In the rat the exact role of vagal fibers and the interaction between the extrinsic and intrinsic neural system in distention-induced gastrin release are still a matter of debate. Accordingly, the aim of the present study was to examine the contribution of afferent and efferent vagal fibers as well as intrinsic neurons on gastrin response to gastric distention. In anesthetized rats graded gastric distention by 5, 10 and 15 ml saline for 20 min caused a significant volume-dependent increase of plasma gastrin levels by 12+/-6 pg/ml (5 ml saline, n = 8, P =0.05), 26+/-7 pg/ml (10 ml saline, n = 10, P < 0.05) and 37+/-7 pg/ml (15 ml saline, n = 8, P < 0.01 ), respectively. To examine the role of the extrinsic vagal innervation, gastrin response to distention was studied in anesthetized rats after bilateral truncal vagotomy (n = 9) or selective afferent vagotomy following pretreatment with capsaicin (n = 6). Stimulation of gastrin release by 10 ml distention in sham-operated control rats was reversed to an inhibition after truncal vagotomy (26+/-7 vs. -11+/-4 pg/ml; P<0.05) and capsaicin-treatment (37+/-18 vs. -34+/-11 pg/ml; P<0.05). A contribution of cholinergic mechanisms to this vagovagal-mediated stimulation of distention-induced gastrin release was excluded, since atropine (100 microg/kg/h; n = 8) further augmented distention-stimulated gastrin release. Since bombesin/gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP)-neurons contribute to vagally stimulated gastrin secretion, we have examined gastrin response to distention in the presence of the specific bombesin-receptor antagonist D-Phe6-BN(6-13)OMe (400 microg/kg/h: n = 10). This bombesin-antagonist completely reduced distention-stimulated gastrin release in vivo. In contrast, distention of the isolated, extrinsically denervated stomach significantly decreased gastrin release by 13+/-5 pg/min (5 ml saline, n = 8, P < 0.05), 28+/-8 pg/min (10 ml saline, n = 11, P < 0.05) and 35+/-10 pg/min (15 ml saline, n = 8, P < 0.01), respectively, without changing the activity of bombesin/GRP-neurons. Distention-induced decrease of gastrin release was attenuated to 50 percent by atropine (10(-7) M: n = 10) or tetrodotoxin (TTX) (10(-6) M; n = 10), respectively. These data demonstrate, that in anesthetized rats distention-stimulated gastrin secretion depends on the activation of a vagovagal reflex and intrinsic bombesin/GRP-neurons. In contrast distention of the isolated rat stomach inhibits gastrin release in part via intrinsic cholinergic pathways and other as yet unknown mechanisms.  相似文献

Metal oxide materials are widely used for gas sensing. Capable of operating at elevated temperatures and in harsh environments, they are mechanically robust and relatively inexpensive and offer exquisite sensing capabilities, the performance of which is dependent upon the nanoscale morphology. In this paper we first review different routes for the fabrication of metal oxide nanoarchitectures useful to sensing applications, including mesoporous thin films, nanowires, and nanotubes. Two sensor test cases are then presented. The first case examines the use of highly uniform nanoporous Al2O3 for humidity sensing; we find that such materials can be successfully used as a wide-range humidity sensor. The second test case examines the use of TiO2 nanotubes for hydrogen sensing. Going from a nitrogen atmosphere to one containing 1000 ppm of hydrogen, at 290 degrees C, 22-nm-diameter titania nanotubes demonstrate a 10(4) change in measured resistance with no measurement hysteresis.  相似文献

Photoresponse of isolated Nb(2)O(5) nanowires (NW) padded with platinum (Pt) at both ends were studied with global irradiation by a laser beam and localized irradiation using a focused laser beam. Global laser irradiation on individual NW in ambient and vacuum conditions revealed photocurrent contributions with different time characteristics (rapid and slowly varying components) arising from defect level excitations, thermal heating effect, surface states and NW-Pt contacts. With a spot size of < 1 μm, localized irradiation highlighted the fact that the measured photocurrent in this single NW device (with and without applied bias) depended sensitively on the photoresponse at the NW-Pt contacts. At applied bias, unidirectional photocurrent was observed and higher photocurrent was achieved with localized laser irradiation at reverse-biased NW-Pt contacts. At zero bias, the opposite polarity of photocurrents was detected when the two NW-Pt contacts were subjected to focused laser beam irradiation. A reduced Schottky barrier/width resulting from an increase in charge carriers and thermoelectric effects arising from the localized thermal heating due to focused laser beam irradiation were proposed as the mechanisms dictating the photocurrent at the NW-Pt interface. Comparison of photocurrents generated upon global and localized laser irradiation showed that the main contribution to the photocurrent was largely due to the photoresponse of the NW-Pt contacts.  相似文献

