In a prospective study of 46 patients with suspected pancreatic disease the provisional diagnoses arrived at independently by isotope scanning (IS), ultrasonography (USS) and computed tomography (CT) have been compared. In the control group, IS and CT were associated with a higher false positive rate than USS; The isotope scan was abnormal in most patients with proven chronic pancreatitis and cancer. The results from USS and CT were similar when structural changes were present. USS was superior in diagnosing pancreatic carcinoma and was a convenient means to follow the progression of acute pancreatitis to final resolution or the development of a pseudocyst. CT proved especially useful in accurately delineating cysts, pseudocysts and calculi prior to planning surgery and in assessing disease in contiguous viscera.  相似文献

Herpes simplex encephalitis in a 21-year-old man presented as a flu-like illness, followed by inappropriate behaviour, drowsiness and focal neurologic signs. Investigations indicated a lesion in the right temporal lobe. The diagnosis was confirmed by isolation of the virus from a cerebral biopsy. Pronounced clinical improvement was noted when cytosine arabinoside therapy was started in the postoperative period. This report supports the observation by some authors that cytosine arabinoside may be of value in the treatment of herpes simplex encephalitis.  相似文献

The mechanism of hydroxy fatty acid-induced secretion was investigated in perfused hamster small intestine in vivo. Sodium ricinoleate at an 8-mM concentration resulted in not only secretion of water and sodium, but an increase in intestinal clearance of inulin and a 16,000 mol wt dextran as well. A concentration of ricinoleate (2 mM) which did not affect water transport, however, did not alter intestinal permeability. Ricinoleate-induced intestinal secretion was also accompanied by increased mucosal cell exfoliation as measured by the appearance of DNA in the perfusate and by apparent injury to epithelial cell membranes as judged by measurement of sucrase activity and phospholipid in cell-free aliquots of luminal fluid. Light and electron microscopic studies demonstrated substantial mucosal architectural changes with 8 mM ricinoleate with villus shortening and injury to epithelial cells at the villus tips. In contrast, cholera enterotoxin caused marked secretion of sodium and water, presumably by a cyclic AMP mechanism, but did not alter inulin clearance or enhance DNA or sucrase appearance in the lumen. These studies suggest that at least a component of ricinoleate-induced intestinal secretion is related to structural alterations of the mucosa.  相似文献

To gain insight into how the pressure drop in monolithic silica columns is determined by the microscopic details of the pore structure, a series of well-validated computational fluid dynamics simulations has been performed on a simplified model structure, the so-called tetrahedral skeleton column. From these simulations, a direct correlation between the pressure drop and two main structural properties (skeleton thickness and column porosity) of the monolithic skeleton could be established. The correlation shows good agreement with the experimental pressure-drop data available from the literature on silica monoliths, especially when a correction for the flow-through pore size heterogeneity is made. The established correlation also yields a much more accurate representation of the relation between the flow resistance and the bed porosity than does the Kozeny-Carman model, making it much better suited for porosity optimization calculations.  相似文献

Diamond is a unique semiconductor for the fabrication of electronic and opto-electronic devices because of its exceptional physical and chemical properties. However, a serious obstacle to the realization of diamond-based devices is the lack of n-type diamond with satisfactory electrical properties. Here we show that high-conductivity n-type diamond can be achieved by deuteration of particularly selected homo-epitaxially grown (100) boron-doped diamond layers. Deuterium diffusion through the entire boron-doped layer leads to the passivation of the boron acceptors and to the conversion from highly p-type to n-type conductivity due to the formation of shallow donors with ionization energy of 0.23 eV. Electrical conductivities as high as 2omega(-1) x cm(-1) with electron mobilities of the order of a few hundred cm2 x V(-1) x s(-1) are measured at 300 K for samples with electron concentrations of several 10(16) x cm(-3). The formation and break-up of deuterium-related complexes, due to some excess deuterium in the deuterated layer, seem to be responsible for the reversible p- to n-type conversion. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time such an effect has been observed in an elemental semiconductor.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that the capacitance–voltage linearity of MIM structures can be enhanced using SrTiO3 (STO)/Y2O3 dielectric bilayers. The C(V) linearity is significantly improved by combining two dielectric materials with opposite permittivity-voltage responses. Three STO/Y2O3 stacks with different thicknesses were realized and compared to a 20 nm STO single layer structure. We observed that an increase in the Y2O3 thickness leads to an improvement in the voltage linearity, while maintaining an overall capacitance density greater than 10 fF/μm2.  相似文献
