The purpose of this paper is to present an algorithm developed for real-time estimation of skeletal muscle ischemia, based on parameters extracted from in vivo obtained electrical impedance spectra. A custom impedance spectrometer was used to acquire data sets: complex impedance spectra measured at 27 frequencies in the range of 100 Hz-1 MHz, and tissue pH. Twenty-nine in vivo animal studies on rabbit anterior tibialis muscle were performed to gather data on the behavior of tissue impedance during ischemia. An artificial neural network (ANN) was used to quantitatively describe the relationship between the parameters of complex tissue impedance spectra and tissue ischemia via pH. The ANN was trained on 1249, and tested on 946 ischemic tissue impedance data sets. A correlation of 94.5% and a standard deviation of 0.15 pH units was achieved between the ANN estimated pH and measured tissue pH values.  相似文献

A Practical Cross-Layer Mechanism For Fairness in 802.11 Networks   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Many companies, organizations and communities are providing wireless hotspots that provide networking access using 802.11b wireless networks. Since wireless networks are more sensitive to variations in bandwidth and environmental interference than wired networks, most networks support a number of transmission rates that have different error and bandwidth properties. Access points can communicate with multiple clients running at different rates, but this leads to unfair bandwidth allocation. If an access point communicates with a mix of clients using both 1 Mb/s and 11 Mb/s transmission rates, the faster clients are effectively throttled to 1 Mb/s as well. This happens because the 802.11 MAC protocol approximate “station fairness”, with each station given an equal chance to access the media. We provide a solution to provide “rate proportional fairness”, where the 11 Mb/s stations receive more bandwidth than the 1 Mb/s stations. Unlike previous solutions to this problem, our mechanism is easy to implement, works with common operating systems and requires no change to the MAC protocol or the stations. Joseph Dunn received an M.S. in computer science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2003, and B. S. in coputer science and mathematics from the University of Arizona in 2001. His research interests are in the general area of computer systems, primarily focusing on security and scalability in distributed systems. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Michael Neufeld received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in December of 2004, having previously received an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2000 and an A.B. in Computer Science from Princeton University in 1993. His research interests are in the general area of computer system, specifically concentrating on wireless networking, software defind/cognitive radio, and streerable antennas. He is currently a postdoc in the Computer Science department at the University of Calorado at Boulder pursuing research related to software defined radio and new MAC protocols for steerable phase array antennas. Anmol Sheth is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Pune, India in 2001. He has been co-leading the development of the MANTIS operating system. He has co-authored three papers include MAC layer protocol design, energy-efficient wireless communication, and adapting communications to mobility. Dirk Grunwald received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1989 and joined the University of Colorado the same year. His work addresses research and teaching in the broad area of “computer systems”, which includes computer architecture, operating systems, networks, and storage systems. His interests also include issues in pervasive computing, novel computing models, and enjoying the mountains. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and in Electrical and Computer Engineering and is also the Director of the Colorado Center for Information Storage. John Bennett is a Professor of Computer Science with a joint appointment in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He also serves as Associate Dean for Education in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. He joined the CU-Boulder faculty in 2000, after serving on the faculty of Rice University for 11 years. While at Rice, Bennett pioneered a course in engineering design for both engineering and non-engineering students that has been emulated at several universities and high schools. In addition to other teaching awards, Bennett received the Keck Foundation National Award for Engineering Teaching Excellence for his work on this course. Bennett received his Ph.D. in 1988 from the University of Washington. Prior to completing his doctoral studies, he was a U.S. Naval Officer for several years and founded and served as President of Pacific Mountain Research, Inc., where he supervised the design and development of a number of commercial computing systems. Bennett's primary research interests are broadly focused in the area of distributed systems, and more narrowly in distributed information management and distributed robotic macrosensors.  相似文献

A spherical Luneberg-lens reflector provides excellent passive wideband and wide-angular radar-signature augmentation, and has been widely used. Much of its signature-enhancement performance over half of its angular coverage can potentially be achieved by using a corresponding low-profile, hemispherical Luneberg-lens reflector, mounted on a reflective ground plane. This paper presents a quantitative study of a practical design of an off-the-shelf hemispherical Luneberg-lens reflector to gain insight and to fully explore its performance limits. Extensive wideband and wide-angle measurements were carried out for this lens configuration, and a comprehensive numerical analysis was also conducted, using the finite-element method combined with a boundary integral equation to complement the test data. The effect, in practice, of a finite-sized ground plane, and the resulting vertically polarized traveling-wave interference to the direct lens reflector's return, were demonstrated. Key design issues are discussed, and potential solutions are suggested.  相似文献

