A fatigue crack may propagate by the mechanism of crack tip cyclic plastic deformation, by the mechanism of fracture of brittle particles and embrittled grain boundaries,or, often, by a combination of both. Neutnann and Vehoff have made in situ observations of alternate shear decohhesions on two intersecting conjugate slip bands at a crack tip as the basic mechanism of fatigue crack growth. It is a mechanism by plastic deformation.
A micro-mechanism based finite element model is made to simulate the unzipping process of the crack tip shear decohesion mechanism. The calculated crack growth rates by the finite element model agree very well with the measured rates in the intermediate K region of a number of materials
Résumé La propagation d'une fissure de fatigue peut être due au mécanisme de déformation plastique cyclique de l'extrémité de la fissure, au mécanisme de rupture de portions fragiles et de frontières de grains fragilisées ou, souvent, à une combinaison de ces deux mécanismes.Neumann et Vehoff ont procédé à des observations in situ des décohésions par cisaillement alterné dans deux bandes de glissement s'intersectant à l'extrémité d'une fissure, et ont décrit ce mécanisme par déformation plastique comme un mécanisme de base de la propagation d'une fissure de fatigue.En vue de simuler le processus d'ouverture qui régit le mécanisme de décohésion par cisaillement à l'extrémité dame fissure, on élabore un modèle par éléments finis basé sur un mécanisme à échelle microscopique. On trouve que les vitesses de propagation d'une fissure calculées grâce à ce modèle par éléments finis sont en très bon accord lvee les vitesses mesurées dans la zone des K intermédiaries et pour plusieurs matériaux.相似文献

The dielectric constant and spontaneous polarization of fine-grained BaTiO(3) prepared from powder produced by metalloorganic decomposition technology were studied. The room-temperature dielectric constant of BaTiO(3) was found to increase sharply with increase in grain size, reach a maximum at about 0.4 mum, and decrease with further increase in grain size. Spontaneous polarization continuously decreased with decrease in grain size. A model is proposed to explain the grain size dependence of the dielectric constant. 相似文献

Men and equipment in space vehicles in low earth orbit are exposed to a wide variety of radiations, but the majority of the dose is due to trapped protons, which have energies of the order of 100 MeV and are low LET particles. These high energy particles produce nuclear fragmentation with high LET secondaries that may be responsible for a significant fraction of dose equivalent. In order to understand better the biological effectiveness of this radiation environment, a portable tissue equivalent proportional counter spectrometer has been developed that automatically records the distribution of energy in a small tissue-like site as a function of time. This instrument weighs about 700 g and will be flown on a number of future space shuttle flights. 相似文献

Garbage collection can be done in vector mode on supercomputers like the CRAY-2 and the Cyber 205. Both copying collection and mark-and-sweep can be expressed as breadth-first searches in which the queue can be processed in parallel. We have designed a copying garbage collector whose inner loop works entirely in vector mode. We give performance measurements of the algorithm as implemented for Lisp CONS cells on the Cyber 205. A study on the value metal character of Zr in 0.1 M solutions of H2SO4, HNO3, and H3PO4 has been performed using the anode potential as the primary variable in galvanostatic, potentiostatic, and capacity measurements. A method of surface pre-treatment, which suppresses both O2 evolution and metal dissolution, has been described. Kinetic parameters of oxide growth have been calculated. The results indicate that:
- (i) the high field approximation is applicable following an exponential law, and
- (ii) the height and activation distance of the energy barrier for ion transport through the oxide phase (Verwey model) are the same three acids.

We study strong-coupling effects on the slope of the magnetization curve at the upper critical field of a type II superconductor, parametrized by the generalized Ginzburg-Landau parameter 2. The use of the quasiclassical approach to the BCS-Gorkov theory, valid for all temperatures, allows us to present the calculations in a transparent manner. We obtain closed expressions for 2 in terms of the solution of the eigenvalue problem determining the upper critical field, which we evaluate numerically. In the theory of thin fluid sheets, governing equations are derived with specific reference to an assumed simple kinematic structure of the flow. There is a separate set of governing equations associated with each degree of complexity of the kinematic structure, forming a hierarchy of models (Green and Naghdi [3] and Shields and Webster [8]). If one is interested in the velocity profile across the sheet, the kinematic structure can be used again to interpret the variables in the governing equations as an approximate flow. This paper is concerned with the properties of this approximate flow.Two important consequences of the field equations (Euler's equations) in the classical, three-dimensional theory of ideal fluids are: conservation of mechanical energy, and conservation of circulation (Kelvin's theorem). The research reported herein provides a proof that mechanical energy is exactly conserved for the approximate flow in each level in this hierarchy. Two types of circulation are considered in the approximate flow: in-sheet circulation which is computed about circuits lying a fixed fractional distance between the top and bottom surfaces of the sheet, and cross-sheet circulation which is computed about circuits lying in a vertical cylindrical surface. It was found that K moments of the in-sheet circulation and K – 1 weighted moments of the cross-sheet circulation are conserved in the Kth level approximate flow. 相似文献

Lithium zinc silicate glasses are of interest for the preparation of moderately high thermal expansion glass-ceramics which are suitable for sealing to a number of nickel-based superalloys. The effect of composition, in particular the variation of nucleating species, on the crystallization behaviour of a number of these glasses has been examined using differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and electron microscopy. Various crystal phases have been identified, including cristobalite, quartz, tridymite and
0 Li2ZnSiO4. In addition, most of the glass-ceramics also contain an unidentified phase which may be related to the-series of lithium zinc silicates. Heat-treatment schedules have been derived on the basis of these results in order to produce a number of glass-ceramic materials. The resultant thermal expansion characteristics of the glass-ceramics have been monitored using dilatometry, and expansions in the range 12.3 to 17.1×10–6° C–1 (20 to 460° C), have been obtained, depending on the precise glass composition and heat-treatment schedule employed.
