Transport of oligonucleotides across natural and model membranes

Oligo- and polynucleotides can not diffuse through lipid membrane, however they are taken up by eukaryotic cells by endocytosis mediated by the nucleic acid specific receptors. The compounds find some way to escape from endosomes and reach nucleic acids in both cell nucleus and cytoplasm. Oligonucleotides bind to a few cell surface proteins which take part in the virus-cell interaction and in the development of immune response. Interaction of nucleic acids with cell surface proteins may play a role in development of some pathologies. The biological role of this interaction is unclear. Efficient delivery of oligonucleotides into eukaryotic cells can be achieved in some conditions by natural mechanisms and by using artificial carriers--membrane vehicles and cationic polymer micelles.

The hepatoprotective action of ellagotannins

A method of laser prevention of periodontal complications in patients with whole-cast and cermet dentures is described. Optodan automated laser physiotherapeutic device made in Russia was employed. Exposure was performed at a wavelength 0.85 mm, power 4 W, and frequency 0.8-2 kHz. The prevention was effective in 97% patients.     

Causes of disorders of vitally significant functions in surgical treatment of extracerebral parastem tumors of the posterior cranial fossa

A total of 254 Kievites of both sexes 19 to 35 years old were examined over 1987-1990. Revealed in the above population were alterations of the functional state of the liver characterizing the amino acid, lipid, and nucleotide metabolisms and suggesting impaired permeability of hepatocytic membranes, inadequate energy security of hepatic cells, and indicating the intrahepatic circulation state and bodily immune reactivity.     

Effect of furosemide on the transport of organic substances in the kidneys

The influence of furosemide on the maximal glucose reabsorption, cardiotrast secretion and urate excretion was studied in chronic experiment. Single injection of furosemide increased the maximal glucose reabsorption in dogs. Thesere was no alteration in the secretory cardiotrast transport in response to the drug administration. Furosemide administration produced an uricosuric action in dogs and rats.