Both environmental and economic factors have driven the development of recycling routes for the increasing amount of composite waste generated. This paper presents a new paradigm to fully recycle epoxy‐based carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. After immersing the composite in ethylene glycol (EG) and increasing the temperature, the epoxy matrix can be dissolved as the EG molecules participate in bond exchange reactions (BERs) within the covalent adaptable network (CAN), effectively breaking the long polymer chains into small segments. The clean carbon fibers can be then reclaimed with the same dimensions and mechanical properties as those of fresh ones. Both the dissolution rate and the minimum amount of EG required to fully dissolve the CAN are experimentally determined. Further heating the dissolved solution leads to repolymerization of the epoxy matrix, so a new generation of composite can be fabricated by using the recycled fiber and epoxy; in this way a closed‐loop near 100% recycling paradigm is realized. In addition, epoxy composites with surface damage are shown to be fully repaired. Both the recycled and the repaired composites exhibit the same level of mechanical properties as fresh materials.  相似文献

We discuss the demonstration of gain-saturated high repetition rate table-top soft X-ray lasers producing microwatt average powers at wavelengths ranging from 13.9 to 33 nm. The results were obtained heating a precreated plasma with a picosecond optical laser pulse impinging at grazing incidence onto a precreated plasma. This pumping geometry increases the energy deposition efficiency of the pump beam into the gain region, making it possible to saturate soft X-ray lasers in this wavelength range with a short pulse pump energy of only 1 J at 800-nm wavelength. Results corresponding to 5-Hz repetition rate operation of gain-saturated 14.7-nm Ni-like Pd and 32.6-nm line Ne-like Ti lasers pumped by a table-top Ti:sapphire laser are reported. We also discuss results obtained using a 1 /spl omega/1054-nm prepulse and 2 /spl omega/527-nm short pulse from a Nd:glass pump laser. This work demonstrates the feasibility of producing compact high average power soft X-ray lasers for applications.  相似文献

Numerical simulations of body-of-revolution geometries for scattering and radiation problems are presented. The formulation consists of a finite element-boundary integral (FE-BI) method which is based on a finite element method that uses higher order nodal-based scalar basis functions for the azimuthal field component and higher order edge-based vector basis functions for the transverse field. This formulation, when combined with a symmetric FE-BI hybridization scheme, yields a final system of equations that is more accurate than earlier first-order formulations. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the accuracy and capabilities of the higher order solution.  相似文献

Combustion‐driven thermophotovoltaic (TPV) systems have obtained increasing attention in recent decades, but most studies have focused on developing narrowband photovoltaic cells and selective emitters. In terms of the heat source, conventional combustion configurations and light gaseous fuels are extensively utilized in macro‐ or meso‐scale TPV power systems to simplify thermal management and mechanical fabrication. As far as miniaturization is concerned, however, fuelling these systems with liquid hydrocarbons would provide inherent advantages of high energy density and low volatility. Liquid fuels also promise easy and safe fuel recharging for small‐scale power systems. In this paper, a central porous‐medium combustor was employed in a small scale TPV power system. The combustor incorporated an emitting chamber wall and a heat recuperator. The radiant efficiency and overall efficiency were compared using different liquid hydrocarbon fuels in the system. The electric output characteristics of the combustion driven TPV system have been investigated to demonstrate the feasibility of a GaSb cell‐based TPV power system and to provide design guidance for mesoscale liquid‐burning TPV systems. A pulsed singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO) has been constructed which can provide tunable coherent radiation over the entire wavelength range extending from 354 nm in the near ultraviolet, throughout the visible, to 2.370 μm in the near infrared using a single β-BaB2O4 crystal. The oscillator is pumped at 308 nm by a pulsed narrow band injection-seeded XeCl excimer laser in a near-field pumping configuration, and energy conversion efficiencies (optical-to-optical) in excess of 10% have been obtained in a 12-nm-long crystal across the OPO tuning range. The requirements placed upon the spectral and spatial coherence of the pump laser for optimum OPO operation are discussed. Experimental results on several oscillator parameters, including tuning range, oscillation threshold, energy conversion efficiency, and spatial and temporal characteristics, are presented  相似文献