MgB2 bulk samples added with nano SiO2 and/or nano diamond were prepared by powder-in-sealed-tube (PIST) method and the effects of addition on structural and superconducting properties were studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the addition caused systematic reduction in ‘a’ lattice parameter due to the substitution of C atoms at B sites and the strain caused by reacted intragrain nano particles of Mg2Si as evinced by transmission electron microscope image. Scanning electron microscopy images showed distinct microstructural variations with SiO2/diamond addition. It was evident from DC magnetization measurements that the in-field critical current density [JC(H)] of doped samples did not fall drastically like the undoped sample. Among the doped samples the JC(H) of co-doped samples were significantly higher and the best co-doped sample yielded a JC, an order of magnitude more than the undoped one at 5 K and 8 T.  相似文献

Approaches that enable innate repair mechanisms hold great potential for tissue repair. Herein, biomaterial-assisted sequestration of small molecules is described to localize pro-regenerative signaling at the injury site. Specifically, a synthetic biomaterial containing boronate molecules is designed to sequester adenosine, a small molecule ubiquitously present in the human body. The biomaterial-assisted sequestration of adenosine leverages the transient surge of extracellular adenosine following injury to prolong local adenosine signaling. It is demonstrated that implantation of the biomaterial patch following injury establishes an in situ stockpile of adenosine, resulting in accelerated healing by promoting both osteoblastogenesis and angiogenesis. The adenosine content within the patch recedes to the physiological level as the tissue regenerates. In addition to sequestering endogenous adenosine, the biomaterial is also able to deliver exogenous adenosine to the site of injury, offering a versatile solution to utilizing adenosine as a potential therapeutic for tissue repair.  相似文献

Nouy and Clement introduced the stochastic extended finite element method to solve linear elasticity problem defined on random domain. The material properties and boundary conditions were assumed to be deterministic. In this work, we extend this framework to account for multiple independent input uncertainties, namely, material, geometry, and external force uncertainties. The stochastic field is represented using the polynomial chaos expansion. The challenge in numerical integration over multidimensional probabilistic space is addressed using the pseudo-spectral Galerkin method. Thereafter, a sensitivity analysis based on Sobol indices using the derived stochastic extended Finite Element Method solution is presented. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed novel framework against conventional Monte Carlo methods is elucidated in detail for a few one and two dimensional problems.  相似文献

The dependency structure matrix (DSM) has been identified as an apt tool to represent information flows between activities. Using this representation, information dependency attributes can be organized and analyzed in a structured manner to identify activity groups and sequences for concurrent execution. Current DSM methodology requires significant efforts from the experts to estimate information dependency attributes. The methodology can be more widely used if the estimating efforts are reduced. This paper proposes two concepts to reduce the estimating efforts required for the DSM methodology. The first concept reduces the number of information dependency ratings required and the second concept reduces the effort to estimate the rating. The proposed concepts are structured into a procedure. This procedure is applied to the design phase of an induced draft cooling tower (IDCT) project and discussed. The paper also discusses the shortcomings and future directions of the present approach and concludes that the present approach is applicable in IDCT projects and can be extended to other types of projects.  相似文献

The work reported in this paper is motivated towards the development of a mathematical model for swarm systems based on macroscopic primitives. A pattern formation and transformation model is proposed. The pattern transformation model comprises two general methods for pattern transformation, namely a macroscopic transformation method and a mathematical transformation method. The problem of transformation is formally expressed and four special cases of transformation are considered. Simulations to confirm the feasibility of the proposed models and transformation methods are presented. Comparison between the two transformation methods is also reported.  相似文献
