery of suspended solids. The highest concentrations of PCB were on suspended solids entering Lake Ontario in 1974 along the northern (191 μg/kg) and southwestern (172 μg/kg) shore and were associated with the high urban-industrial activity in the megalopolis of Hamilton-Burlington-Oakville-Mississauga-Toronto. However, the highest loadings occurred along Lake St. Clair where two large rivers, the Thames and Sydenham, discharge a much larger volume of suspended solids. The highest individual concentrations of HEOD (dieldrin) were found on suspended solids in two streams entering along the southwestern shoreline of Lake Ontario. However, the highest mean residues on solids for all streams was in waters entering Lake Erie (3 μg/kg) and the highest loadings were into Lake St. Clair. Endosulfan, chlordane, and heptachlor epoxide were detected in some streams entering all five lakes. No aldrin, endrin, mirex, heptachlor, or organophosphorus insecticides were detected.  相似文献

The advent of cell synchrony as a refinement in technique for cultivating microbes has given new dimensions to the study of microbial growth. By wedding synchrony to continuous culture, it becomes possible to convert and resolve the invariant (steady state) performance of asynchronous growth in a chemostat into a recognisable pattern of (cell cycle) activity, which repeats continually and occupies the mean doubling time periods of the cells growing in synchrony in a continuously synchronised culture. In this way, microbial growth and metabolism in a culture can be considered in terms of the individual cell instead of being related to the statistical mean of the cell population. Growth, continuous growth and continuously synchronised growth are considered in relation to these developments and an approach is made to account for the “physiological state”.  相似文献

The phospholipase C of clostridium welchii (alpha toxin) has an absolute requirement for trace quantities of Ca2+. It attacks pure phosphatidylcholine particles (smectic mesophases) having a close-packed bilayer structure only when their surface zeta potential is made positive by the addition of certain divalent ions (e.g., Ca2+) to the aqueous phase or by the presence of low concentrations of long chain cations to the lipid. Alternatively, if the rotational freedom of individual phospholipid molecules is increased by the insertion of short n-alkanols (e.g., hexanol) into the bilayer or when a monolayer of the substrate at an air/water interface is expended, enzymic hydrolysis can occur without any requirement for a net postive charge on the surface.  相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are wide spread environmental pollutants. This research focused the optimum physico-chemical conditions under which photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) can be used to degrade 2,2',3,3'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (tetra-CB). Among the optimal physico-chemical conditions studied were UV intensity, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) concentrations, initial pH, and possible reaction intermediates were also determined. The results indicate that the optimal physico-chemical conditions necessary for the degradation of tetra-CB by PCO were UV intensity at 3.16 mW/cm2, 30 mM of H2O2 and 100 mg/l of TiO2. In contrast to the results of PCO studies on other organic compounds, the optimum pH for PCO degradation of tetra-CB was 5.5. The removal efficiency was also higher under acidic conditions than alkaline conditions. Although degradation intermediates such as 1,3-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)benzene, 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)phenol, and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde were identified at an early stage in the reaction process, they were not completely degraded even after 7h of PCO reaction.  相似文献

Systematic and quantitative management of work-related fatigue within workplaces has been a challenging task due to a lack of useful tools. A previous paper provided background and development of a work-related fatigue modelling approach. The current paper outlines model evaluations using sleep deprivation experiments and recommendations of work scheduling. Previous studies have reported cumulative effects of sleep restriction (4-5 h per night) on a number of measures. Model predictions were correlated against psychomotor vigilance task lapses (r = 0.92) and reaction time responses (slowest 10%, r = 0.91) as well as sleep latency (r = -0.97). Further correlations were performed on four measures from a 64 h continuous sleep deprivation study; that is objective vigilance (r = -0.75) as well as subjective performance (r = -0.75), sleepiness (r = 0.82) and tiredness (r = 0.79). Evaluation against current scheduling recommendations illustrated consistency with the literature with the exception that forward rotation did not provide benefits over backward rotation. The results indicate that model predictions correlate well across a range of objective and subjective measures. This relationship also appears to hold for cumulative and continuous sleep deprivation protocols. Future studies will also focus on field-based evaluation.  相似文献

The laser alignment system of the ZEUS microvertex detector is described. The detector was installed in 2001 as part of an upgrade programme in preparation for the second phase of electron–proton physics at the HERA collider. The alignment system monitors the position of the vertex detector support structure with respect to the central tracking detector using semi-transparent amorphous-silicon sensors and diode lasers. The system is fully integrated into the general environmental monitoring of the ZEUS detector and data has been collected over a period of 5 years. The primary aim of defining periods of stability for track-based alignment has been achieved and the system is able to measure movements of the support structure to a precision around .  相似文献

An enhanced insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) model based on the Kraus model with new derivations based on an extra parameter accounting for p-i-n injection was developed to allow simulation of both trench and DMOS IGBT structures. Temperature dependence was also implemented in the model. The model was validated against steady-state and transient measurements done on an 800-A 1.7-kV Dynex IGBT module at 25/spl deg/C and 125/spl deg/C. The Spice model has also shown excellent agreement with mixed mode MEDICI simulations. The Spice model also takes into account for the first time the parasitic thyristor effect allowing the dc and dynamic temperature-dependent latchup modeling of power modules as well as their temperature-dependent safe operating area.  相似文献

This paper derives a learning control law to achieve trajectory following for a robot manipulator. The controller consists of two parts, a computed torque servo for the rigid body terms that can be modelled and a learning law for the unmodelled dynamics.
