Pipe production from continuous-cast high-alloy steel blanks

Experiments are conducted on pipe production from continuous-cast billet made of TP 304L and TP 316L corrosion-resistant steel from various suppliers. A wide range of pipe is industrially produced by hot pressing and cold and hot rolling. Assessment of pipe quality shows compliance with the relevant standards.     

Optimization of integral-code measuring systems for planar tomography constructed using extended pseudorandom sequences

A recently proposed new large class of one-dimensional binary sequences, called extended pseudorandom sequences, is investigated. It is shown that they enable one, in practice, to optimize a radiation-physical experiment and to solve problems of emission planar tomography more effectively using integral-code measurement systems.     

Development and implementation of monitoring for the reactor core of unit No. 5 of the Novovoronezh nuclear plant by local parameters

In the course of upgrading the unit no. 5 reactor core of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant, operational limits by local parameters, which limit the admissible linear power density and the relative power of fuel elements, were established. Due to applying modern computer technologies in systems of the in-core monitoring, the calculation of power density for all fuel elements in the real-time mode is implemented. To monitor the power density of fuel elements, the algorithm for determining the limiting linear power density is developed depending on the reactor core height and on the average nuclear fuel burnup. The admissible relative power of fuel elements is determined. In the course of the performed work, the excessive conservative limitations on nonuniformity of the reactor power density are excluded. The monitoring of power density by local parameters instead of indirect K _q (fuel-assembly relative power) and K _v (relative power of the fuel assembly section) made it possible to increase the fuel efficiency and to improve the economic parameters of fuel cycles of the unit no. 5 reactor core of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant.     

Structure of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene–air counterflow flame

The combustion of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) in airflow perpendicular to the polyethylene surface (counterflow flame) was studied in detail. The burning rate of pressed samples of UHMWPE was measured. The structure of the UHMWPE–air counterflow flame was first determined by mass spectrometric sampling taking into account heavy products. The composition of the main pyrolysis products was investigated by mass spectrometry, and the composition of heavy hydrocarbons (C₇—C₂₅) in products sampled from the flame at a distance of 0.8 mm from the UHMWPE surface was analyzed by gas-liquid chromatography mass-spectrometry. The temperature and concentration profiles of eight species (N₂, O₂, CO₂, CO, H₂O, C₃H₆, C₄H₆, and C₆H₆) and a hypothetical species with an average molecular weight of 258.7 g/mol, which simulates more than 50 C₇—C₂₅ hydrocarbons were measured. The structure of the diffusion flame of the model mixture of decomposition products of UHMWPE in air counterflow was simulated using the OPPDIF code from the CHEMKIN II software package. The simulation results are in good agreement with experimental data on combustion of UHMWPE.     

On Increase in Efficiency of Luminescent Concentration of Mineral Raw Material

The ways are considered for increasing the efficiency of luminescent separation of many types of mineral raw material due to the presence of calcite in them. The versatility of luminescent method for mineral raw material separation is shown by studying apatite-calcite ore beneficiation.     

Interaction of L-glutamic acid with human T-lymphocytes

A specific interaction of [3H]Glu with T lymphocytes from the blood of healthy donors (Kd = 0.236 microM) was revealed and described. It was found that unlabeled quisqualate, a structural analogue of L-glutamic acid, and unlabeled dipeptides Ala-Glu, Glu-Ala, and Glu-Glu competitively inhibit the specific binding of [3H]Glu to T lymphocytes (with Ki 0.19, 2.4, 3.4, and 1.2 microM, respectively). Binding experiments with conjugates of labeled and unlabeled glutamic acid with dextran showed that the receptors of [3H]Glu are localized on the outer surface of the plasma membrane of T lymphocytes.     

The regulatory mechanisms of the blood respiratory function in iron-deficiency anemias

Experience of vascular thrombosis prophylaxis and treatment after reconstructive operation conduction on abdominal aorta and peripheral arteries in 244 patients, including 112 of them immediately after the operation, 32-up to one year time, 100-in long-term follow-up period was summarized. Main aetiological cause for thrombosis occurrence immediately after the operation were technical and tactical failures committed during its conduction, in the early postoperative period-the neointima hyperplasia in the anastomosis area, in late terms-the blood outflow disorder from the reconstructed segment due to the atherosclerosis progression. Original methods of reoperation conduction for the transplant thrombosis and the outflow arteries reconstruction were proposed. Mortality lowering from 8.8 to 5.3% and the extremity revascularization occurrence, in 75% of patients immediately after the operation and in 84%-in long-term period was promoted owing to tactics of postoperative thrombosis treatment elaborated.     

Extended ternary sequences and two-dimensional coding collimators based on them

A new extensive class of one-dimensional ternary (−1, 0, +1)-sequences, called extended ternary sequences, is proposed, which enables radiation-physics experiments to be more completely optimized and enables problems of emission planar tomography to be solved more effectively using code-based integrated measurement systems. __________ Translated from Izmeritel'naya Tekhnika, No. 8, pp. 62–68, August, 2008
