An attempt has been made to assess the output of progesterone in mice by measuring the concentration of pregnanediol-3 alpha-glucuronide (PdGl in serial samples of unextracted urine. Longitudinal studies with 95 animals have shown that sufficient urine (greater than 40 microliter) can be obtained from individual animals (80% success rate) without stress every day or at intervals of 2 h. The sc administration of 50 microgram progesterone in lauric acid ethyl ester resulted in a 9-fold increase in the concentration of urinary PdGl (within 4 h) and a significantly elevated output for the next 26 h. During the induction of superovulation with PMS and hCG, the values of PdGl increased significantly (P less than 0.0005; by Student's t test) from 2.08 +/- 0.97 to 3.99 +/- 2.55 ng/ml (mean +/- SD) at the time of corpus luteum formation. There was a good correlation (r = 0.84; n = 154) between the values expressed as nanograms per ml urine and nanograms per mg creatinine. The results demonstrate that the concentration of PdGl in serial samples of urine may be used as an index of gonadal function in female mice. 相似文献

Halide perovskites are emerging as valid alternatives to conventional photovoltaic active materials owing to their low cost and high device performances. This material family also shows exceptional tunability of properties by varying chemical components, crystal structure, and dimensionality, providing a unique set of building blocks for new structures. Here, highly stable self‐assembled lead–tin perovskite heterostructures formed between low‐bandgap 3D and higher‐bandgap 2D components are demonstrated. A combination of surface‐sensitive X‐ray diffraction, spatially resolved photoluminescence, and electron microscopy measurements is used to reveal that microstructural heterojunctions form between high‐bandgap 2D surface crystallites and lower‐bandgap 3D domains. Furthermore, in situ X‐ray diffraction measurements are used during film formation to show that an ammonium thiocyanate additive delays formation of the 3D component and thus provides a tunable lever to substantially increase the fraction of 2D surface crystallites. These novel heterostructures will find use in bottom cells for stable tandem photovoltaics with a surface 2D layer passivating the 3D material, or in energy‐transfer devices requiring controlled energy flow from localized surface crystallites to the bulk. 相似文献

Tissue angiotensin II (AngII) is increased in the infarcted rat heart, where it may have autocrine or paracrine properties that influence cellular protein synthesis and growth and therefore tissue repair. It was our hypothesis that treatment with an AT1 receptor antagonist would attenuate fibrous tissue formation after myocardial infarction (MI). To investigate a role for local AngII in the regulation of connective tissue formation during early and late wound healing that follows MI, this study was undertaken. Animals were randomized into two groups in which rats were or were not treated with the AT1 receptor antagonist losartan (10 mg x kg(-1) daily gavage). At 1 and 4 weeks after experimental MI was induced by coronary artery ligation, rat hearts were examined. Infarct size, infarct area, and collagen volume fraction at the site of infarction and in noninfarcted myocardium were determined by picrosirius red staining with videodensitometry. Quantitative in vitro autoradiography was used to detect AngII receptor binding density ((125)I-(Sar1,Ile8)AngII). Compared with an untreated MI control group, in losartan-treated rats we found (1) infarct size was comparable in both groups at weeks 1 and 4, (2) infarct area was comparable between groups at week 1 but was significantly reduced (p < 0.05) at week 4 in losartan-treated rats, (3) a detectable reduction in collagen volume fraction at the site of MI was not found at week 1 but was reduced (p < 0.05) at remote sites at week 4, (4) AngII receptor binding density was reduced (p < 0.05) by 50% at the site of MI at both weeks 1 and 4 in keeping with delivery of losartan to this site of injury. Thus AT1 receptor antagonism appears to influence late phase wound healing at and remote to the site of MI and suggests an association between AngII and the fibrogenic response that appears in the injured rat heart. Although still speculative, an attenuation in fibrosis after MI may account for less ventricular dysfunction and geometric remodeling of right and left ventricles and ventricular arrhythmias that have been observed in such rats treated with angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor or AT1 receptor antagonist. 相似文献
